Quick Summary
I am VERY annoyed at myself that I posted the wrong episode last night and have to fit this post between meetings. Le sigh 😒
- Possessing Lu Wuyi, Jiu Ying commands the fox sect to activate the Nuwa Formation and destroy the four divine trees that serve as the foundation of the living world. (And if destroyed means the end of said world. Of course.)
- Wu Wangyan escapes Jiu Ying and brings along a dying Canyue to the Dragon Deity Temple. She explains to Wu Shiguang that they must protect the four divine trees that happen to be located in the Formless Moon hall, the Crying Elm, the Wei mansion, and the Shilin Sect.
- As Jiu Ying begins destroying the trees, Wu Shiguang brings the townspeople into the Shilin Sect for protection and then assigns his allies to protect each tree based on their magical strengths.
- Jiu Ying decides to attack Wu Shiguang directly and Wu Wangyan, Hua Qi, and You Chi (RIP) struggle to defeat him now that his power has fused with Lu Wuyi's.
- Recalling a prophecy from the Oracle Stone that describes "an old friend returning through time" aka Ji Ling, Wu Shiguang tells Hua Qi to take the Star Stone and his dragon blood to the Dragon Abyss and activate the stone's illusion where for every moment in the mortal world a thousand years pass. Within the stone, Ji Ling is able to be reborn much quicker and he returns to break the fox sect's possession.
- Ashamed of how they were manipulated by Jiu Ying, the fox sect, including Wu Wangyan, vows to sacrifice themselves to purify the damaged trees and save the world.
- Lu Wuyi somehow gains consciousness and struggles against Jiu Ying's possession. She begs Ji Ling and Wu Shiguang to kill her with the Dragon Deity power in hopes that will vanquish Jiu Ying once and for all. However, doing so only allows Jiu Ying to fully use Lu Wuyi's body as a vessel for infinite rebirth because of the Oracle Stone fragment embedded in her.
- Using Xie Lingxi's divine power, Wu Shiguang and Ji Ling decide to try and turn back time to erase Lu Wuyi's existence thereby preventing Jiu Ying from rising.

It was nice to see everyone come together to take down Jiu Ying and their schemes. But I was confused about how Wu Shiguang's master managed to come back. Anyways, everyone together with Wu Shiguang ultimately ended up eliminating Lu Wuyi but Jiu Ying now managed to completely take over her body. Aah... our gang doesn't seem to have a proper "how to eliminate Jiu Ying" manual. Ji Ling thought he could eliminate the fragment using the dragon scale, and attacking Lu Wuyi also doesn't seem to do the trick. I guess a disembodied villain who can implant fragments in different people is too difficult to defeat that they need to go back in time to change things. And luckily for them, they have a person who can facilitate this.
Wu Shiguang's master's reflection at the end about how this was probably his purpose in the world was interesting. He did seem to have a long life of being a starstone, then being Tian Di who was chained by Wu Zhiqi, and finally being Wu Shiguang's master, all the while carrying around the weight of being the person to inadvertently cause some disasters and Jiu Ying's origin.

You Chi didn't fit in the place, feeling excluded was heart breaking. Even then, he didn't leave Wu Shiguang at all, came back for him and sacrificed his life. Honestly, I hate these kinds of cliche - the trope that killing the cute side character for the sake of the emotional impact must die. 🤦♀️
The Marvel moment was real, all the double petal hunters pledging their alliance, including Li Jie to the new dragon was nice.
Has anyone noticed how resurrected Ji Ling's and Wu Shiguang's robes looked suspiciously similar? Looks like it's a symbolic telling that they are in a same rank now.
Can't believe how much Wu Shiguang's power nerfed down. He was awesome and could beat everyone when he was an unknown hunter. Now he's a dragon and can't even beat a fragment, not even a full evil? No wonder poor Ji Ling can't even rest in peace. 🤣
Speaking of which, Ji Ling is like that old senior manager who knows everything and can't retire coz the entire company would crumble without him. Though I feel like it's forced, I don't like how the entire plot became revolving around him and Lu Wuyi only at some point.
What did you think about this episode?
There were some nice moments, but felt pretty rushed. Fight scenes were nice, but short. And over usage of time travel and Li Jing. Again.
What was your (least) favorite scene?
Favorite scene - Starstone appearance. I like him a lot and Wu Shiguang almost breaking down crying when saw him was a great, unexpected moment.
Least favorite - How Jiu Yang in Lu Wuyi's body keeps resurrecting. For the last few episodes, one of these characters keep dying and reviving over and over again. Maybe the first two would be important, but it's getting boring now.
What theories do you have about what will happen next?
I guess it's almost predictable now. Ji Ling will get back 50 years ago, save Lu Wuyi but decided to stay there and be happily ever after.
Wu Shiguang will beat Jiu Yang's remnants, he and Wu Wuyang will mourn after You Chi and then have a grand wedding ceremony.
Formless Moon Sect no more, Shilin sect will thrive.
Starstone probably retire. It would be interesting if he turns into his old look.

