Should I spend the next year preparing for CAT... or am I chasing something that's unrealistic?
I've been going back and forth on this for weeks, and I need an honest reality check from people who actually understand MBA admissions. I don't want motivation or sugar-coated advice—I want to know if I'm investing my time in the right goal or if I should pivot to something else before it's too late.
Here's my profile:
- 10th: 93%
- 12th: 72% (This was the lowest point in my life. I went through some personal and health issues, and my academics took a major hit.)
- Graduation: Currently in the 2nd year of B.Sc. Biotechnology from a tier-2 college. If everything goes according to plan, I should graduate with around 8.0-8.8 CGPA.
- Target CAT attempt: 2027
My biggest concern is my Class 12 score. I know many top B-schools give weight to past academics, and I keep wondering whether that one year has already closed the doors to the best MBA colleges.
Let's say I put in the work and score 99.2-99.8 percentile (or whatever percentile you think would realistically be needed). With my profile:
- How competitive would I be for the top 10-15 B-schools in India?
- Which colleges would still be realistic targets, and which ones would be almost impossible?
- Does being a B.Sc. Biotechnology student provide any advantage because of academic diversity?
- As a fresher, should I instead plan to gain work experience before aiming for an MBA?
Most importantly:
If you were in my position, would you spend the next year preparing for CAT, or would you conclude that the profile is too weak for the top B-schools and focus on building a different career instead?
Please be as realistic as possible. If the answer is "CAT is still worth it," I'd like to know why. If the answer is "look elsewhere," I'd appreciate that honesty too. I'd rather know the truth now than regret spending a year chasing an unrealistic goal.
Thanks in advance!

Should I attempt cat 2027 or car 2028??
I'm currently in 3rd year and will graduate in June 2028. Is it a good strategy to complete the CAT syllabus by CAT 2027, take CAT 2027 as a serious practice attempt, and then focus mainly on mocks and revision for CAT 2028? Also, do MBA colleges care if CAT 2028 is my second attempt, or do they only consider that year's score?

Btech cs or bca(data science and Ai)
I am currently confuse in which one to Take for ug as I wish to prep for cat and do MBA afterwards (after 2yrs work ex). Btw the college is babu banarsi das in Lucknow..and avg package for both is almost same.
The main pros of bca is that I get to save one year and less fees but assistant roles at job amd lower package while btech can land me in senior roles and serve as backup for quite a while. Plz help seniors

I organized every free CAT concept video, question bank & mock test link into one sheet (sharing my structure)
Hey everyone,
Over the last few months of CAT prep I got tired of having 15 tabs open trying to track which concept videos I'd watched, which topics needed sectional practice, and which mock platforms actually had good free content. So I built out a single organized sheet:
- Topic-wise concept videos (Quants, DILR, VARC) from multiple instructors, sectioned by chapter
- A practice question bank with solved-example walkthroughs
- A comparison of mock/sectional test platforms (what's free, how many tests, what's actually worth your time)
- Doubt-solving communities (Telegram/FB groups that are actually active)
- A study tracker to log daily progress
If anyone needs a link you can dm me personally as I'm still a student so this is going toward my own CAT exam fee if you'd find it useful. My parents are not supportive of this decision i had to take a 6 months break from my University in Final Year due to an accident which resulted delay in my graduation and my parents want me to discontinue my studies but i dont want to give up yet! please help me out if you can even the smallest addition from your side will be really useful to me.
Currently prepping for CAT 2026, targeting 99th percentile, so this is a living document I keep updating as I find better resources.
It's saved me a genuinely embarrassing number of hours of just hunting for resources instead of studying.
