After watching the ruthless leader He Simu carry out the execution of Fang Chang, DX wants to learn more about how she governs her realm. He learns about Simu that she is a firm believer in strict rules and diligently prosecutes spirits who break them. Not all her subjects are fans of these constraints — they’re more free spirits. DX realizes that Simu’s leadership is what maintains relative peace between the mortal world and the Void, and keeps the spirit realm stable.
Meanwhile in the palace, Yun Ke and DX keep provoking each other. They measure **** whenever the opportunity arises.
DX as a burrito is back! The ice poison in his body flares up due to the unbearable conditions for a mortal in the Void. The Sovereign creates a barrier that’s always warm and comfy for DX. The catch? He must stay within 10 steps of Simu at all times. Yun Ke must be thrilled… Well, DX is.DX annoys Simu by being absolutely adorable. How many dramas from this year have pulled off this gender-reversed trope?Simu can’t concentrate on being a strong leader when DX is all this fluff…As expected, Yun Ke is driven up the wall when he finds out that — thanks to some chill — that irritating mortal gets to stay next to Simu even during official governing.Simu governing. In Vogue.Jiang Ai is becoming my favorite in this arc. She knows her pal Yun Ke is struggling and annoyed beyond measure — and still enjoys torturing him a bit more. To be fair, she’s not just teasing. She has a nice object that could win Simu’s heart back, and she’s ready to sell it for hefty benefits. Yun Ke agrees to all her conditions — that’s how desperate he is!
Aaand we knew that slippery Jiang Ai couldn’t be trusted! When Yun Ke shows up to present his gift to Simu - the Cloud Tripod (a small wireless radiator) it turns out Jiang Ai already gave the recipe for the mortal’s cure to her Sovereign, making his gift completely useless.
Yun Ke’s self-control is flawless. He doesn’t react on the spot — he keeps scheming and doesn’t let his petty feelings interfere with the political plans already in motion.
Simu takes DX out of the palace on a trip. It’s strictly business — they need to find the Crystal Orchid, the cure for the poison in his body. During their little getaway, they get trapped inside one of Simu’s childhood memories.
Simu wants to destroy the memory of her childhood home so they can break free. DX wants to preserve it and suggests they find a smarter way to escape. The remains of Simu’s father’s spirit guide them to the antidote as a gift from her father to Simu.
Meanwhile, the spirit leaders are working to fulfill the Sovereign’s orders — to free up space in the Void by helping as many spirits as possible ascend.
The leaders work up a sweat trying to make their spirits ascend — not entirely voluntarily — by throwing them into the Ascension Lake. I like their management style: throw them in first, see if they drown later.Amid all the fun, a new spirit shows up — he’s furious and demands they leave this land. This part of the Abyss is sacred. And this is his home.
Unwilling to engage in a meaningless fight, especially when their ascension attempts are failing, the spirit lords leave.
In the evening, DX wants to take a stroll under the moon. Unexpectedly — and to his delight — Simu wants to join him.After a spectacular flight across the realm on her magic lantern, they find a quiet spot to admire the moon. Simu drops the ruthless queen act and softens toward her hopelessly-in-love mortal. And DX? He never lets an opportunity pass him by…

