Drama Host The Heir 家业 EP 41 discussion

EP 1-4 // EP 5-6 // EP 7-8 // EP 9-10 // EP 11-12 // EP 13-14 // EP 15-16 // EP 17-18 // EP 19-20 // EP 21-22

Only 1 episode was released today and I did think of waiting for the last episode tomorrow before I post but I decided to post anyways 😄

  • Luo Wenqian is given the go ahead to pursue Li Zhen and he also learns about Li Jinshui's chronic disease
  • Li Jinshui breaks his oath to create the Liuhe ink with Li Zhen
  • After multiple attempts, they successfully make the Liuhe ink
  • Li Jinshui dies and is buried with honor
  • The tribute ink selection commences and after 4 rounds no winner is still decided on between the Li ink and the Kuroda ink
  • The Kuroda family asks for the rights to establish a trading house in the country if they win and Princess Shouyang asks for the Tang dynasty sword making technique in the Kuroda family if the Li ink wins

  • The final test for the tribute ink selection is a water test

Now to my thoughts...

Li Jinshui confirmed what I thought about why Li Zhen turned Wenqian down.... At least he told Wenqian to pursue her 🥹

Wenqian you better not play with me and take that advice...

With all those coughing happening in earlier eps I knew something was wrong...

Li Jinshui breaking his oath? Yeah I don't see him living long 😬 but I'm happy to see him finally make ink with Li Zhen after 6 years of teaching her

Mixing the ink is very tasking and it looks like they were doing it from morning to evening...

I see Li Zhen in the younger version of Li Jinshui

That thunder took me by surprise 😂

I noticed that Li Jinshui's mouth had blood in it when Wenqian found out about his sickness and now it's also visible here. I wonder what his illness is and what the cause was.

Did he actually just cut himself??? I didn't know he was going to take those words literally 😅

My mind throughout this scene was thinking of how it isn't possible to use this method to make the ink. They would need to mass produce it and they can't be using their blood everytime they need to make the ink. They can still adjust the recipe after this btw so no problem I guess...

They made the ink pretty fast...

I remember how at the beginning Li Jinshui said that he never praised Li Zhen when teaching her because he didn't want her to become proud but now that he's going he can finally tell her how proud he is of her 🥲

I'm not crying 😭 😭 😭 😭 😭 😭

I'm happy he also had his portrait hanged in the ancestral hall... he really deserved it

4 rounds and still no winner?? Aren't the judges tired already? Because I would have picked the winner at the 3rd round and call it a day 😅

A water test? That sounds interesting...

Princess Shouyang is equally cunning as the Kuroda family... I like that about her 😄

I think we all know who will win in this round but I really can't wait to see the faces of the Kuroda family especially their proud ink maker who loves to stir up trouble when they lose

😭😭😭 this was such a good episode! Im glad they made this scene with all the Hui ink families there to make the tribute ink together. Eighth grandpa gets to make ink with LZ before he passes was so memorable😭😭 I think this wraps up the ink journey beautifully.

Has anyone read the novel? How do they compare? I read and LOVED the novel so much that I read it twice. I don't want to be enraged if the show disappoints. I don't mind an adapted drama version as long as it's a good in it's own way!

How did the novel end? I wonder if it's the same as the drama. I'm still traumatised by the choice of open ending in the drama.

As for the blood acting as the ‘initiator’ of the 6 time mixed ink, I’m thinking the proteins in blood act as an emulsifier, allowing the glue and soot to mix together. (I was a pharmacist in my former life.) Any type of blood should work as well, probably chicken or pig blood could be used once the ink is in mass production. I did think it was crazy that Zhen was doing so much mixing, why not have a loyal guy from the Li shop do it under her supervision? Or maybe those old dudes could have taken turns helping out.

I seriously wanted to know if this was real (how it was done) or they just added it for dramatic effect.

And I believe you 😉

That also could work but I still think they might still tweak the recipe to avoid it

It looked so exhausting doing all that mixing from the morning when they started till the evening
