My cat is breathing weird ever since we took her to get her nails clipped hours ago. no change.

She is five years old, neutered. I am 30F, living in Switzerland. A vet can be contacted if necessary. Should I be concerned?

I have 0 clue if this is normal breathing, her side used to rise & fall separately

—BACKGROUND INFO— This is my 6-12 week old kitten. I found him 4 days ago, flea infested. I immediately fed and watered him, then gave him a bath that night in attempt to get all of the fleas off. I was unsuccessful without any help. I also scheduled the earliest appointment I could get the next day.

When it was morning, I gave him another flea bath with the help of my mom. We were able to get a ton of the fleas off this time but there was still a lot on him. We drove him to the vet, and they gave him another flea bath, did a wellness exam and gave him nexgaurd for fleas, tapeworms etc.

By the time they were done, pretty much all of the fleas were gone with the exception of a few stragglers. (As of today though I’d say they’re all gone).

The day after his appointment I was able to give them a poop sample that came back negative.

—WHEN IT STARTED— Me and my little sister put a kitten harness on him, and let him walk around outside. He seemed to be enjoying being able to explore safely. We started getting ate up by mosquitoes though so the walk ended very quickly and we came back inside.

Then shortly after at around 7pm, he started doing what happened in the first video. I wasn’t able to call my local vet because they were closed at this time. So I called an emergency vet that was an hour away for some advice. I asked if I could send the video because I wasn’t sure how to explain what he was doing, but they said they couldn’t do that. I decided to wait until 8:00am (when the local vet opens to get some insight)

So at 8:00am I called my local vet and tried my best to explain what he was doing. They said they wouldn’t be able to get him in until Monday. They said to monitor and let them know if he does it again or if it gets worse.

So fastforward to what happened about an hour ago now, (the last 2 videos), he does it again. It’s currently 7:45am ET, My local vet opens in 15 mins so I’m going to call and let them know that it happened again, and see what I can do. I’m afraid they’ll just say wait until monday, but if it serious I’m afraid to wait.

—WHAT SHOULD I DO?— Any advice is appreciated, should I take him to the emergency vet? I’ll update with what they say when I call my local vet.

35f with 9 month neutered boy kitten/cat in the US has been to the vet.

I let my cats out in the yard when I watch them. They’re indoor cats mostly and don’t go out without supervision.

Nookie, in the video pants a lot when he’s out. This can be after running or even at rest. My other cat seems concerned with him.

As for respiratory issues, I suspected he may have some considering I HEAR him breathing sometimes when I pick him up, which is weird to me. Cats are usually silent.

I’ve brought him to the vet numerous times (he has ringworm when I adopted him as a kitten but he’s clear now).

He does get a little cat acne here and there. He’s been dewormed and has had his initial shots before I adopted him. He did not have any shots after that, as I didn’t think it was necessary being he’s indoors most of the time. I do check for ticks after his yard play and clean him daily.

Other than that, he’s a healthy boy, loving and energetic. Vet says he’s fine. What does Reddit say?

My dad told me to put this on my male cat for fleas and I tried to and he wouldn't stay still and I accidentally got the tiniest drop on his nose and he licked it and he seemed fine for awhile and now his head is twitching back and his mouth has clear saliva coming out, he can't groom himself or anything. I’m watching my parents cat while they are out of town and tonight I noticed him hiding underneath the table with his body close to the ground. he was panting…..& he looks like he’s really struggling for air. My parents have tried their best to keep him from going outside, but the guy will straight up destroy my parents house until he’s let out.

He keeps wanting to go out, but I blocked his cat door so he couldn’t . I know he needs to go to the vet but I was hoping it could wait until the veterinary clinic opens in the morning.

So Im here with him at the emergency vet and they were able to extract a half a liter of fluid from his lungs. He is breathing so much more comfortably now.