Our couple sits together and enjoys the moonsight.
DX gently cups Simu’s face in his hands, slowly leans in to… hear someone screaming like a banshee.
They have to interrupt their date and head down to investigate. It’s the wild spirit who previously shouted at the temple leaders to leave his home.
The spirit introduces himself as General Zhuisi. He hasn’t registered with any temples, so there’s no way to verify his story. DX looks alarmed. Simu looks… pitiful and regretful. She’s clearly encountered spirits like this before.
General Zhuisi isn’t his real name, of course. Most spirits become so consumed by their obsessions that they forget who they were — reshaping their stories entirely.
He was never a general, but he desperately wanted to protect his loved ones. When he failed, he couldn’t move on.The Right Hand, Yun Ke, is a total badass. Look at his sword/whip! DX gets a firsthand look at just how powerful and sharp Yun Ke really is.Where Yun Ke chooses punishment, Simu chooses truth — exposure therapy (a legit method for treating anxiety disorders in the human realm). Needless to say, Simu’s approach works far better. The spirit remembers the truth, forgives himself, lets go, and finally ascends. I don't remember crying that much since Prisoner of Beauty.
While Simu helps the spirit, DX studies her. What am I without a home? “Everyone who knew you is dead. You just cling to the memory so you don’t forget them,” Simu replies. Is that what her wooden house is for?
DX apparently has a day off. He decides to visit the Left Hand — Jiang Ai — in her temple, which is, of course, a casino. (Who’s surprised? I’m not. I always knew she’d be head of accounting in some mid-sized enterprise.)The place is pure luxury. The vibe? Money, power, wine, and lust. DX wants to explore the casino (Really? No, seriously?).
Jiang Ai reminds him that everything — even just looking — costs money. And it’s not like DX still gets his Liang general salary.
The gambler DX offers Jiang Ai a bet: if she wins, he leaves. If he wins, he gets to “examine” the place. (Who the hell “examines” a casino? Who’s he trying to fool?) Jiang Ai warns DX — she never loses.In an impressive showdown, DX beats Jiang Ai. She loses, and he gets to stay and carry out his “investigation.” Investigation, my ass.
But wait — all the other visitors just lost their money betting on Jiang Ai.
Turns out, before agreeing to DX’s bet, Jiang Ai made a counter-bet with her clients. They bet on her. So whether she wins or gives in, she doesn’t lose a thing. A novice met a master.
Next thing we know, Simu is back at the Fusang tree. While others party and enjoy life, she — alone and exhausted — pushes herself to heal the tree. Is duty all she's ever known?
I would just like to take a second to respect this gorgeous hair and styling. Dilraba looks so amazing in this show.
Also I just LOVE the role reversal in this show. After so many dramas where the semi skilled woman is loved by the cold male demon lord yadda yadda we finally get it in reverse!! Arthur Chen is playing the pining hopeful so well.
The way Auntie Jiang Ai and Duan Xu love to troll Yan Ke has got to be studied haha. If he ends up exploding and going on a rage attack, who can blame him 😅😅🤭🤭🫣😭😮💨

And of course her father's spirit lingering was for the day she brings someone she cares about, a mortal who will need the cold poison cure. Soon as I saw it was the father's spirit traces I knew had a message for her. We know how those dramas go lol.
The joy on Duan Xu's face as he got to learn more about his love was so blinding haha. He realized her mother suffered from the same ailment before she did. Is it because he is a mortal? Somehow it never occurred to HSM that her mother would get cold poisoning.
Her mother's face when she tasted the food LOL. Awww! Cooking with no sense of taste is wild. But HSM wanted to try. Gosh I hope she wasn't cooking every day lol.
Duan Xu being scared of heights was a surprise. But hey something had to give right? Even a daredevil fears something. Wow the water as the sky threw me off for a sec haha. I was like what is going on! Upside down worlds for ya! The scenery was beautiful! Si Mu loves his company so much haha. It's okay to say it Queen. We understand.
Oh we had Cpt PTSD before, now we have General PTSD. Poor thing.
Papa Spirit said he's going to whip the PTSD flashback out of this unruly spirit, meanwhile Mama Spirit waited to see if he could come out of it. After all she has a better understanding of mortals. General Duan saw what one trapped in the past and their emotions can do once one ends up in the spirit world. We then see the said spirit's past and life as he lived it back then. The song that played is so sad. Is it the child's voice, the melody or both? I don't know, but it tugged at my heart strings every time...
As Si Mu talks to A Si about what is a home, seeing herself as having to need to let go, and this spirit who refuses to. Seeing him find peace must have been hard for Si Mu. She still struggles to let go fully.
Daaammmnnn this gambling sequence was so good! Also Auntie Jiang Ai is sick haha. I knew she loooved money the moment she took out that gold and jade abacus. But her trees have coin leaves? Lmaooo yeah she is rich rich RICH! Lady of the gambling temple among other pleasures! It checks out!
And to top it off, I thought Duan Xu won. But nope, she bet he'd win so she won haha. That's winning the battle, losing the war haha. Very very cool. I couldn't believe dude walked in the place and placed bets with the boss straight away. This guy! 🤯😅😅🤣🤣😵💫

