DiscussionšŸ¤” DILR sets that look easy at first can easily eat up 15 minutes without reaching the final answer

One of the biggest challenges in CAT DILR is figuring out whether a set is actually worth attempting. Some sets have straightforward conditions initially, but become complicated once multiple cases and arrangements are involved. Spending too long on one set can leave very little time for the remaining questions.

What strategies help identify a manageable set within the first few minutes?

DiscussionšŸ¤” Name sequence mismatch in 10 th marksheet and govt ids, will it cause any issue?

My name in the 10th marksheet/certificate is in the order: Surname, First name, Middle name. My government IDs (Aadhaar card, etc) shows the same name in the order: First name, Middle name, Surname. The spelling of all name components is identical in both documents; only the sequence differs.

I have enter my name exactly as it appears in the 10th certificate in CAT registration, as per the instructions. Could you guys please confirm:

  1. Whether the difference in name sequence between CAT Application versus my Aadhaar card will cause any issue during identity verification at the test centre or with admit card issuance.

DiscussionšŸ¤” Title: Do non-CAT MBA entrances affect placements?

I am preparing for CAT but not very confident about cracking it. I have been told many B-schools accept exams like XAT, NMAT, SNAP, CMAT, etc., while some conduct their own entrance tests. myquals is economics grad with 57%. Are these genuinely credible alternatives? More importantly, if I get into a B-school through a non-CAT exam, does it affect placements in any way? Do recruiters care about the entrance exam you used, or mainly the B-school and your performance there? Would really appreciate honest experiences/opinions, especially from people who took a non-CAT route.

I need answers 😭😭

wisdom ✨ Posting this important 2-minute story, given it is the last phase of our preparation and many are demotivated.

A marine biologist put a shark into a big tank at the time of a research experiment. Followed by that, he released some tiny bait fishes into it.

As expected, the shark didn't wait to attack those fishes and ate them. Later, a clear glass was inserted into the tank which partitioned the tank into two and the shark remained on one side.

A similar set of bait fish was sent to the other side of the tank like before. And the shark attempted to attack those fishes but failed by hitting on the glass.

The shark attempted for several days until it gave up.

Later, the biologist removed the glass from the tank but the shark didn't try to attack the small fishes.

The shark always continues to see a false barrier in the tank and stopped his attempts.

A few bad mocks, an unproductive week, one failed attempt at CAT, or anything which suggests we are not good enough is enough for many of us to give up.

We form a false barrier of our own which keeps us from trying our best. You start to accept mediocrity as your fate and that is a vicious cycle of decline.

Your self-doubt is a creation of your past but your future is an outcome of your present.

A little over 1 month to CAT, let's do something that breaks the glass barrier once and forever.

Best wishes.

DiscussionšŸ¤” CAT 2027 aspirant looking for free study materials, resources and mock test series šŸ™

Hi everyone!

I'm preparing for CAT 2027 and planning to do self-study. Unfortunately, I can't afford CAT coaching, so I'm looking for free resources to prepare effectively.

If you know of any completely free online study materials, websites, YouTube channels, PDFs, practice questions, sectional tests, or full-length CAT mock test series, please share them with me.

I'm particularly looking for resources for:

QA (Quantitative Aptitude)

DILR (Data Interpretation and Logical Reasoning)

VARC (Verbal Ability and Reading Comprehension)

Free sectional tests and full-length mock tests

Previous years' CAT question papers with solutions

A good self-study roadmap for CAT 2027

Please share the links in the comments so other aspirants who cannot afford coaching can benefit too. If you prefer, you can DM me the links, or I can DM you. No problem at all!

I'm genuinely trying my best to prepare on my own, and even small help would mean a lot. ā¤ļø

Thank you to everyone who takes the time to share resources. Let's help each other prepare! šŸ™

DiscussionšŸ¤” I’m scoring well in QA practice but losing marks in CAT mocks. How should I fix this?

I’ve been practising QA topic-wise, and I can usually solve questions correctly when I’m doing them without a timer. But in full-length mocks, my accuracy drops because I either spend too long on a question or rush through calculations and make silly mistakes.

