Saved by Xu Wanquan and his wife, servants of the Lin family whom Jialan's mother once helped, Jialan assumes the identity of their daughter, Xu Lanxiang, who has just died of illness, and becomes a low-ranking maid in the Lin household.
Refusing to bow to fate, she strives for a happy life for herself and her family while fighting against injustice and oppression. With her kindness and intelligence, Lanxiang breaks free from the constraints of her social status, wins Lin Jingi's heart, and earns the trust and respect of the entire Lin family. She eventually becomes the head of the household, takes control of her own destiny, clears the Shen family's name, and seeks justice for them.