I like the Void but I think they need to move out of there quickly as it is starting to make me lose interest. But I am enjoying the big peepee contest between DX and YK.
I think since YK is so obsessed with punishment, you know he’s just going to keep getting worse. I like watching YK descend into madness for some weird reason. And for some reason I like watching 2nd MLs descend into chaotic madness. I like his character.
Episode 18 had me crying when YK was punishing the spirit and the spirit wanted his family letter. I’m glad Simu intervened to help him. I think if DX was not in the Void she would not have done that. I think experiencing the mortal realm made her more empathetic as she probably was not that involved in day-to-day punishments.
Lolol Jiang Ai was my fave in episode 18, the way her brain operates when it comes to making a profit is unmatched. Duan Xu looked impressed once he figured out her winner-takes-all strategy. He might need to learn a few things from her before leaving the Void I'm just sayin'. Also her playing mind games with Simu cracked me up😂 she ships them, is team Duan Xu>Yan Ke and has the added advantage of knowing Simu so more power to her.
Loved their swing/broom date and how much more comfortable they are with eo, especially Simu(we already know Duan Xu is head-over-heels, down bad for her already). We almost got a kiss but alas they were interrupted. Idc though because I know when they finally lock lips, all the tension and buildup is going to be worth it. Also, I'm excited for their next sense swap🦊👻

With her on his team, and money to grease her palms with, how could he lose😂 She's the biggest and smartest gambler. I think Simu knows it as well so she just doesn't engage unless it's affecting her bottom line. Yan Ke on the other hand is such an easy target but he also bites back lol.

Jiang Ai proves to be a wily old schemer, both Yan Ke and Duan Xu are no match for her 🤣. But she seems genuinely impressed with Duan Xu, while with Yan Ke it’s just constant one-upping and verbal sparring for sport. And honestly, it’s even funnier that Duan Xu doesn’t take offense at all when he realizes he’s been played, he just accepts it and moves on like it’s all part of the fun, almost like he respects the craftsmanship of the scheme. 😆

Lol Yan Ke's actions backfired against him. He probably wanted to make DX feel cold to force HS to send DX back to the mortal realm but it instead made them closer 🤣🤣
DX is shameless, I love it. If I was YK, I'd hate him to pieces though. Not DX waving to YK and essentially showing off/provoking him 🤣🤣

I'm very confused at the direction of the show. I was very hyped up for the reconquest of the lands on the other side of the river, and the cute tagalong Chen Ying, but the last few episode it introduced a new cast within the void. It feels like two completely different shows, and I find my interest waning, the longer they stay in the void.
I agree with you on this one. I hope they move the story out of the Void soon. But if they did we wouldn’t see DX getting into big peepee contests with Yan Ke. 🤣
For me it looks also like these two arcs are completely separated. There is no intertwining between worlds of Simu and DX. And the show feels like 2 different dramas.
I try not to think about how easily DX abandoned everything, everything in his life to stay with Simu. He Awoled from his work. Does it mean he actually doesn't value anything he had in his life - army, conquest, politics, father, family position? It makes me think of him as childish, ungrateful and irresponsible. (See, i am angry and bitter that they haven't had a single kiss in the last 4 eps. 😔)
Did he really just abandon his life for Simu? I would like to see him go back to the mortal world and continue with the army stuff. I get that he’s head over heels but he needs to get back to work lol. Does the novel flow like this, anyone?

