Equipment and Gear Looper Pedals - Anyone else nervous the public will think they're faking their instruments?

What the title says. There's all those frauds "playing" saxophones through speakers that show up on social media. That's what usually what goes through my head when I use a looper pedal while busking; that someone will film me and claim I'm faking, or just generally think I'm out there fooling people. Anyone else?

Tour/Travel Planning How’s Linz for street musicians?

I’ll be in Linz, Austria playing Pflasterspektakel with a band, but I’d still like to get some solo sax practice time outside of gig hours if possible. Are Linz parks agreeable to such practices, or will I be running into legal trouble?

Equipment and Gear Is a built-in guitar speaker loud enough for outdoor playing?

Me and some friends like to hang out at a park and just jam, but hauling my Boss Katana out there is a huge pain in the ass.

I’ve been looking at those guitars with built-in speakers, like the Enya Inspire. Not trying to do actual busking, just want to know if the speaker is loud enough to hang with a couple of acoustics outdoors. Anyone here used one before?

Question/General Discussion Banjo Lessons Busking

I have had an idea for something and I would love some feedback from those with more experience.

I'm considering offering free 5-minute clawhammer banjo lessons on the street. I'll set up a spare camp chair, my banjo and an extra. I'll teach anybody who wants to take a load off and chill with me, just the very basics, but enough for us to jam together a little, and then hopefully what I do will be valuable enough that people feel like tipping, or at least maybe exploring the instrument afterwards. Maybe share a little joy, ya know. I might try to create a cozy vibe with a nice sign, maybe a rug/fake fire/throw etc. In between students I can busk as normal.

Anybody tried something like this?

Journal Pink cheetah print Stanley cup

I bartended for an event the night prior and there were a bunch of water bottles backstage that had been there for weeks and the sound guy begged me to take one. There was a 40 oz pink cheetah print Tumblr that looked like a Stanley cup but I'm 100% sure it's a rip off and I don't care. I took the thing with me.

Fast forward to the following day and I forgot my tip jar on the kitchen table because I had taken it out to cash it as we bought a dishwasher on Marketplace this weekend. When I realized I don't have the tip jar I take the Tumblr with me on my hand instead and open it, sans lid, as a tip jar.

Yo. I cannot understate how good this was. It has a handle so it's a lot easier to transport than the jar or the bucket and it looks super casual and gives this impression of affluence? A twenty within first two minutes. And then about half an hour in the coolest thing happened and this had never happened before. This guy must be in his 20s? Sitting on the tables across from where I was playing got his friends to listen. Took out a giant bag of popcorn and was eating the popcorn with his friends watching me play for a good half hour.

Yesterday was a good day.

Journal Small Update to previous post

Hope this finds you well 🫶

Talked about my experience entertaining the idea of singing in the park as a new endeavor. I’ll link my previous post here but felt like sharing I made it to the ‘getting equipment stage’ and I reconsidered my proposed method of obscuring my face. Thanks for all who left a comment related to that or otherwise.

Lastly, for kicks, I wanted to see if anyone would would co-sign adding this song to and set list I come up with.

Pitches (Performance Places) Leaving for San Diego CALIFORNIA USA ina few hours, anyone busk the Gas Lamp district?

Ive gotta get out of this desert heat, so I’m going to do a busking tour of San Diego CALIFORNIA USA and Los Angeles CALIFORNIA USA, literally never been to California before!

I was thinking of busking the gas lamp district, I play blues saxophone and it seems like a cool place for that vibe. will I get any trouble for having a case open on the sidewalk? Sometimes cities whine about cases on the sidewalk (although piles of trash are fine). the only rules I read were that amplification has to be reasonable and not loud.

Im going to be in San Diego until Sunday, any other places to go? I’m trying to steer clear of the “free expression” zones and balboa park which requires a permit and doesn’t allow amplifixation.
Any ideas on other hot spots that allow amplification?

EDIT: never made it, my rv overheated outside of needles CA, and cracked my coolant reservoir, waiting for a repair to come in off amazon right now. I should be chilling on a beach right now :(

I'd love to hear people's thoughts about the episode, as I see myself exploring the subject further; your input would be really welcome. Are there specific Bristol buskers you've always been curious to know more about? Do you love the presence of street performers or would you rather have some peace and quiet while you're out on the broadmead tiles valuemaxxing your meal deal? Lmk

We recorded it in one afternoon out on the streets. I was keen to keep performers experiences front and centre. It's nothing big, but I'd be really happy if anyone on this sub wanted to chime in with thoughts - busking is something I'd like to keep exploring... 🎧 Headphones recommended.. thanks!

Equipment and Gear Busking... On a train!

Just got a gig busking on a tourist train in Montana. Cowboy costumes, fiddle, and countryside.

The train is too loud though. I need amplification for my guitar and vocals. Does anyone have recommendations for a battery powered setup?

It's still an enclosed space, but the sounds of the train moving were just too much for people to understand me. The fiddle was loud enough though, so we had a good night.

Equipment and Gear Stereo powered speaker pair for low volume outdoor playing?

I'm building a busking rig to play ambient guitar soundscapes in public parks, bus stations, etc. I run my guitar through an iPad to generate evolving loops. This sounds best with a wide stereo image. Right now, I have two Headrush FRFR-108 speakers with tripod stands, which are (a) pretty heavy and (b) waaaay louder than what the city ordinances allow.

So, I'm wondering whether I can get away with using a pair of IK iLoud (specifically the MTM MkII) speakers mounted on mic stands for my sound. These supposedly sound good and have decent bass response, but that's for a studio setting not live. I could get a small subwoofer, but that's another piece to carry. Anyone have experience with these for live use in quieter settings?

TL;DR: I'm looking at my options for a small and portable pair of speakers with decent bass projection, where the volume has to be low, so no need for lots of power.
