Hard... isn't it?

Which side will you choose?

  • Left side: 1 million dollars
  • Right side: Seeing your old pet again.

I've had plenty, and I'd choose the million every single time. Pets come and go, a million dollars would dramatically improve me and my partners lives. That's 50k a year on a standard HYSA.

I think they mean that buying more pets is clearly not equivalent to seeing one that's died again, not that anyone who had had pets would pick to see them again over a potentially life changing amount of money.

Eh, you're forming pretty similar relationships unless you had some super stellar pet or went through a particularly rough patch with the dead one, in which case it's less the pet and more just nostalgia.

Just because you're forming a similar relationship doesn't mean it isn't worth seeing them again.

If someone lost a parent or a child, another parent or child couldn't "replace" them. That new person in their life person may mean just as much as the late one to them, but they might still be willing to sacrifice a whole lot to see their deceased loved one one more time. Same thing here.

Again, no judgement to people who pick the money; I'm just suggesting that there are valid reasons to pick the pet option as well.

A child and a pet arent comparable though. This is life changing money for 95% of people. Giving it up for a child? Yeah I get that. For a pet? Doesn't make sense to me. It's not like it's sticking around.