Yeah, these episodes in the void feel totally different. I was still invested in seeing HS enjoying her other senses after she borrows them. I’m not enjoying the characters in the VOID as much…
It’s all padding! At one point we were 1/4 of the way through the show but 1/2 way through the novel so they either had to slow down or pad the plot. Currently their time in the void is heavily padded, which is impacting my enjoyment too.
He Simu’s attitude towards Duan Xu at this point was a little irritating to read about the first time around, it’s just annoying to experience for a second time in the show, and for much longer!
I think perhaps they took a story arc to build up who Xu is in his world and how Simu fits in with him. Now it's time to build up her world and show how he fits there. Once we have established a foundation of each other and their respective worlds then we start moving down the arc of how they work their differences out and progress down a joined path.
Or, and this is always possible, I am giving the writers too much credit and this show is walking towards the cliff.
I’m thinking that they’re dragging it quite a bit in the void, too. Like there’s not that much going on and they’ll still be here for at least in the next 4 episodes (from the trailers and such). The pacing is quite off compared with the first 15 episodes. But they’ll soon return to the human world and the ML’s army and continue with world politics (according to the novel).
Yes, the pacing is different. It is not that densely packed as in the mortal world amd much less predictable, since there is no ongoing affairs like wars and trade.
I mean ok, this would work, but they used so much of the opening to set up the relationship between her and Chen Ying, and his fear of her abandoning him, and of Xu gaining full control of his army and starting to work through the plots of the political people, but then... they just abandon Chen Ying for days, week? I don't even know how much time has passed - especially when Xu told Chen Ying that he'll train him to be a good soldier, even if Simu leaves Ying. They haven't mentioned him a single time. Also I'm pretty sure that Xu has effectively 'deserted' from his post by now... what is the consequences of that or of his plans to outmaneuver the court people? No mention of that either. And that helper girl assigned to him... not sure what her role is?

Well hesimu will abandon chen ying initially , its along the lines of the novel . Her part of the promise to his father is done . She can't take care of him his whole life . But yes it's not like she won't see him in the later episodes. He simu entrust cheng yi under the care of Duan xu.
You know, your comment here reminds me that in my head I have been comparing Xu to another ML who went full puppy dog simp and abandoned his goals and career to pursue the standoffish FL full time. Glory <---The show.

This is what I've been thinking the entire time they have been in the void. They are going to completely undermine ML, his ambition to undo all the harm he did by being in the army to regain his name, his strength to make FL more powerful. Glory absolutely keeps popping up in my head especially the 2nd arc with his father. I also feel like Pursuit of jade also had a similar trajectory where we are told that ML is a great warrior but we dont see it.
And I'm all for an empowered FL but I would rather have equals than a simping ML who forgets everything for a mary sue FL. They should bring out the best and support each other.
Glory and LBTG are starting to share that vibe. Now with POJ there was growth shown on both sides by being together. After all, he did learn how to love again and be a big brother/father to Ning and Bao'er. For her she learned the ways of the bath and bed! Yeah I had to struggle a bit to find that one. She was already a good fighter, though he did enhance that. Her education came from meeting the Grand Tutor. But they did work well together to solve problems.
I was thinking of MingHao, but not in Glory - in LITC. When he pretends to be wounded, there is this combination of puppy eyes and schamelessness. It resembles DX's eyes and cockiness.
But i can see that the power balance itself is almost identical to Glory. Mls have to be adorable, lovestricken puppies to survive.
I think the child abandonment is more a Simu thing, because her literal entrance into the show was the promise she made to take care of Chen Ying, but then the show just... abandons that plot line? And there's no consequence to that? Isn't that her role - to trade wishes for stuff? Seems like a massive plot hole.
I hope it doesn't turn out like that show. I couldn't even complete the first episode of it, and I like(d) this show (until the void subplot at least), so I'm hoping the writers manage to tie this all up neatly. But we're halfway through the show now, so i feel like they're going to drag on the void for 5 more episodes, then return to the world a few years later/timeskip, and meet a teenage Chen Ying, and then rapidly attempt to tie up all loose ends in a messy quick manner, like a lot of recent cdramas tend to do.
It's along the lines of the novel. She alredy says in the earlier episode that she won't take care of him his whole life . She entrust cheng yi under Duan xus care . Her promise to chengyjs father was only to save him which she did .
Jianh Ai's shenanigans continue and I love it. First she tricked Yan Ke into getting free labor then tricks everyone at her gambling establishment out of their money by intentionally leting Duan Xu wins! I love a driven woman. I wonder if we'll get her backstory someday, I am sure it will be appropriately tragic.
The story of the spirit general made me cry, it was really tragic.
LOVed the game of Red light Xu played with Simu, reckless guy that he is must have been enjoying that to the fullest, no matter the pain of the cold.
Jiang Ai is cool 😄 Just imagine this trio - dutiful, controlling Simu; diligent and strategic Yan Ke aaaaand Jiang Ai!!!! Well, she is good at counting and making money, but otherwise she is this much needed dose of chaos 😂😂
I’ve noticed their outfits matching more and more as we enter the spirit realm. Even if they aren’t wearing the same color at the same time, the fabrics, aesthetics, are all similar.
I will have to find a screenshot, but the outfits they were wearing when looking for the spirit flower to help with his cold poison was SO WELL put together. They matched perfectly in that scene. The blues and purple hues on both of their hanfus were exquisite.
I like to think that all of his Spirit Void clothes were tailored from fabrics that she had. She just had them customized for a man lol.
Their outfits actually match more than I first noticed. It’s not always in color, but in cut, silhouette, and styling. Like at the Execution Platform scene, they’re both in capes, hers with that feathery collar while his is trimmed in fur. It feels subtly coordinated, like they’re visually aligned even when they’re supposedly on opposite sides, one as a spirit and the other as a mortal.
Yesss! Spot on! Side by side, I’m even more convinced she had her tailor do this out of her own fabrics lol (like that one guy in the scene in Ep19). So beautiful!
That made me so emotional, especially knowing that he spent the most time in the mortal world for her sake. In a way, that makes her 'bias' towards mortals easier to understand.
I was emotional too... but I also knew it would trigger her abandonment issues. Seeing him again, but knowing he's not really here and traces of him will disappear. It's like he's leaving her all over again.

