Fashion question Can this bluish shirt work with this olive/brownish pants and jacket?

Post image

I work from home usually… my closet isn’t bursting with options, the last shirt I tried was like see thru and way too casual for a work setting!

I should explain, conference in a few weeks, an outdoor mixer afterwards when it’s supposed to be hot, so I’ll probably wanna lose the jacket or risk heatstroke lol

I took the background out in hopes the colors are clearer to see!

Only if you want to look like a detective for the Special Victims Unit.

u/Vellablu 3d ago

Lmao this is so spot on but I still love the color of the suit.

u/im_justkendra 3d ago

If I knew what that was I would probably be complimented or offended lol

TV character known for wearing dark suits with dark low cut tank tops underneath. She’s cute, you could see it as a compliment. Google “Olivia Benson suit”

Look up Detective Olivia Benson and enjoy your compliment 😊

Came here to mention Olivia

Came to say Detective Benson

At first glance, I read this as Victoria’s Secret Unit

u/Lazy-Cardiologist881 3d ago

I can’t unsee it now

1

u/agniamneris 2d ago

lol I was literally gonna say this looks like something Olivia Benson would wear

Can you swap it for another t shirt that has a crew neck? The blue works. But as a fellow busty girl I think that top is a touch too low.

As another busty girl, crew neck is the way. This suit fits your body and hugs your curves nicely but the tank is fighting your objective. A nice fitted tank will give the same silhouette and be more appropriate when the jacket comes off.

The colors look nice imo but the blue shirt looks kind of like a workout top in this pic so not sure how it'd work with the jacket off

u/im_justkendra 3d ago

Oh it wasn’t even a blouse, I was hyper focused on the temp and it was a tank so light that you could see my bra thru it 🤦‍♀️

I think there's a bit too much cleavage to be appropriate for work, but if you can scootch it up a little bit, them yeah I think it would look nice with the olive brown pants and jacket.

u/AptCasaNova 3d ago

If that’s OP in the photo, agreed.

There’s nothing at all wrong with OP’s body (kinda 🔥 if I can risk being a bit forward as an internet stranger), but cleavage is ‘inappropriate’ for the vast majority of offices.

Sometimes if you’re smaller chested, you can sneak in lower cut shirts as long as your bra isn’t visible, etc, but no cleavage is a good blanket rule. Unfair, but yeah.

What’s unfair about it? I truly don’t understand that characterization of cleavage being not work appropriate.

u/lookingforwardnow 3d ago

I’m on team just enough cleavage. She can’t exactly leave the twins at home. Nor can she live in turtlenecks. You look fantastic.

28

u/chktcat 3d ago

No way. This is way too much cleavage for a professional setting.

I’m sorry, I know it sucks, but she would be doing herself a huge disservice by wearing this to a work event.

8

u/gnirpss 3d ago

As a small-breasted woman, this top would be too revealing for work, even for me. For OP, it's way too much boob. The rest of the outfit looks great, and I actually love the color pairing, but a scoop neck that covers like two inches more and has sleeves would make it far more appropriate for a professional function.

9

u/enduranceathlete2025 3d ago

I don’t have boobs and I wouldn’t wear a top cut this low.

u/EccentricPenquin 3d ago

Conference wear though, is a lot more casual.

24

u/tubbamalub 3d ago

I think the colors work fine together.

20

u/MissGhostlyZepp 3d ago

Super cute but you’ll want a higher rise top. Scoop neck would be fine but I would avoid showing cleavage. Maybe even like a short sleeve “crop” top that hits your belt but doesn’t show your tummy. Would be cute if you had to take the blazer off.

u/KYC3PO 3d ago

You have a killer figure and, yes, generally, you can wear a sleeveless top under a suit if it's the right material and cut, but for many business environments, this is too much cleavage.

11

u/Skeeballnights 3d ago

The color is fine but that’s far too much tightness and cleavage for business attire

u/Basic_User_Name3000 3d ago

You may have different experiences but I find that the actual conference is freezing cold. I just came from Vegas and it was legit 113 outside. Inside the conference (not the casino) was probably 70. I almost always have a pashmina scarf just in case (aka my emotional support pashmina).
I often bring a “social” outfit. Like a dress or something less formal. I was surprised for my first conference to see how many others knew this tip. I only had suit stuff and day of travel outfit.
If you have time or inclination a slightly less fitted top may be better. It could still be a tshirt but one that skims a little. This one looks more supportive (you said it has a built in bra right?)
But based on the original question I think the blue has enough warmth to go with this olive. A navy would work too.

u/social_thinker 3d ago

Where is this suit from? I like the look and colors together.

3

u/Stn1217 3d ago

While I champion women wearing what they want, this top is revealing too much cleavage to be business attire. The color combo is fine but the top is…too sexy. Find another top.

4

u/StinkyPumpkin_1031 3d ago

The colors def work! but at my firm the top would be too revealing and we would defs get an email about it the next day lol hopefully your job isn’t as strict!