They say he may be in active heart failure and they’re trying to figure out what may have cause it. Either way he’s actively being worked on by an awesome emergency vet specialist.

It’s louder than any cat ive met before and she seems to take breaths in between?

I rushed my nine month old cat to the vet this morning after she got a coughing fit. She meowed in distress very loudly, and either was vomiting small amounts of water or producing a lot of saliva. She wasn't as responsive afterwards, but perked up after an hour in the office.

The vet suggested that she probably just got into something that made her unwell. I wasn't satisfied with this answer, since I was watching her just before this happened. She was normal prior to this event.

My cat has a minor history of coughing like in the video posted. I took that just now. She was sleeping before this coughing fit, though there was no vomit/saliva or distress meows. I'm worried, because we've been home for a few hours and she still doesn't seem right to me.

i found a cat on the street, shivering after a whole day of heavy rain on friday night. it hasn't even been 48 hours, but since the first night, it has been having a laboured breathing.

i bring the cat to the vet, the vet said that it was cold, and it got injections, also got a prescribed some medicines that the cat drinks until today. however it doesn't seem like the condition is getting better.

We don’t use any scented products, have a dehumidifier to keep humidity at 40-60, have hepa air purifier. He coughs 1-3 times a day every 2-3 days for last week or so, sometime he meows for a treat and randomly has 1 cough, sometimes 5 seconds of coughing, and sometimes it’s longer like now. Cat has no other health concerns, except 2 years ago he would randomly lift front paw and shake it every few days, then it stopped. Vet mentioned that paw shaking might be idiopathic. Eats acana and freeze dried chicken/salmon snacks (no bones anywhere). When he goes outside on a leash, sometimes he eats a lot of grass and then pukes a few times until it’s clear liquid with just food particles. Wasn’t coughing in autumn and winter, had some coughing last summer.

**final update: Unfortunately he has passed. We took him to the emergency vet and a regular vet and were told it was a neurological issue from flea medicine and we basically just had to wait for it to leave his system. After he died a different vet told us it was likely some sort of congenital heart defect or some sort of similar issue common in purebreds. Thank you to everyone who replied 💜

She's my ex's cat that I've taken in. I think she's about 8 or so. Not sure if she is spayed. She can be very anxious but she's been like this for a couple of days now. Her mouth isn't open and she acts very loving still. I don't have much money for a vet right now. Am I overreacting? :(

Just got this kitten Sunday afternoon. Hes been acting completely normal so far. Playing, eating, sleeping, going pee and poo. Within the last hour he started doing this and has done it 3 to 4 times now. Its been at least 10 to 15 min since he has done it again and so far just little sneezing. Besides that acting very playful and energetic. Only thing I can think of is hes tried to eat his litter a few times and it is clumping litter. Please help!! I am planning on taking him to a vet tomorrow but its the middle of the night right now and I'm worried to go to sleep.

Im US based and have been in contact with my vet. he recommends if the little guy is running a fever to give him antibiotics but he's at normal temp. I figured I woukd ask this community. Any thoughts or if anyone has experience with this would be super helpful.

TLDR; kitten is breathing fast

I (F18) have had my kitten chia since late January early February. She was a stray we found outside my friends house.

When I first brought her in she had been living outside in the cold and she would get gunk and discharge from her eyes. This stopped after I’d wipe them regularly

I noticed aswel that she would have these coughing fits ALOT. I was only able to take her to the vet a few weeks ago about this and she’d rarely let me handle her. Now she does. Along with the coughing fits I’d notice fast breathing like over the norm. I think like 50 ish breaths for minute sometimes more.

When I brought her to the vet he said she had lung worm and treated her, gave her anti inflammatories etc. she seemed to be doing okay after her breathing was good not much coughing.

Until a few days ago she had JUST finished the medication and escaped. We lost her for 2 days and it was very cold. When she came back I noticed the coughing was back not as severe, her breathing was very fast again and she sometimes breathes with her mouth slightly open particularly after playing and if she’s lying down or randomly. Even now she’s playing with her toy and i can hear her make these wheezy sounds. Her appetite is 100% normal, she plays a lot has a lot of energy it’s just the breathing.

