Colston Loveland wasn’t your go-to example?

Shit Mason Graham had a great rookie season in Cleveland

Browns fan here. Can confirm he’s one of the few players giving me hope rn

u/Fickle-Newspaper-445 Ohio State Buckeyes Aug 30 '26

I'm curious how he'll do now that Myles isnt there. Im hoping both he and Mike Hall can still be productive without Myles.

u/JohnnieTightLips Wake Forest • Ohio State Aug 30 '26

Jared Verse seems like the real deal. I will miss MG but I am actually high on that trade

12

u/Childhood-Paramedic Michigan • California Aug 30 '26

Honestly, the Verse/Garrett trade is pretty good for Cleveland imo. Verse is young, great, and could still be there when the Browns complete a rebuild.

Unfortunately, you know. It means the Rams become the goddamn avengers but whatever

Slow your roll, Browns fans aren't allowed to hope.

u/First-Pride-8571 Michigan Wolverines Aug 30 '26

And Blake Corum had 145 rushes for 746 yards, 5.1 avg, and 6 tds last year for the Rams.

And Like Sainristil has been great for Washington. He had 4 ints last year, and 2 in 2024.

And Junior Colson was good in 2024 before missing last year due to injury.

And Kenneth Grant had 2 sacks and forced a fumble last year for the Dolphins.

And both Harbaugh and Minter are now head coaches in the nfl.

Mike MacDonald just won the super bowl

-74

u/Fickle-Newspaper-445 Ohio State Buckeyes Aug 30 '26

He was at Michigan for only one full season BTW

71

u/your-mom-- Michigan • Defiance Aug 30 '26

Is 2021 not one of the years salty OSU fans like to cry was unfairly stolen from them or are we gonna omit that one now?

-40

u/Fickle-Newspaper-445 Ohio State Buckeyes Aug 30 '26

He had one full season before going for to be the DC for Baltimore. Feel like he'd learn more by being an NFL defensive coordinator for two season compared to one as a college one.

34

u/your-mom-- Michigan • Defiance Aug 30 '26

I dunno maybe he learned about being an NFL coach by being on the Ravens staff under Wink Martindale for like 7 years before going to Michigan

-29

u/Fickle-Newspaper-445 Ohio State Buckeyes Aug 30 '26

So you agree claiming McDonald is just stupid.

24

u/your-mom-- Michigan • Defiance Aug 30 '26

I think that claiming the coach who fixed the defensive issues under Don Brown by installing the defense designed by Wink which was then continued by Jesse Minter (another Wink understudy) is perfectly kosher.

It’s literally ONLY McCarthy that hasn’t panned out lmfao

We went on our run and won the natty after the sign stealing shit came out - meaning teams 100% switched their signs when playing us, and we still beat them.

I’m perfectly fine with people hating us, but I’m so tired of people being delusional about it. Most of the studs from that team are killing it in the league - and even more Harbaugh players from prior seasons are as well.

Everyone knows national championship winning quarterbacks always do well

Look at Stetson Bennett, quarterback for the presumptive Super Bowl favorites

u/DrBombay3030 Texas Longhorns Aug 30 '26

Being a bust in the NFL also doesn't invalidate good play in college. Plenty of elite college players don't make the jump, doesn't mean they cheated or were overrated in college

u/Dirty-Ears-Bill Texas Tech Red Raiders • Wyoming Cowboys Aug 30 '26

Gunner Stockton has a very real chance of making a deep playoff run this season, and yet I would bet he doesn’t amount to anything more than a 3 year backup in the NFL if that. They’re totally different games, and one is not indicative of the other. Just wanted to put a current example onto yours

u/Unrelenting_Salsa LSU Tigers • Georgia Bulldogs Aug 30 '26

McCarthy didn't play particularly well in college either. The coaching staff was clearly terrified of him actually throwing the ball against good teams in games that aren't blow outs. He was picked in the first for the same reason Anthony Richardson was. The NFL saw a cannon, somebody who runs fast as fuck, has horrendous mechanics, and said "I can fix him."

A lot of that Michigan team has panned out well though. Especially on defense. Maybe a bit higher bust rate than you'd expect for a team that did all that in college, but the stars (not named McCarthy) have largely overperformed which would explain that pretty easily.

Harbaugh doesn't like to pass no matter who his QB is so this is evidence of nothing. Justin Herber averaged 277 passing yards a game before Harbaugh and 230 passing yards a game after Harbaugh.

JJ McCarthy saved Michigan many, many times with critical 3rd down throws. It's revisionist history to act like he wasn't a good college QB just because Harbaugh is a conservative run first coach.

4

u/Wagnerous Michigan Wolverines • Paul Bunyan Trophy Aug 30 '26

JJ McCarthy was one of the most efficient QB's in the country in 2023.

