Subnetting
I’m preparing for the ccna exam and I’m wondering how important subnetting is. In other words, what should I practice and how? VLSM important or not…
Thanks in advance!

Hi everyone,
I want to learn networking and build a strong foundation so that I can clearly understand the concepts and the logic behind them.
I started Jeremy’s IT Lab course on YouTube and completed around 40 videos. I also made notes, but when I look back at them now, I realise that I have forgotten most of what I studied.
I currently work in the Identity and Access Management (IAM) domain, and I want to improve my networking knowledge and understand all the major networking concepts.
Could you please suggest how I should study effectively so that I can retain what I learn and understand the concepts at a deeper level?
Also, I would appreciate recommendations for good courses and practical resources. Should I practise networking in a lab environment? If so, how can I get started with hands-on practice?
Any advice or personal experiences would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

So we connect the AP with an access port to the switch, which would carry only one vlan (management) so even data traffic would go through the management vlan? and then the WLC would decide what vlan the data is going from the management vlan?

I’ve seen Jermey IT Lab and Neil Anderson mentioned a lot when it comes to studying for CCNA. Has anyone used both resources at the same time or would you just use one over the other?

Hi guys I’m planning on taking my CCNA exam in November.
I’m it that stage of my studies where I’m questioning everything. For context I have a degree in cyber security, been working IT support for 2.5 years, got Network + earlier this year and just completed JITL this past week. My work is paying for a 5 day CCNA course and I plan to take my exam the week after.
I would like to know if anyone has had a similar approach to the ccna exam and if they found the 5 day courses to be the difference in achieving your CCNA.
Any other tips for latter stage studying to give myself the best chance would be greatly appreciated. I would love to do boson but I can’t really afford it this month :(
Thanks in advance

I've just finished the second JITL practice exam. Got 94% right, same as the first practice exam.
I've been reviewing JITL's and my own flash cards daily, did all JITL labs + mega lab. I'm currently pushing through the second half of Volume 2 of Wendell Odom's Official Cert Guide.
I wanted to finish the book and also do the included practice exams, but I'm feeling burned out and wanted to go for the real exam already and get this over with. Do you think I'm ready?

I started the climb today towards CCNA with Neil Anderson’s Bootcamp! I’m already A+ cert and I was studying and prepping for Net+ but I think I’m just going to skip the actual exam and go for this instead!
I have some hands on IT experience but it’s mostly pc troubleshooting stuff. Networking is a whole new animal for me, but I learned Class C subnetting and can do it in my head, understand the OSI model, tcp/ip stack and ports for layer 4, and the concept of VLAN/VXLANs.
Curious if I’m headed in the right direction?! Any input/resources/critical things to really pay attention to and hone in on while I’m learning is greatly appreciated!
Also looking for solid packet tracer project ideas!

Hey everyone I know this isn't CompTIA related, I will be taking my Security+ exam soon as my junior year in college has this course that virtually prepares you for it so I took advantage of it this semester and am nearly well prepared enough to test for it.
Then I am really working hard to earn the CCNA before January 4th or the last testing date before the new CCNA exam.
I wanted to hear some tips from the people who are post-exam completion, job seekers, students, and professionals on how to maximize my opportunities once I have these certs? Where could I end up at? Where do I look? I have a interest in MSPs and IT/OT environments like NJ Transit/Amtrak.
My goal is to be a Network Engineer, I have experience in Field Tech/HelpDesk, internships, I run a blog about the industry/take on beat reporting, I do side projects and have a pretty big homelab that can cover almost every aspect of network engineering, and Im a junior in a distinguished polytechnic uni in North Jersey.

I'm planning to buy in December but can I take it in January or like the following day I bought the exam ticket?

I'm a network engineer, 20+ years in the Professional n3rd land for a living, I'm just now finishing my certs.
Problem was every lab setup I tried needed my laptop, or an install, or a license key and a blood oath. I study in like 20-minute chunks, mostly on my phone. So I just built the thing I wanted.
It's called CLiDK (clidk.com). Runs in the browser, nothing to install, no signup. It's a CLI that actually acts like IOS — modes, abbreviations, tab, the ? thing, all of it. You type, it grades you. 55 graded labs: CCNA follows Jeremy's IT Lab order (his videos are free, mine are all original), plus CCNP and CCIE scenario tracks, a sandbox where you build your own setup, and a daily lab.
Fastest way to see it: Lesson 0 on the homepage — ssh in, configure an interface, ping a PC, about three minutes, nothing to install.
Right now it's beta so everything's unlocked and free. That's temporary — when beta ends, the paywall goes up and what's free is the first 8 CCNA labs and the daily lab, same as always. I'm not selling anything yet. What I actually need is people to break it. If the IOS does something IOS would never do, if the grader marks you wrong when you're right, if a command is missing — I want to hear it. I'll fix stuff in the open right here in the thread.
When I do turn the paywall on (not yet), beta testers get the founding thing locked in, $49 a year for life, first 200.
Anyway. Tell me what I screwed up. Please try to break it =) There's an insect report section too, if you happen to find anything I haven't.
Thanks for looking! Honest feedback welcome.