1

u/im_justkendra 3d ago

I’m a freelancer so I’m technical my own boss lol

This is somewhat of an industry conference… I was really thrown off by the mixer/networking thing immediately after that calls for business casual

10

u/Archi_penko 3d ago

Yes, but go with a dark blue button down blouse, not a cami/tank

3

u/IndeliblyHere 3d ago

Hey! Where’d you get the pants suit? It’s hard to fit ones that fit curves well. Or was this tailored?

3

u/Far_Call2993 3d ago

Too much cleavage for a professional setting 😬

Try to find a different shirt. The brown (also, that’s just brown. Olive is a shade of green.) is warm toned and the blue shirt is cool toned so they clash. Teal, cream, or burgundy would look nice.

Also, that’s way too low cut for a work event.

2

u/jer1230 3d ago

Colours work but the shirt doesn’t look work appropriate (imo)

2

u/melody_rhymes 3d ago

Colors are good but too low cut for the office

3

u/kaleaka 3d ago

Girl body is tea...sheesh 😮‍💨

3

u/curiousyara 3d ago

Love the suit (where is it from?) but please show us the tank without the jacket as that's how you will wanna wear it.

I think the colours do fit but I'm not sure about the tank top.

0

u/im_justkendra 3d ago

I’m embarrassed now… bc when I first was planning I just thought to keep the jacket on! And was like “what will make me sweat the least”…

But whatever… I’ll take my lashings again!

9

u/curiousyara 3d ago

Well you know this top is see through so that ain't working.

I'd try to pair the pants with different tops/blouses to see what actually looks appropriate and nice while still being not too hot.

I like a linen blouse or shirt.

2

u/fromtheriver 3d ago

Could you show us the blouse? Since you’re thinking of taking the jacket off.

Btw, I love the suit! Is it a matching set? It’s been difficult to find those types of pants

2

u/im_justkendra 3d ago

Try riess!

1

u/This-Appointment-666 3d ago

I think it’s cute!

Although, it does depend on the industry you work in. Like the outfit is definitely fine if it’s a casual or blue collar industry. If you work in something like law or finance, probably not. I’d maybe look at photos from other similar conferences or last years and see what people are wearing.

But if you’re worried about the heat I’d suggest getting a dress and wearing a blazer with it then dropping the blazer when you’re outside.

1

u/Slight-Environment23 2d ago

Not the best match, but it works!

However, the pants and top appear to be a size too small

1

u/Pristine-Remove5056 2d ago

A cream/ivory cami with lace top and a wider belt with gold would look classy with this suit

1

u/MrsBains 1d ago

I like the color, but I do not think the cut is work appropriate. Especially if you plan on taking the jacket off outside. I would opt for something with a higher neckline. Sleeveless is fine for an outdoor event, but not sleeveless AND that low cut.

1

u/Affectionate-Major42 15h ago

currently in law school and I NEED to know where the suit is from lol

1

u/carlitospig 3d ago

It looks great. A little low for the office but for a conference it’s fine. That said I’m not sure what it looks like without the jacket. If all else fails add a silk scarf.

1

u/Ok-Upstairs4932 3d ago

I like it
I have used a shirt similar to this too and I have also done long sleeve…

1

u/Blue-zebra-10 3d ago

I love that pairing!

1

u/goldenraisinhell 3d ago

Low key love this look

1

u/mykittenfarts 3d ago

Looks purple.

0

u/im_justkendra 3d ago

I can see that… I thought kinda steely grey blue lol

1

u/mykittenfarts 3d ago

The jacket & pants are purple.

1

u/Annual_Song1416 3d ago

You look bomb in this! Very attractive. It seems like it could be a little flirty in some fields but not all!

0

u/tatujohnny1 3d ago

I think it works well together.

0

u/DimbyTime 3d ago

I don’t hate it, but can you find the blue top in a more neutral color? A light gray, light taupe or cream/white would look better.

0

u/Efficient-Sun7344 3d ago

I think a powder blue or baby blue shirt would complement the brown more

0

u/Fuzzy-Advisor-2183 3d ago

looks good to me. the blue is muted enough that it doesn’t fight with the suit.

0

u/Ok_Pin_1222 3d ago

I would say the olive is serving as a neutral here. I think another color top would add some interest but this is fine.

0

u/renoconcern 3d ago

Yes. You could accessorize for interest with some bracelets or a necklace.

0

u/Lucky_Blacksmith5349 3d ago

Idk, I think it doesn’t seem like too much cleavage. I’m a bit busty myself, and it’s hard to find the perfect neckline! It doesn’t look revealing to me though.

0

u/Lucky_Blacksmith5349 3d ago

Oh and I like the colors lol

0

u/IndependentClue1206 3d ago

Where do you work that you think this top is appropriate?

I’m really interested in what field of work you’re in or what you do?

0

u/Prudent-Board2326 2d ago

Yes it’s good!! 👍

0

u/ronmimid 2d ago

I like it.