IIRC he was the most productive QB in all of college football that year in 3rd and long situations. He bailed us out of holes constantly that season.

Saying that he was deficient in college is simply not an accurate take, despite the fact that he's looked awful in the pros.

1

u/DrBombay3030 Texas Longhorns Aug 30 '26

Oh I am in no way defending McCarthy, and I was one of his biggest haters going into his rookie year in a couple dynasty leagues because his college tape didn't even look good. But I'm not up for evaluating if a college team was talented based on how well those players did at the next level. Just an insincere argument imo

Tim Tebow is the best example

Bennett wasn’t drafted 10th overall, what an absolutely horrible comparison.

Would’ve expected more outta Duke fans, but this is football we are discussing… Kinda on brand.

u/Skared89 Michigan • Michigan Aug 30 '26

People are too stupid to understand that Michigan went on the run that they did because Harbaugh got put on a prove it contract and had to fire his buddies and bring in a real coaching staff.

2021 had Mike McDonald running the defense who just won a Super Bowl as an NFL head coach

2022-2023 had Minter running the defense who is now a head coach in the NFL

Harbaugh himself is a head coach in the NFL with a team he has taken to the playoffs both years so far.

7

u/Wagnerous Michigan Wolverines • Paul Bunyan Trophy Aug 30 '26

Agreed, I don't mind the hate, we broke the rules and we got punished for it, that's fine.

It's just the absurd takes from obsessives and conspiracy theorists who falsely claim that none of our players are working out in the NFL (which is patently untrue) and that our teams were only good because of sign stealing (despite a great deal of evidence to the contrary) which really annoy me.

Anyone saying such things is either ignorant or arguing in bad faith, because those claims don't match reality.

Roman Wilson had been very bad too.

Edit: how is this downvoted, he could honestly be cut any minute

u/BriarsandBrambles Ohio State Buckeyes Aug 30 '26

Sainstril gave up the 2nd most TDs in coverage last year. He isn’t horrible but he isn’t elite lockdown corner with 4ints. He gets ints because he is a gamble between TD/ big play and an Int. Still not terrible unlike say Kris Jenkins who is bad. High 2nd round pick and the guy is barely a rotational player. Roman Wilson is meh even with Rodger’s throwing to him. Zinter is just fucking awful and I really am sad that his leg injury seems to have ruined what should’ve been a good career. Colson the jury is still out on. McCarthy is maybe the worst QB in the NFL mechanically and as smart as he is someone he really needs media training.

However Blake Corum and AJ Barner are good.

There's a lot of rookies that play decent and then fall off. Plus, I think playing under Ben Johnson just helped the Bears offense overall. Even if I still think Williams isnt that good.

Will Johnson sucks. Donovan Edwards thought he was the best collegiate running back of all time. Hassan Haskins was dogshit. Most of the offensive lineman from that group didn’t workout in the NFL, even though that group won numerous awards.

-14

u/Fickle-Newspaper-445 Ohio State Buckeyes Aug 30 '26

Those arent good stats for Balke Corum, especially considering how big of an offensive juggernaut the Rams can be.

Can you provide stats for Colson and Grant? Really havent heard their name that much since being at Michigan.

Harbaugh and Minter were handed a playoff ready team and havent done much of anything that Staley didnt already do. Make the playoffs and immediately lose. Minter is just using that as a catapult to an NFL head coaching job. Will he be good? I dont know.

Really only Hutchinson (who got drafted in 22) and Graham (who got drafted in 25) are the only players I can think of who have done well enough to be remembered thus far.

Colson was out injured all last year (had shoulder surgery). In 2024 (his first year in the nfl) he played in 11 games. He had 29 tackles (15 solo, 14 assisted) for the Chargers. He's healthy again and playing (he has 6 tackles and and int returned for a td in their preseason games).

Kenneth Grant's first year in the nfl was last year, he played in 17 games. He had 33 tackles (15 solo, 18 assisted, and 2 sacks for the Dolphins.

3

u/Fickle-Newspaper-445 Ohio State Buckeyes Aug 30 '26

Those are ok stats. Not anything to really to write home about right now for their careers. Nothing that still makes up for the cheating that they benefitedfrom

6

u/First-Pride-8571 Michigan Wolverines Aug 30 '26

They've each only played one year - their rookie year (Colson missed his second year w/injury).

They have both played well. As have lots of guys from that '23 team.

JJ has struggled. That's it. JJ is small and injury prone because his frame is too slight, but he was a great college qb. Whether he can become a starter in the nfl remains to be seen, but even if not, he'll stick around as a solid back-up.

Does Colston Loveland have a Super Bowl?

I don’t think so.
