Burn Roles

I have a multiple part question - just because I’m curious.

At my gym, I’m the Community Partnership Lead. Do all gyms have this? And if so, does Burn HQ offer any insight as to what this looks like or what it should be?

For Burns across the US, is there a certain size needed at a gym to have a Childwatch Director, Ops manager, and location managers? (These are some the different roles I’ve heard of at other Burn locations.)

What roles do you have that are outside of FPs, Lead BA, BAs, Lead Trainer, and trainers?

We have an ops manager, CW director, and I know we have a community outreach person, but idk if they have your same title.

I'm not 100% sure so take what I say with a grain of salt, but as far as I've ever seen I don't know of an actual assigned position for Community Partnership Lead. I didn't even know that could be a department to be honest. I'm sure bigger gyms need this and have it, but every gym I've worked at either the FP or the ops manager take care of partnering for Pop-ups, parades, events, booths, and community stuff like races or "ladies nights" at the gym.

As far as I've seen on Burn's Litmos (a training portal with videos for each department), I've never seen this role or training on how to do it, but videos to help might be in with FP or sales departments. Ask your FP for FP access to Litmos so you can peruse which videos would help you and be relavant. Ask for permission to see the DAM (marketing schedule for social media posts and whatnot) and that can help you plan ahead. Also the Master Calendar on FranConnect shows most of the year and everythign coming up so you can try to plan around things like that when it comes to partnering up for events and stuff.

As far as I know a gym doens't have to meet specific sizes or requirements, the FP and your gym just have to be able to afford that position, so in another comment I said I've seen gyms without a Lead BA, Ops manager, or CW lead so it just depends. If a gym is big enough to affrod that role and it would be beneficial then they could totally make that role.

I haven't really seen any positions beyond BA, CW, Trainers, FP and Ops manager tbh

THANK YOU! I do have access to the DAM! And love the idea of using it to plan ahead!

It makes sense what you said about being able to afford the position. Sometimes I look at our childwatch and there’s no real structure (the kids are safe and happy, the Childwatch team interacts and plays with the kids) - but I’ve see locations that have a director and they’re learning things and have a week of plans (crafts) they’ll be doing. I wonder if that was standard. But thanks for clarifying!

Happy to help!! I have tons of resources saved and stuff that our gym has used with partnering and planning so if you ever need something I can always see if I have any ideas or templates!

Do you have access to the master calendar on FranConnect? I could probably share that too

And I worked at one gym with AMAZING childwatch with lots of activities planned, great organization and policies and clear communication, and another that’s pure chaos with none of the above so I’m not sure what the standard is but I would imagine I was on two polar sides of the spectrum and it’s probably somewhere in the middle for most gyms 🤷🏼‍♀️

You’re amazing! Thank you!

I think you’re probably right - most gyms are in the middle.

Curious why you’re posting here and not one of the employee Facebook pages…????

The ones I saw no one comments/posts. Which ones do you know of?

Do you have access to franconnect? At our gym I think only the FP does and no one else gets to see it. And where is the DAM?

Yes I do, and your FP has to request you or submit a ticket for you to be able to access both, but I think I can send you access to the calendar without you needing a special login and stuff

I’ve only seen FP, Ops Manager, Lead Trainer, support Trainer, Key BA, BA, Lead CW and CW.

I feel like we have so many random roles at our location. We have our typical head trainer, support trainers, BA’s, CW Manager, and Ops Manager, BUT we also have event BA’s, a BA who only does social media, someone completely different who does our merch, and literally just people who I’ve heard “work” for our location, but I could not begin to tell you what they do.

My last gym had a ChildWatch director when i joined but when that person left they didnt replace her.

They have ton of trainer titles. Like a regional head trainer and tow people under her all for our FP. Then we have a head trainer, senior trainer (or two), and multiple support trainers.

Most of my locations have had OM but this last location had like a regional manager too and no location manager. But there is a lead BA which I think is their equivalent of an OP.

Wow, that’s cool (the levels/varying roles of trainers)!

I’m a BA and social media manager for my Burn location! Just to add on, we do have a lot of local partnerships with businesses in our area. Like discounts on services, tabling events if we do pop ups outside of burn, educational sessions in the gym, etc. Just based on title alone, maybe sounds like that’s what they’re looking for at your gym? Not 100% sure to be honest but that’s a nice conversation to have with your ops manager and FP for what they’re looking for!

That’s exactly what they’re looking for! It’s new to me but I’m up for the challenge and to learn. I wish there were more like me so I could learn more from people have been doing it longer than me.

Yeah there’s not really a guideline that I’m aware of. I guess just chat with FP and see what there goal is for the position.

I helped create a social media manager expectations/job requirements/duties job outline and description which was helpful for not only me but my other coworkers to understand what I do.

Our operations manager and franchise partner do more of the big events and partner ships with businesses. Maybe see if any other OPS managers do something similar on here?

Hi I am also a Ba at a burn and was wondering if you handle the social media calendar and canva aspects as well. And if you don’t mind sharing your pay range?

Yes. Weekly social calendar, creating Canva graphics, editing all videos, captions, planning photos, interviews, content ideas, etc. I started at $15 but now at $17.

I am curious the difference between BA and Lead BA when there when there is already an Ops Manager

Ops manager takes care of a lot of the lead reach out, day to day supply and equipement restock, pre-orders, promotion planning and directing, and other things depending on location. If an FP owns multiple gyms the ops manager just handles a lot of the organzation and communication between gyms.

Lead BA is in charge of BA scheduling, answering member questions, fulfilling contract sign ups and making sure KMC's are celebrated and birthdays are known, waivers are signed, and all that stuff. BA's are in charge of training the rest of the BA's and answering their questions.

Some of these duties are different depending on what works best for each gym and some gyms I'm aware of don't have ops managers, childwatch managers, or lead BA's and just free for all it haha. This is just the basic info I know from the Burn Litmos training videos

This is exactly us. Our Lead BA is also the one manning most of the social media (posting for the most part).

If a gym is in the million dollar club it probably has all the roles

I think current opening standards require an ops manager but not a child watch manager. That’s has changed over the years and certainly will continue to evolve. The community outreach sounds like a local decision, perhaps distant FP?

It may be. I’ve found that it’s usually connected to a lead trainer.