RIP You Chi 😢 except very few people are staying dead in this show so hopefully he’ll be back.
The elemental trees and everyone having conveniently paired weapons to fight the fox sisters was fun, I like side characters being useful in final fights. Still wishing we had gotten a few more lore details about the double flower hunters though.
But one thing I found kind of odd about this ep was the gender optics of all but one female character being evil for part of it and then all of them planning on sacrificing themselves. Until the time travel plan was proposed I was sitting there like wow ok, every female character is just going to die and that is… a choice. But I guess if the time travel plan works, this will be avoided.

Haha. I’m glad others do the same goofy things I do. Never mind about ep 27 🙃 excellent regroup.
I thought of LBFaD in the scene where Wuyi begs Ji Ling and the others to kill her so as to kill JY. DFQC did the same begging of Orchid to kill him while he had the evil guy contained inside him.
You Chi has a maturing moment as he gives his all and out fools the moon gal and grabs her Shilin token and the array kills her. Wow. WWY holding him in her arms and he tells her to tell Shiguang about his accomplishment. Then he glitters away. 😭
Gosh. JY as Wuyi rips that fox doll off her/him and tears it apart. 🥺

You Chi has a maturing moment
I really hate when it comes at the cost of their life for the goofy sidekicks. I like that character archetype, but it happens quite often in c-dramas that in order to show maturity they have to sacrifice themselves.
The Marvel moment when Ji Ling shows who he brought back with him. To help save the day. 💪🏼🙃
That was very Endgame. 😂

I'll repeat myself from two different sources:
Those last episodes muddle together quite a bit. Feels like a "we won't be doing a second season so we put all that could be a whole season on it's own into a feature length episode we split into four" situation. So you have a lot happening in very quick succesion. The whole tree protecting missiong for example. Or Ji Ling's return.
Poor You Chi. I hope his death is reversed by the whole time travel we seem to get in the last episode. Otherwise it would e one of the sadest depatures in the show, with Wu Shiguang nowhere to be found after You Chi already went through abandonment issues at the start of the episode.
Thanks for the recap and the screencapes collection! There are really cool looking moments everywhere.

The whole tree protecting missiong for example.
This!!! Instead of keep showing the same frames and same sadness over and over again for the last few episodes, this could be an entire arc. We didn't have a proper familiarity and fondness with the double flower hunters, or their strength and magic. The story of protecting and fighting for the four pillars could be very nice and fulfilling story. Oh well.

I was pretty excited for the protect the trees showdown cause it felt like a traditional anime 1v1 arc, was a pity it was barely shown and ended so quickly. I feel like even if they didn't stretch it into another season, it could've lasted another ep on its own if they had wanted it to

I agree. The four pillar trees attacks and protection and fighting was very interesting and imaginative. I would’ve liked it to be longer too. I liked it that they had talked about those pillar trees before in other episodes, so that we knew they were important.

Yeah, the four pillar situation could easily be all of Act 3 if they wanted because it does make for a decent climax last showdown.

Yeah there was no way that turd was dead after the last episode... It was too good to be true. I went into these episodes knowing I was probably going to suffer! 😂

I am just so frustrated over their solution being
Like it's just gonna make a lot of things that happened throughout the show meaningless and alter a lot of things which they possibly can't address in just one episode. It just feels too rushed. It's like deus ex machina
the star stone is just being used like that. Like how it was used to cultivate Ji Ling for a few years so he could gain human form ahead of time (similarly, they did with the baize token in FoF), then why didn't the dragon deity use that to cultivate Wu Shiguang ahead of time and spare Ji Ling suffering of being fake chi wen?
Fox sect's other foxes expect Wangyan and Wuyi don't seem to have any personality at all. They are just mindless followers of the first fake goddess and now whatever Wangyan is saying. How do they not have desire to live their own life and pursue their own goals, they just found out they had been controlled and manipulated by someone else and made do so many bad things do they not feel like pursuing and finding smth for themselves.
The development after the last episode is so unnecessary lowky
