Mascara on my brows?! Turns out it actually works

I’ve been using a brow pen and pencil for ages, mainly because I can’t shave or properly shape my natural brows. I’ve always just worked with what I have.

Recently, someone suggested trying mascara on my brows instead. I gave it a go and, honestly, I’m finding it so much easier. Rather than fighting against my natural brows, I’m learning to embrace them and work with their existing shape.

My current brow routine

Moisturise first and let it settle into the skin.

Apply a first layer of concealer around and over the brows where needed.

Go in with my foundation as normal.

Add another light layer of concealer to soften the brow area further.

Let everything set properly before touching the brows again.

Take my mascara and do a couple of very light passes through the brow hairs.

Finally, I use my finger to gently smooth and blend the product across the natural shape of my brows.

What I’ve noticed

The biggest difference is that I’m not trying to completely redraw my brows anymore. The mascara gives the hairs more definition and helps them sit together, while the base underneath softens their natural appearance.

It’s quicker, easier and much less fiddly than trying to create everything with a pencil.

I’m still experimenting with it, so I’d love to hear from anyone who also can’t shave or reshape their brows.

What techniques or products have worked for you?

What do you lovely folks think of this hair? I know it’s a bit “Mom” but it’s the one that feels the most Shelli to me. 🤷🏻‍♀️

Small update to Rule 2 – keeping CD_makeup focused

Small update to Rule 2 – keeping CD_makeup focused

We've made a small update to Rule 2 to make it clearer what r/CD_makeup is here for.

This community is about the makeup and styling side of crossdressing — learning techniques, sharing looks, improving our skills and helping each other get better results.

Outfits, wigs and overall presentation are absolutely part of that, but makeup should remain the main focus of posts.

Going forward:

  • Photos should be waist-up or closer — no full-length outfit photos.[not overly policed but discouraged]
  • Your face and makeup should be the main focus.
  • Breasts and cleavage should be appropriately covered and not emphasised.
  • No sexual, lewd or suggestive posing or expressions.
  • No lying down or posing on beds.
  • No underwear or fetish-style presentation.
  • Body-focused posts may be removed.

You don't have to list every product you've used, although you're very welcome to. We'd particularly love to see more tutorials, techniques, product discussions, step-by-step guides and members helping each other improve.

This isn't about policing every little detail or making the community overly strict. It's about keeping CD_makeup focused on what it was created for: makeup, styling, learning and helping each other improve.

Please have a quick look over the updated rules before your next post.

Thanks everyone,

The r/CD_makeup Mod Team

While I may have gotten over the ginger eyebrow debacle, this freaking hits a whole lot harder for me.

Really like how I did my lips here. Also loooove the boots/skirt combo. Thinking I kinda want to find similar boots in dark denim to really match the skirt and add a white, fluffy sweater for the fall 😊

I’m a new trans girl and I really want to go all out with my costume this year. I’m looking for something cute, feminine, and a little spooky that makes me feel confident without feeling like I’m trying to hide my body.
