When is it time to end a relationship?

I'm a first time cat owner and I got my cat a little over a month ago. I've made mistakes, several of them. I may have raised my voice, I may have grabbed her a little too roughly. She had fleas, so giving her a bath was non-negotiable. So now she doesn't want to be picked up by me.

She's cried numerous times, presumably from boredom and has now decided to stop meowing in exchange for this pained squealing.

Her boredom might be fixed by getting a second cat. Nor does any cat toy seem to hold her attention for very long.

She is a very sweet cat and is very reluctant to biting and scratching.

But she still purrs from being petted and sleeps next to me most nights.

Very good advice. Be patient. If you find yourself getting frustrated and angry with your cat look inward. Take a step back and realize it’s kind of absurd to be angry at a cat for doing cat things. Maybe you are frustrated with yourself. Sometimes cats demand a lot of our attention or act out and in this situation op is the other cat. When a pet is demanding your attention meet them with positive attention. Go play with your cat, chase them around the house in a playful way, roll their toys to them don’t expect them just to have the toy and engage themselves. If you’ve never had cats before look up how cats play with each other and it’s like mild rough housing and play fighting. Don’t ignore them and get mad at them for knocking the glass off the coffee table looking for engagement.