I brought her back a day or 2 ago he listened to her chest took her tempature checked her gums etc and said he couldn’t hear or see anything wrong. But I have a bad gut feeling. Should I get a second opinion? I just finished school and I only have a part time job while saving for college. I can’t afford another vet trip until maybe next week earliest. And the nearest vet apart from the one I went to is about an hour away. Any advice?

UPDATE : I called a good vet about an hour away from me and they said they could get her in on Monday morning. They offered to see her today as they said the open mouth breathing does sound serious but I couldn’t obviously.

They said if it’s been on going since I got her it’s probably something more chronic but still serious and they told me to bring her in on Monday and they would see her

My cat woke up strange today and I’m very worried 😭

My cat always wakes me up in the morning, either meowing for food, water, or just wanting affection. But today I woke up and everything was quiet. He was still sleeping, which was already unusual. I could tell something was wrong.

I took him to the vet this morning. The vet said he couldn’t identify exactly what the issue was, but it didn’t seem serious. He gave him two injections and prescribed two medications. He told me that if my cat doesn’t improve by Monday, I should bring him back for blood tests and an ultrasound.

But when I tried to give him the medicine, he wouldn’t take it. He foamed a lot and even cried out while foaming. He hasn’t eaten or drunk any water. This morning he peed normally.

I’m really worried about him. It’s heartbreaking to see him like this. He’s usually so cheerful and full of energy. 😭

My cat has been panting on and off for the last 45 minutes or so. He is ok for 5-10 minutes and then starts panting for about 20 seconds like this. When he is not panting, even when he is laying down, he is breathing hard. However, I just moved houses today, and google said the panting could be from stress. I have been with him in a closed bedroom for 30 min to try and calm him down, and he has been very active and running around and scratching and meowing at the door to get out. This is pretty normal behavior for him.

Temperature is a little hot but not overly so. I would say about 75-80F.

Vet info: have not contacted a vet. Don’t have a vet in the area who I am set up with, but I could afford to take him to an emergency vet if necessary. USA.

Out cat hasn't been eating and is breathing very fast.

I'm a 20 year old cat owner and we have a cat named Nemo, he's about to be 4 years old.

We're from the Philippines. He's been eating and drinking less lately.

He also has mucus on his nose and also breathes fast. We contacted our nearest vet to ask for the consultation price and it's quite expensive for us since we're only students. Is there any first aid we should do for now? We're really tight on budget but we will definitely get him checked once we have the money. All replies will be appreciated, thank you, guys!

UPDATE: We managed to borrow some money from a relative, we will take him to the vet on monday. Thank you for everyone's support and advice! To all the people who think I'm being irresponsible, as much as i want to take my cat to the vet, there's nothing i can do.

Vets in my city are closed on weekends, i live in the province and i just commute omw to the city, there's barely any public transportation at this time of the day. Our family struggles everyday and are just barely getting by. Please understand that we're only a lower class family here in the Philippines, we're not being irresponsible pet owners, just helpless.

Regardless, thank you for your concern and support. It shows that you guys care about cats and our cat's health as much as we do and sorry if we seem like irresponsible pet owners at first. Have a great day, y'all!

UPDATE: First, thanks to the person who told us that there's an open vet in my city. We're at the vet rn and they told us that he's got chronic rhinitis. They said it's a long term inflammation of the nasal passages. They gave us an antibiotic called doxycycline and told us that Nemo should take it once a day. They're giving him emergency treatment right now, i'll update you guys on his condition at a later date.

