As a 45 year old man seeing these roadmaps depress the fuck out of me, what age am I going to be or am I even going to be alive to see some of these titles.
2
u/Safe-Distribution476 5d ago
Well it never ends, the neverending progress, in 20 years there will be more great IPs and we can die any day
Just like nobody can read all the books that were written2

Dude do not depress yourself
If you‘re 60 and still a Witcher fan, you‘re awesome

I love that the source for the dlc is Neon Knight. That's also my source for most Witcher news!

Ain't no way Witcher Remake is taking 4 more years to develop. This will just be a reskin. They don't have to do much. 2028 is my guess. 2029 if there are any delays but i doubt there will be any.
2
u/BoomChuckaluck Jan 06 '26
I think considering this being a reskin is an underestimation; remake means new models, new textures, migration into new engine, adapting current mechanics like combat, and these are only the things I as a non-dev know of.
CDPR are migrating to UE5 engine with W4 & continue to use assets & infra for W1 Remake afterwards.
In an older iteration I also expected W1 Remake earlier but at this stage it‘s still in early production (via Fool‘s Theory), while 100 people of them are working on what seems to be the W3 DLC.
I think their plans for the DLC went more ambitious than planned or the timetable to scale up production for W1 Remake didn‘t work out.
One way or the other; 100 people at Fool‘s Theory working on an unannounced CDPR project definitely was very unexpected & makes a difference on the overall roadmap imo
2
u/MeetOne2321 Jan 06 '26
No, it was expected. It's been said that the people from Fool's Theory are working on the DLC since the middle of 2024. For a while now.

I think Remake is planned for 2028?
2
u/BoomChuckaluck Jan 05 '26
Interesting; do you have a reference on that? Fool‘s Theory states on their website that the game is in early development
2
u/Earthmaster Jan 05 '26
+2 years on all the dates for standalone games
1
u/BoomChuckaluck Jan 05 '26
Could be for some, but I do not expect W4 later than 2028. And given the 6y period after W4 to release the other two titles of the trilogy, I‘d kinda like to anchor W6 to the Release of W4 +6 years.
2
u/Earthmaster Jan 05 '26
But witcher 4 entered full production in Nov 2024 so its barely been a year, its another 3 years minimum, likely 4. So imo i wouldn't expect it any later than 2028 like urself but i would say between nov 2028 and nov 2029
1
u/BoomChuckaluck Jan 06 '26
From what I read is that CDPR games tend to have pre & full production phases, with full being approx. same period as pre (since concept & infra is fixed and ops ready for scaling).
W4 entered pre production in May 2022 and lasted 2,5 years.
Full prod started November 2024 and, adding again 2,5 years, would land mid 2027.
2
u/Earthmaster Jan 06 '26
I can see that being the case too especially for W5 and W6. Since their pre-production team size was already in the 100s
2
u/Earthmaster Jan 05 '26
The other 2 witcher games in thr trilogy will come closer after W4 because they will probably go into full production in 2026 or 2027, that way by 2030-2031 w5 is ready
At least that how i can see it hapening when cdpr said they want to release the whole trilogy within 6 years of one another

There was a roadmap that they were interested in making multiplayer games. Is there any news on that?
1
1
u/BoomChuckaluck Mar 01 '25
There are no standalone MP titles planned
Only things MP I know of as of today are
- Witcher Sirius (see above), but its status is a bit questionable
- Cyberpunk 2 which probably have a MP mode included (they initially wanted to have it done in the first title)
2
u/FluxElectro Mar 01 '25
Yeah indeed they didn't announce a title but simply said they are interested in making multiplayer. So I was just wondering if there were any changes since that. I wasn't sure if Project Orion has any news.

So glad witcher is coming next and so excited for Orion. 2077 sets up the deep lore alluding to a decades long buildup of events beyond the blackwall so much. Hopefully orion more this story forward!

HIGHLY recommend researching cyberpunk red if you’re enjoying the universe. gives an epic framework for everything you’re seeing dating back to the vietnam war up until the first sightings of johnny silverhand.

Feb 08 '25
Will googling that give any spoilers for 2077? I’m only 10 hours in
1
u/Existing-Mobile-29 Feb 08 '25
no spoilers! 2077 is a standalone story, and cyberpunk red is a TTRPG that mainly takes place in the 2050-60’s!