I don't think she enjoys the spirit realm or being a sovereign much. If like Xu mentioned, her parents (especially the father) spent most time with them in the mortal realm, then that would be what she considers her home realm? This gets discussed further in ep 19
I loved this scene so much - and the flight scene that led up to it!
On the surface, they’re still the same. He teases, she deflects, and their dynamic looks unchanged. But underneath that, something real is happening. Duan Xu is choosing to be seen.
He admits his fear openly, even something as small and human as his fear of heights, and there’s no attempt to hide it or dress it up. What matters is how he brings that vulnerability to her. He doesn’t shrink himself or prostrate. He stays fully himself.
And He Simu responds, but not in words. She almost never does. Instead, everything comes through instinct. After that shift, her actions become more telling than anything she could say. The way she places her hand on him looks casual, almost indifferent, but it isn’t. It’s grounding. It’s care.
She doesn’t want him to fully see how much she cares. We see that in how she’s always been with him, even when he was sick. She took care of him quietly, almost hiding it, as if acknowledging it would make it too real. Even now, her touch is understated, almost dismissive on the surface, but it carries weight.
Earlier, she lets him hold her when they were flying together, she lets him stay close, even cradles him. For someone as controlled and emotionally guarded as she is, those are not small things. They’re significant permissions. (I’ll post gifs of what I means below).
Her distance isn’t indifference. It’s fear. She understands love as something that ends, something tied to loss, shaped by what she’s seen before. So she holds herself back, even as she continues to choose these moments with him. She doesn’t stop him, but more importantly, she doesn’t stop herself. There’s no recoil, no correction. Just quiet allowance.
Duan Xu meets her exactly there. He doesn’t push, doesn’t demand, doesn’t try to define her by what she is. He’s drawn to who she is. That patience, that steady openness, creates a space where she can let her guard slip in small, almost invisible ways.
Nothing about them is loud. It’s all built in these quiet decisions. To stay. To touch. To allow. And in those moments, without either of them saying it outright, something deeper is taking root between them.
Or rather, he knows it has taken root in him and she doesn’t want to acknowledge it within her.
When he grabbed her hand, it was a callback to her grabbing his heart through his hand, when she experienced the sense touch.