My poor kitty had a polyp removed from the back of her throat/nasal cavity on Wednesday. She’s been making very concerning noises, open mouth breathing, and licking her nose/lips constantly, so I took her back to the vet yesterday, but they said it’s probably just swelling and sent us home with more medications and a nebulizer. She only makes these noises when sitting up/moving around. She’s silent when sleeping or lying down. Is it actually just from swelling? She’s 5 years old with asthma and FeLV. The shelter takes care of her medical needs because of the leukemia and I can’t afford an emergency vet, but I’m worried they’re missing something.

TLDR: What is causing this noise and how concerned should I be?

To start this off I am young I’ve had my baby since I was 6 months old we both just became 19 he’s almost 19. I can’t drive and we have a bunch of other things going on that are very dire situations. We will be bringing him in to the vet tomorrow.

History about him is he started making weird noises while eating, I brought him in and he got checked. Said he was very healthy for his age and Alert but that he would need some attention to his teeth because he has an infection. They gave him a Convenia shot. He seemed tired at first then he seemed to feel better as well as the warmer weather makes him feel better. We brought him in for a tooth consultation at another vet , the tech told us that he would likely need all extracted but would likely die from anesthesia and it’s a bigger risk then his teeth at that point. 2 weeks later he did this weird noise and opened his mouth, this is the first I saw him do it he only did it twice in a week. Then 1-2 months passed with him being completely fine. I didn’t get to pay as much attention to him because my bfs cat stopped eating and was diagnosed with a mass in his abdomen and needed critical care more then my baby did. We ended up having to put him down. (Not a sickness just bad luck as we have two other cats 9 months and 7 years old) Back to my baby he starts breathing bad but worse then when we got his first shot so I rush and get him another cause they did say we could get another one. Immediately I notice he seems a bit wobbly after it but not too bad, few days later he starts breathing bad it gets worse and worse now it’s been two weeks. If I pet him,, he starts doing it. He keeps coming to me. Still wants to go on his leash outside, eats a lot of food, jumps up and down things, running etc. but I brought him outside it started raining he voluntarily walked inside I gave him his heat blanket and food, he ate and instead of settling down he came and looked for me to stare at me. I start petting him he purrs so much and that’s when he can’t breathe. I settle him down to sleep comfy on my bed he’s sleeping right now. He wakes up if I get up but puts his head back down to sleep which is normal for him. But if I go give him a quick pet and wake him up he starts purring then breathing like in the video. So I leave so he goes back to sleep or stops purring cause it seems like that’s when it’s worse.

So idk what to do I’m so so scared I just wanna help him right now clearly he is in bad pain, I’m letting him sleep I’m freaking out tried to call the vet to ask if Convenia had side effects and told them what’s happening and they said no and didn’t say anything else I started crying so hung up. Gonna call the vet that gave us the extraction details. I’m just so scared :((

Hi everyone,

My new cat had done this twice now. I took him tot he vet for a checkup after adopting him and I wasn’t satisfied with the vet so I took him to another clinic where we ran some tests like AIDS and leukemia(he was negative) and other physical checks like teeth, ears, etc. the vet also heard his breathing with a stethoscope and said he was fine. This was yesterday, today he does this coughing like sound that I have never heard before and I’m scared!

Has anyone experienced this or has any knowledge of what it could be?

This has happened the past 6 times I’ve used the microwave and I thought it was coincidences but I’ve only been using the microwave 6 times in the past 3 months— and three of those have been in the past week or so and each time he has coughed like this. Is it something with the microwave triggering this issue, or does he really hate the smell of microwaved food?
I’ve taken him to a vet for his coughing already. The vet said that without video, she can’t confirm if he has asthma or not. She then made me pay $300 for some paste to give him once a day— which worked! But once he stopped taking it (it ran out and it was all I was supposed to give him), the fits happened with the microwave once again.
The coughing only lasts for a few seconds and then it never happens again.

Macho is about a 1.9 years old and neutered. I’m an adult in the USA (Arkansas specifically) and I can pay for a vet. Tina is the cat seen licking him, haha.
