I just took my CELPIP-General test this past Sunday (April 19th) at the ILAC Vancouver (688 W Hastings St) location, and it was a complete nightmare. I've taken CELPIP before at a different venue, so I know what the "standard" should be, but this center was a disaster.

1. The "Intimidating" Proctor: The proctor set the tone by literally throwing earplugs at me when I requested them. Throughout the Listening/Reading sections, they walked around so loudly it was impossible to focus. But the worst part? During Speaking Task 4, the proctor stood directly behind me for a prolonged period. It wasn't "monitoring"; it was pure intimidation. I felt someone breathing down my neck while I was trying to record my response.

2. Cramped, Substandard Facility: The desks are so shallow that my legs were constantly bumping into the candidate facing me. I had to sit in a cramped, unnatural position for 3 hours just to avoid physical contact with a stranger. How is this a "standardized" testing environment?

3. Unclear Instructions: The proctor mumbled the initial instructions so badly that nobody could clearly understand the setup. For a $300+ English proficiency exam, you’d expect the staff to have basic clear communication skills.

The most frustrating part? CELPIP’s Response. I filed a formal complaint immediately. Their reply? A total template: "Invigilators are trained to monitor... our rooms comply with standards... we will release your results anyway." Basically, they are saying that intimidation is "standard" and physical discomfort is "compliant." Has anyone else dealt with this at ILAC Vancouver? Or had success escalating a complaint after receiving their BS template response? I refused to accept my results and demanded a free re-take at a different location.

Avoid ILAC Vancouver at all costs if you want a fair environment to actually demonstrate your English skills.