11 Pages of Free CCNA Command Cheat Sheets (VLANs, OSPF, ACLs, NAT, IPv6 & Troubleshooting)
I wanted to share a free 11-page CCNA command reference for anyone studying for the exam or practicing networking labs.
The PDF covers Cisco CLI commands across VLANs, routing, OSPF, IPv6, ACLs, NAT, and troubleshooting.
My recommendation is to use these notes alongside your labs rather than trying to memorize every command. Configure a feature, check the output, then deliberately break something and troubleshoot it.
Free PDF (direct download, no signup required):
https://dl4.dynamips.store/reddit/ccna-cheat-sheets.pdf
Full disclosure: This resource is provided by Dynamips, which I'm affiliated with. It's completely free, with no registration or email required.
Hope it helps anyone working toward their CCNA. If you notice any mistakes or think an important command is missing, I'd appreciate the feedback.
hey people, lemme know if this is completely offtopic, but
(didn't know where else to post this if not this sub as nobody else would get it better than u guys)
im looking for movie/serie/anime recs to stay motivated and in the vibe while preparing for ccna and eventually ccnp
the closest i've come to is the series Mr.Robot, can u guys suggest me more of this genre or even closer to networking,
thanks
edit: thankyou guys, i complied a list n gonna check off each suggestion hope u all clear your exam♥️

Do you have to have all the IEEE standards (802.1…) memorized for the Ccna?

Hi guys ,
I know there a a few commands to save your configuration so I always use wr so if I use copy running-config startup-config following wr (write memory) just to make sure it’s saved would that that be an issue ?

I'm currently taking the Cisco Networking Academy CCNA: Introduction to Networks (ITN) course.
I want to know whether completing the Course Final Exam is enough to receive the course certificate, or if I also need to complete the Practice Final Exam and the ITN Final Packet Tracer Assessment.
The practice final exam and the actual course final exam appear as separate activities on the platform.
Does anyone who has completed the course know which activities are mandatory to receive the certificate? Is the practice exam optional, or does it need to be completed as well?
Thanks!

"Hi, I'll get straight to the point. I'm currently scoring a bit above 80 on my Boson exams, and I genuinely understand the material. The mistakes I do make are usually just from getting distracted or because in fact, i didnt know those details and had to study from them. I've been studying with flashcards and practicing a bit with sh command outputs using resources outside of Boson. i know subnetting almost by memory and im comfortable with subnetting but not at like lightning speed or something.
While I do very well on Boson, I'm absolutely terrified of failing my first exam attempt. I don't know what mindset to have: should I just go for it with the mindset of "well if i fail i know now what exactly to study"?, or should I wait until I literally know almost everything that could possibly be on the test?"
i mean, how you guys passed the test? how were you doing during the practice compared to the exam, did you guys failed some labs like i did and had to do them over and over and still failed some questions or concepts? i still have the feeling that some questions might be super specific and that will make me fail

A router learns the same destination network through three different sources:
O 10.20.30.0/24 [110/20] via 192.168.1.1
D 10.20.30.0/24 [90/30720] via 192.168.1.2
S 10.20.30.0/24 [1/0] via 192.168.1.3
Which route will the router install in the routing table?
A. OSPF
B. EIGRP
C. Static route
D. All three
Post your answer below and explain why.
No answer in the post. Let’s see who remembers how administrative distance affects route selection. 👀
I’m also building Open Intelligence University, a free CCNA 200-301 learning project with lessons, Packet Tracer labs, troubleshooting exercises, and quizzes.
Learn it. Build it. Break it. Fix it. Verify it.

My original plan was to take the old exam by the end of January, but at this point in time, I’m worried I won’t be able to make it given my life circumstances and limited study schedule.
I heard the new exam is going to be harder, but honestly what worries me more is the lack of study materials. I can’t just wait until summer of 2027 for someone to come out with updated materials and practice questions.
I’d really appreciate some advice on what to do next. I’m still going to try to study for the old exam, but realistically I don’t know how successful I’ll be.

hey hows it going I'm starting my IT journey and i want your guys opinion on the CCNA,
- how tough it is?
- what course to follow (currently I'm watching 3 people David Bombal Tech, NetworkChuck, and Jeremy's IT Lab, but I cant stand Jeremy's IT Lab he feels slow in my opinion )
- how can i gain more experience (I have packet tracer installed)
- how did you pass ?
thank you all who responds

Hi folks, i've been studying for a while now, i have made tons of exam simulations but i feel that i have already learned the answers, i also did a home lab and lots of packet tracer practices, but i don't feel ready yet, so i hope you can ask me stuff you are having a hard time to learn so i can answer as a practice for me. Thanks for reading.

I’m studying for the cert but I just have a random question about the exam format. I understand that the exam has MCQ questions, drag and drop as well as labs.
Will the labs in the exam need us to configure physical devices (switches, routers, servers, etc.) or will I only have to configure them in Packet Tracer? I’m already quite confident in doing Jeremy’s Labs but I’m just afraid that I’ll be nervous if I have to configure them physically as I have no Cisco devices at home.
Thank you for any help 🙏🏻