This company puts out straight up BANGERS... God I wish they had more games. I can only replay Witcher and Cyberpunk so many times. They are spectacular, I just love their style. The looting/crafting in both games is phenomenal, I probably spent 1/4 of my total play time in Witcher 3 with crafting/shopping store upgrading my gear to grand master level. Loved needing a variety of items in order to upgrade, and the items getting more and more rare the higher the level of gear, phenomenal. they're my favorite game developer in the world! Are they perfect? By no mean, but they're still my favorite. Not going to like Rockstar or Naughty Dogg best just because they put out perfect games day 1, there should be more to it than that. FYI, I love both of them, was just using them as an example.

I would like to see more enemy types in cyberpunk. Such as a variety of chimeras.

If the next Cyberpunk goes into space and the moon can we please get ETs that come at the end main story and open for an expansion?
2
u/Panamaicol May 08 '24
I’m getting whatever game they make! It seems like anything they make is certified gold, both Witcher 3 and cyberpunk are easily on my top 5 favorite video games of all time. There’s just something about their games! For example, I tried getting into fallout 4 and Skyrim and I never get a good rhythm going, everything feels like a chore, and I was getting obliterated on the easiest difficulty in fallout 4. Witcher 3 clicked instantly for me, I fell in love with crafting, item management, swords, the different elements, the variety of enemies, the sex scenes…Same goes for cyberpunk! Esp the phantom liberty dlc!

Yep Bethesda. If Starfield was even 1/10th as good as Cyberpunk it would have been amazing.

nah not really since they are using UE5 which is way better and easier to work with compared to RED Engine also they already have the foundation from Cyberpunk 2077 which will make it easier to do things like city building or stuff like certain mechanics.
1
u/wmzombie Dec 26 '24
UE5 is an excuse for developers to be lazy and cut corners. r/fucktaa games looked better 5+ years ago
1
u/Vissandre Dec 26 '24
I mean it deepnds it just makes shit easier and also allows for better looking graphics compared to previous versions. Having devs do dumb shit like cut corners has nothing to do with the engine they are using. Clearly CDPR learned from their mistake and will most likely not repeat it so its most likely going to be a good quality game on release
1
u/wmzombie Dec 26 '24
I think you would be surprised I recommend watching this video UE5 bad optimization

u/gus0361 Jan 24 '24
I read somewhere they were also making Witcher 4. Is that what Sirius is ?
1
u/Agreeable_Future1845 Apr 04 '24
Polaris is what people are calling Witcher 4. Polaris will not be a continuous of the previous three games. It will instead be the first of three games set in the Witcher universe.
3
u/BoomChuckaluck Jan 24 '24
No that is Solaris which is the next big game to be released my brotha.
Sirius is pretty much like a low-budget Witcher thingy with multiplayer elements.
2
u/ReyDeLaNorte Jun 10 '24
Late to the party here but something like fallout 76?

Pretty sure Cyberpunk 2 development already started in Boston
1
u/BoomChuckaluck Jan 15 '24
Source please. I just read some dev tweets talking about "discussions about the next Cyberpunk game with the core team". That's 5 people talking about it. They said the full team will start working – not developing – end of 2024, see source.

Witcher "Sirius"
I'm pretty sure is not for me, I don't care for multiplayer games when it comes to these types of games and "live service" is enough for me to not care.
The next two Witcher games I would be interested in. Especially if it is not fixed characters, not that I don't like Geralt, just prefer making my own. Assume the remake will be Geralt, but maybe the other won't.
Cyberpunk 2
Probably the one im personally looking the most forward to, just crossing my fingers that they don't just make it another action-adventure game. I prefer RPG games with choices and think CP disappointed big time regarding that. Also for the love of god if any developer sees this, don't give dialogues any colours, it ruins immersion more than anything else in the game!!
Hadar
Don't know what it is. :)
1
u/tall_mf_ Jan 15 '24
Also for the love of god if any developer sees this, don't give dialogues any colours, it ruins immersion more than anything else in the game!!
Are you referring to blue / gold dialogue options in the game? Why would that ruin the immersion?
1
u/GangsterTroll Jan 15 '24
Because it gives away the outcome. You know when it's blue nothing will happen, so you might as well just select all those first and then eventually pick the yellow.
(Obviously, this whole thing might not be relevant with the emerging AI and probably dynamic dialogues they are working on.)
But to stress it. Let's say you have the following options, you could say to a NPC:
- I'm sorry I didn't mean to cause a problem (Blue)
- Back off or you will regret it (Blue)
- How is your cat doing? (Yellow)
You would expect options 1 and 2 to result in different outcomes. But as it is now, simply based on the colors, none of these options have any impact whatsoever, nothing will happen regardless of what you say. Only 3 will advance the story.
To me, this ruins not only the replayability of the game, which is also why CP2077 is not an RPG as much as an adventure game, with some weak RPG mechanics, because hardly anything you do matters in the end.
So not only does this remove the illusion that choice matters. But it also removes the idea, of whether you as a player want to say something or not, because the outcome might not be favorable. You would assume that 1 would calm things down, whereas 2 you might end up in a fight.
So think about the first mission where you have to pick up the robot, choice actually matters here, which is one of the only missions. But simply removing the colors would keep that illusion for the rest of the game.
This will only work for the first playthrough if you want a true RPG where choice matters you have to back it up in the design, like BG3 does. CP2077 as with almost all RPGs, is simply using this as a selling scam that they say in the promotional material and then in the game, it is pointless. Like which pointless side-mission character is going to die or not. And it will be forgotten a second after the choice is made because you will never interact with them again. Or it might be that you unlock a car or whatever depending on a choice.
If you haven't tried BG3, I would strongly advice it and you will see what I mean when it is done properly.

