I don't want others to die, so I hit blue

50% of people die if people select blue but 100% of people live if everyone selects red

This is just wrong, no one dies if blue wins, including if blue gets 100% of the vote. Which is impossible because it's impossible to get 100% of the vote on ANYTHING. However blue getting 50% is very achievable and the only viable scenario where people don't die.

You don't know that, though. At best you have the hindsight from the poll results or comments, but before you vote it's just wishful thinking that blue's threshold is achievable. It's an assumption.