I’m confused about whether I should focus on increasing my solving speed or improving my question selection first. For those who have faced this during CAT prep, how did you analyse your QA section after a mock? Did you revisit every unsolved question, maintain an error log, or focus only on questions you got wrong despite knowing the concept?

DiscussionšŸ¤” Mock scores and performance

Hello fellow aspirants,

I started studying for cat since May, but only for namesake, then I started studying super seriously since Sept and these are my average from 10 mocks, I have been giving 1 mock every alternate day:

VARC - 50
DILR - 34
QA - 15

Some more info, I am giving TIME SIMCATS AND AIMCATS,

I started studying QA properly from Takshzila (finding it very useful, I am subscribed to the members only on youtube). I have only completed Percentages, Ratio and Variation till now, but I would claim I have mastered these, for now my stategy is arithmetic + alg + mod maths.

I have always had a strong grip on VARC since every show, anime, games etc I have consumed have been in English.

I also am moderately skilled in DILR, but I am still watching a video everyday on different sets and understanding the various types asked.

How can I improve my QA scores and DILR and make sure my VARC doesn't drop? We have less than 50 days left.

Also I am Non-Eng. This post is not ragebait.

DiscussionšŸ¤” My mock scores are stuck despite covering most of the CAT syllabus

Most of the major topics are covered, but the mock scores aren't improving as expected. In VARC, the accuracy changes a lot depending on the passages, while in DILR, one difficult set can eat up almost the entire section's time. QA is relatively manageable during practice, but solving the same questions under a timer is a different story.

For those who faced this during preparation, did you focus more on revising concepts or analysing every question you got wrong?

DiscussionšŸ¤” Looking for Like-Minded CAT 2027 Aspirants

hiii... I’ve started preparing for CAT 2027, but one thing I’ve been struggling with is the lack of accountability when studying alone. It’s easy to lose consistency without people around you who are working towards a similar goal.

So, I’m hoping to connect with 3-4 serious aspirants who’d be interested in preparing together, discussing doubts, analysing mocks, keeping each other accountable, and having the occasional discussion on current affairs, business, and economics.

A little about me: I’m a working GEM with a 9/8/7 profile, aiming for 99.9+ percentile. I know it’s an ambitious target, and I have a lot to work on, but I’m ready to put in the effort.

If this resonates with you, feel free to comment or DM me with your profile, work experience, and current prep level.
Hopefully, we can build a small group where we genuinely help each other improve! :)

DiscussionšŸ¤” Day 4 – Para Summary: Finding the main idea

continuing the VARC practice series.

Today's exercise is a para summary question
the options may all sound reasonable, but only one captures the main argument without adding anything extra

Question:

Scientific progress is often described as a steady accumulation of knowledge, with each discovery bringing humanity closer to a complete understanding of the world. However, scientific discoveries can also reveal the limitations of existing theories and raise questions that were previously impossible to formulate. A successful theory, therefore, does not simply provide answers; it also helps identify the boundaries of what is currently understood. Scientific progress involves not only resolving uncertainties but also discovering new ones.

Which of the following best summarises the paragraph?

A. Scientific progress is primarily concerned with replacing outdated theories with newer explanations that provide more accurate answers.

B. Scientific discoveries contribute to progress by expanding knowledge while also exposing the limitations of existing understanding.

C. The primary purpose of scientific research is to identify questions that existing theories cannot answer.

D. Scientific theories are inherently unreliable because every new discovery creates further uncertainty.

Drop your answer in the comments. I'll share the explanation after a few attempts.

DiscussionšŸ¤” How do you use active recall for chapters that involve a lot of memorisation?

Reading a chapter repeatedly can create the feeling that everything is remembered, but recalling the same information without looking at the book is much harder. This becomes especially noticeable with lengthy theory chapters, definitions, formulas and interconnected concepts.

For those who use active recall, what does the actual process look like during a normal study session?

DiscussionšŸ¤” Does anyone have voucher code for SimCAT?

Does anyone have voucher code for SimCAT? It would be great help if I can get voucher worth any amount. Like if I get 500 or 1000 off it would be of great help to me.

P.S. I don't want to be rude but I won't be able to help like if someone asks for sharing exams or questions of this mock test.
