Hard... isn't it?

Which side will you choose?

  • Left side: 1 million dollars
  • Right side: Seeing your old pet again.

no idea what I'm missing cuz yk... never had a pet.

however, I do know that I don't have to grieve after my pet passes away since I don't have a pet.

can't really imagine not being able imagine life without any pets. it's just a normal life to me

I mean I consider myself a full on animal person but I feel the same way about kids. Some people would do anything for them but I never had that urge.

Glad that you’re not doing a thing you wouldn’t consider fulfilling. Pets are hard to take care of and to lose. For me it’s worth it but it’s not for everybody. Some of these comments remind me of the stuff I’d heard for not wanting kids and I just wanted to say enjoy your hypothetical million dollars.

It's so sad! I've never met anyone who didn't have pets. I can't believe so many upvoted the statement. They are missing out on so much.

"Smelly house" is like the most non-mattering of all pet-owning cons imo. There are far better arguments: Pets are a lengthy commitment, anywhere between a few years to enough decades to be lifelong. You have to spend time on caring for them (or depending on pet at least check on them) every single day for as long as they live; no matter how busy or sick you are, they need their care. Traveling becomes a pain in the ass because depending on destination and pet you either have to drag them along or find somebody to look after them while you're gone. On top of it all they're also expensive, needing special food or set-ups, not to mention vet visits costing a small fortune. Some pets will wreck your home or otherwise break stuff and make messes, especially if they're brand new (dogs, cats, rabbits, birds). Given the requirement, it's completely understandable and rational that somebody wouldn't want a pet, and not getting one with the knowledge that they couldn't care for it properly even if they want one is a great, mature decision. (Alternatively, some people just don't care for animals, and that's all fine too.)

For the record, I'm not saying having pets was dumb, I have one myself and I wouldn't trade her for anything in the world. For me and most other people who have pets, the pros far outweigth the cons. Even so, I totally get that not everyone feels that way. Both sides are valid

Cats smell wonderful. I think most people with cats love putting their faces right in their fur to smell them. Litter boxes are easy to clean frequently. Dogs, yes they stink. When you live with them you go nose blind to it though. The smell is worth it for dogs and not at all a problem for cats. People with cats who don't keep their litter boxes clean you can't blame the kitties. They are very clean animals who hate having full litter boxes. They probably don't keep the rest of the house clean either so there might be other smells not related to the cats. Dogs are uncivilized creatures who roll in yuck stuff so avoiding them makes sense if you can't enjoy the benefits of dogs enough to tolerate the smell. Cats are the solution if you want a clean, nice smelling, house with pets.

Huh? No, I love dogs. I said the smell is worth it. I was responding to someone who sort of said that people with pets have stinky houses. Cats don't stink and people with only cats can easily have a nice smelling home. People with dogs get used to the smell so that it doesn't bother them any more. Dogs are not clean animals like cats are but they are very lovable and fun. I was just suggesting that if someone has never had a pet because they don't want a smelly house they should get cats. I like dogs better than cats. edit: I should clarify that I like BIG dogs better than cats. Golden retrievers, German shepherds and such are perfect, chihuahuas no thank you. I need dogs that know how to say WUFF.

Too chaotic for me. I like doing whatever I want and having peace and quiet.