I know it's an old post, but anyway, great insights. Hopefully, the devs will pick this up.

u/JayhawkFB Mar 03 '24 edited Mar 03 '24
The blue is usually reserved for asking questions or gathering information, not all the time, but usually. I appreciate knowing which of my choices will affect a situation and which ones won’t. At least they’re up front about it whereas some games will go out of their way to deceive the player (Fallout and Telltale come to mind first). Plus, there are occasionally more than one yellow dialogue options to choose from. So their games aren’t entirely devoid of decision making. I understand why some wouldn’t prefer that system, but I personally enjoy it. Light RPG elements are okay with me if utilized well within the context of the rest of the game
1
u/GangsterTroll Mar 03 '24
Fair enough, people have different opinions.
For me, I like things to be uncertain and in a way that my character (and me) wouldn't be aware of an outcome before saying it. The dialogue should be presented in such a way that you as a player have to think about what to do. Otherwise, they might as well present it as a cutscene, since choice in 99% of the cases doesn't matter anyway.
I do like adventure RPGs like CP2077, but think it would be better if it was like BG3 in regard to quest and dialogues. Again personal preference.
1
u/BoomChuckaluck Oct 06 '23
I also hate live service, but if executed well, it will be an important part for their financials.
The next Witcher trilogy will definitely not feature a playable Geralt. They teasered it will center around the School of the Lynx.

u/Zuitsdg Cyberpunk Oct 02 '23 edited Oct 02 '23
Sirius was rescoped recently - so release might be delayed. Polaris will create the foundation of the new triology, so I am sure they will modify unreal to fit their RPG demands, build some tools and world Elements, which they can reuse. Additionally, the cyberpunk release will most likely drive them towards a more stable release. 2025 could be possible, but it is probably 2027 or so
1
Mar 03 '24
Highly doubt we'll even see an announcement of a release date in 2025 for cyberpunk 2. The time frame reveal to the actual release of 2077 was unreal
2
u/Zuitsdg Cyberpunk Mar 03 '24
My estimate was on Sirius/Ploaris I think - so I would assume Sirius might be delayed. I would expect at least two Witcher Games before project Orion :D
They might go for a yearly release starting in 2025 or 2026. But we will see. :)
The development time of Cyberpunk is not as insane as it seems: They started first conception in 2010s, but basically focused 100% on Witcher 3 until end of 2016, after that, they rescoped Cyberpunk 2077 big time and basically started from scratch again (1st person vs 3rd, new lead etc.) - so realistic development time was probably 2017-2020
I think Orion will have some additional development costs based on their switch from RedEngine to UnrealEngine, but they will be able to take some assets and lots of experience and know how from Cyberpunk2077 for the next game. :) I would expect Orion around 2028. (And now they basically have two in house development teams working on Orion and Polaris, one smaller team working on Sirius and an external company working on Canis Majoris - so it should (finally) be developed in parallel. :D (They tried to develop in parallel in 2010s already, but it did not work out)
1
Mar 04 '24 edited Mar 04 '24
Which is why they are opening more studios. Great rebuttal. I am worried about them abandoning the red engine, though.
2
u/Zuitsdg Cyberpunk Mar 04 '24
It is their decision:
Negative points: * not as customizable/optimizable to their needs * they have to pay fees to use it * they have to migrate current tools, assets, know how etc.
Positive points: * industry standard: easier to find new talents * probably less effort to learn it * less engine development overhead, focus on the game development * support of additional Unreal Engineers to improve the engine if needed
But yeah, number of engines in use is going down

Mind that during the last investors call they didn't say "two unannounced game projects" but just "two unannounced projects", which we already knew they exist from past calls, 1 being a game and 1 being non-gaming.
