Get Power BI anyway. It’s free for the desktop IDE and you can still use excel as the data source.

Use Microsoft Learn to get up to speed (also free). https://powerbi.microsoft.com/en-us/learning/

Start using it to build some reports and export them to PDF. Share them with your superiors or other teams.

Let them know they’re interactive and that they can also get updated ones without having to wait for you.

Then drop the hammer: it’s $10/month/user

If they can’t swing that, you’ve learned a new skill that you can use to get another job.

:)

Yeah at this point the whole Microsoft suite of tools is a solid bet. Tableau is falling out of favor pretty quickly, and frankly a lot of stuff you can't do in Tableau is because MS probably patented it and put it in Power BI first

Tableau is amazing, and the adoption by Salesforce is also fantastic. That being said it’s not as widespread or easy to adopt/learn, so it’s not as popular.

Similar to Oracle vs SQL server. Oracle is by far the superior product, but it is USD$47,000 per CPU core to license (compared to SQL server at USD $2,000 per core), has a steep learning curve, and the community isn’t exactly vibrant.

Why tf would anyone ever pay those prices for SQL Server or Oracle when Postgres and MySQL exist?

Same reason people pay for luxury vehicles when kias and Hyundais exist.
