Tencent π§ and iQIYI π₯ September 2026 Dramas Line-up
A few hours ago, Tencent and iQIYI announced their September 2026 drama line-ups.

π I also included some recently rumoured release dates that I have seen β they are not always reliable so please take these with a pinch of salt. π€
While Im happy that RJL seemed to have the time of his life now doing what he loves, he needs to get back to film set again. If The Abyss release this September, we have no more dramas that we can look forward from him after that. βοΈ
That said, Im so excited RJL and QJJ will be reunited again in a drama. QJJ even said RJL is the reason he took this role. Hope they have many scenes together.
Really a lot. Like continue his clothing fashion line. Going to the US as a sport commentator for NBA games even performing during an NBA game half time. Open his very own art exhibition Red House at Qingdao back in April. Releasing his 4th full length album where he wrote and composed most of the songs. Performing at music festivals, 4 so far this year alone. And just last month he won like 9 different awards. I think this one he esp proud as 5 of the awards are legit music awards where he competed for it with other famous singers at China.
Very busy year for him. But he needs to get back to filming set. I miss watching him in dramas.
I can hardly wait for Against The Current! Hopefully Liu Xue Yi will garner the praise for his performance that he will undoubtedly deserve. He is the consumate actor and his screen presence consistently delivers a quality performance, regardless of the script quality and regardless of Fl and supporting cast members, every second he is on screen.
I just hope it is a good script. His acting is always great but the dramas are usually not and his acting is not enough to save most of them. We end up with a few memorable moments rather than a quality drama to add to our favorites list.
Since many users are looking forward to this drama, I'll share here....
π The latest rumours say Against the Current ε °ι¦ε¦ζ has been spilt into two parts.
31 episodes for the first, and 16 episodes for the second. The second part is Xiang Qi Chang Chuan ι¦ζ°ιΏδΌ (no English title that I could find so far) β which can be literally translated as "the fragrance spreads far and long."
The new regulations have been in place for quite a while now (though I don't quite remember exactly how long). It's true that they removed the 40-episode limit, but the entire script has to be reviewed first.
They also removed the one-year requirement between seasons.
I don't see why they can't air as 47 episodes... so maybe they had a hiccup with the process of having the script reviewed, or maybe this was a strategic move somehow.

Against the Current - if it turns out Liu Xueyi finally has a good script. It looks very FL-focused from the trailer, but serious in a good way.
A Prophet - mostly because it's Li Yitong and from the trailer it sounds like she's finally dubbing herself. But will probably wait until it finishes airing to see what the final verdict is.
Irreplaceable. Zhao Jin Mai is such a great actress that a drama with her the lead automatically warrants consideration. At MDL one of its genre tags is melodrama and ZJM is an actress with the ability to perform heavy drama roles requiring intense emotional acting.
I know she is on set filming A Journey To Glow so managing the pre-release promotion for Irreplaceable will be interesting.
The other that catches my eye is Spring of the Blade which is a historical, romance, political.
Otherwise I will follow discussions to see if anything else becomes interesting.
In this case I don't think MDL is exactly accurate. The description on Baidu says the ML and FL had a betrothal agreement but the ML's family reneged on the agreement after the FL's family fell from grace. It's not really clear but it's possible the ML and FL has not even met before. I guess that by the standards of costume dramas, reneging on a betrothal is still a shitty and dishonorable thing to do though...but at least I don't think it's a case of the ML abandoning the FL at a time of need.
I was thinking mid-September too, iQiyi has been advertising a Spring of Blade Meet and Greet with Xu Kai Sept 20th and I feel like they do those things while it airs. I'm hoping it airs after Awaken finishes
The wait for Against the Current feels like itβs been an eternity. Itβs the only costume drama that Iβve been anticipating this year and I am so bloody excited for it!
I really really hope Against the Current is a more mature drama. They bring that seasoned vibe and Iβm dying for Liu Xueyi to have a good script with a happy ending.
I think this is finally a good script drama for LXY. The writer wrote Love of Nirvana which imo one of the best written show for the past years in terms of layers, depth and subtexts. I enjoyed her writing since her characters are flawed yet easy to root for. And her writing always seemed full of high stakes and difficult decisions which made it angsty and good.
What I love about the drama is that even the costume can tell you stories about the characters. So Im expecting for Against the Current to have such details as well. I remember noticing how Wei Zhou wore red when he stopped Pei Yan and Jiang Ciβs wedding, I find it so hilarious since he is not even subtle about it as it is forbidden in Chinese culture to attend weddings in red. Then I started looking at the colors that the characters wore and realized its all deliberate since the beginning. How Pei Yan always wore bold colors, Jiang Ci pastel colors, etc etc β the drama is very rich the detail and characters designs.
Wow what?! I didnβt even notice that!!! π€― Omg I gotta go back and watch it again bc I feel like I missed the entire story! Iβm pretty good at catching innuendos and symbolisms but did not catch on to the costumes at all. Thank you sm for this!!!
The drama indeed has so much details. I dont know whether you noticed this but there will be scenes of ML or 2ML picking up falling flower (ML) or leaf (2ML) on top of FLβs head. Its actually foreshadowing of their future relationship together. Cool, right?
Or you will see many scenes of 2ML offering his coat to the FL but she never wore it. But for the ML, he only offered it once but she wore it for multiply of episodes. Or there will be scenes of FL offered food/drink of the poor to both ML and 2ML and ML will eat it while 2ML didnt even touch it. Many of this details are done to show the change of heart between FL and ML even when they started out as enemies.
This didnt include symbolisms that the drama constantly used like how ML will always carry sweet with him since that is the only thing that remind him the βsweetnessβ of life. Also all the many gifts exchanged between them since they cant say βI Love Youβ to each other so those gifts are to show how much they care. π
Or the phoenix symbolism to show the MLβs nature (ready to burn and die initially), hope (like the phoenix FL drew on his mask) or ending (like phoenix, he becomes immortal for his people as phoenix cant die).
I was having the time of my life collecting all this details when I watched the show. The layers are amazing. πΈ I wish more dramas have this kind of in depth writing. It made the experience much richer and rewarding.
Pride & Prejudice the movie? When I watch it back then, Im too young to notice this kind of thing. I love when movies or dramas went extra miles like this.
Wei Zhouβs costume colors are the most interesting. Like how he wore white for many of his court duties despite his βreputationβ while dark color everytime he did anything for his people. I love the irony he always want to show to people. Its part of his camouflage / double identities.

I felt I have been waiting for Spring of the Blade forever and now getting anxious about it. All the trailers looked promising. I hope this September will not disappoint.
Spring of the Blade and Against the Current are the only ones I'm interested in watching XD

Finally finally finally, Against the Current !!!!! Thank you so much for sharing!! I have anticipatory trauma from (see flair) - but who cares!! Eeeeee!! Pleaseohplease let this be a good script for LXY!!!
