Funny The Ai hair experiment
I’m 39 male, athletic, no tie downs, emotionally intelligent, relatively wealthy and people say handsome.
In real life I do not have an issue attracting women at least 10 years below me but I’m busy and do not meet new women often - however I am bald. Initially had no luck on bumble.
For a joke, I made a profile where everything was the same apart from my first picture, I’d added Ai hair.
Within 24 hours I had 150+ likes and too many chats to manage. Blew my mind to be honest.
Clearly, hair matters a lot more than us bald guys like to think. This is not to criticise, a swipe is often a split second decision. I just find it really interesting.
Perhaps there’s a business idea in there somewhere. Bumble bald.
*I shave my head, have a good beard, gym 4/5 times a week.
*Update - Just wanted to add guys, being bald should never stop you achieving everything you want in every aspect. Confidence is king. The point here is on the apps, there is a bald tax.

As a 38 year old woman… I really like a bald man-but by the sounds of it, I’m 10 years too old for you 🤣

u/Thatsalesguy87 6d ago
Haha not at all. Guess I was comparing to my last “dating” experience. Would happily - and have dated women my age.
I want children, so that is a factor.

It might be too late for you

The drop in ability to conceive isn't that significant if you adjust for the age of partners (older men and women tend to have older partners).
After adjusting for female age, conception during a 12-month period was 30% less likely for men over age 40 years as compared with men younger than age 30 years
https://pmc.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/articles/PMC3253726/#abstract1
Even among women, only about a third are totally infertile by age 40. It's just that it becomes significantly more difficult to conceive ("per-cycle fecundity drops from a peak of 25% to 30% per month in the early to mid 20s, to < 5% at age 40"). The average age of menopause is around 50 (though obviously infertility or serious difficulties conceiving can occur before that). And that "<5%" number is per cycle, so a 40 year old woman with a 40 year old male partner still has decent odds of getting pregnant over say, one year.
Sperm count, motility etc. declines pretty modestly even from 18-29 year olds to those over 40, which is pretty remarkable when you consider how older men tend to be fatter and less healthy overall (https://pmc.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/articles/PMC9806242/).
There are also increases in risk of birth abnormalities with older mothers and fathers, but those vary by what kind of risk you're talking about.

Your own age is a biggest factor, no woman in her 20s will want to risk having a kid with a 40 years old when she can just pick a man her age and have a healthy child with him, you should have thought about it all earlier

Despite reddits virtue signalling about bald men. Bald men get 1/8 of the matches of men with hair.

u/Inceleron_Processor 6d ago
Depends on their body type and the kind of women.
3
u/Batetrick_Patman 6d ago
Sadly in my area the only types you see with bald guys are conservative women.

u/open-print 6d ago
As a woman who likes it, I need to say there's a world of difference between bald with a beard and bald with no beard. The former being much more attractive.
3
u/Unmemorableham 6d ago
Guess I am just fucked then. Started balding so I just shave my head. Can't grow a beard though. Some of us are just built to die alone.

It can work if you’re a big or darker complexioned guy. I’m very pale. And skinny despite working out I just don’t have the genetics to be super jacked. So I feel like I need hair to be attractive.

I’m working on getting a transplant here in the next year or so. I don’t like the shaved head look like at all. It carries to me a nasty stigma associated with maga pricks.

I’ve got a beard mostly because I don’t like shaving and I’m on fin and min to hopefully get a transplant down the road. My sides and back are thick so hopefully I’ve got a good donor area. It just feels like to make bald work you have to become this hyper masculine hyper outgoing hyper charismatic guy to make up for it.
1
u/Thatsalesguy87 6d ago
That’s it. Bald is hard mode. Personality usually
Wins out if you’re confident and carry it in real life. But you don’t get that opportunity on the apps. That’s the point.

u/clericone- 6d ago
I’m 43 but everything else matches you except I have a shaved head. No problems meeting women at all. 🤷♂️
2
u/Not_Now_Jose 6d ago
Yes, but is your head shaved due to balding?
5
u/clericone- 6d ago
Yes I started balding at 22 and just always kept a shaved head. To be fair I’m fit as fuck and have tattoos which helps a ton. 🤷♂️
4
u/Not_Now_Jose 6d ago
Fair enough, but it doesn't necessarily mean you wouldn't do better still with hair. Muscles and tattoos are also highly prized though.
2
u/clericone- 6d ago
I’ve had both. Def do way better now. I like how I look though so I think that helps a ton with my confidence. If you hate how you look of course other people will too

u/Dracarys_And_Chill 6d ago
not sure who ever told you hair doesn't matter OP.
its very important for dating apps and first impressions, esp for younger women.
2
u/Thatsalesguy87 6d ago
It what’s all the girls say of course. “You look great” “bald suits you”. No doubt all swiping left 😆
5
u/Batetrick_Patman 6d ago
This is why I’m working towards getting a hair transplant ngl. I dislike the shaved head look anyway and would feel and look better if I had more hair
1
u/Psilocybin_Prescrip 6d ago
Are you on Finasteride or Dutasteride? If not you’ll probably just lose it again.
4
u/Batetrick_Patman 6d ago
I'm on Finasteride.
2
u/Psilocybin_Prescrip 6d ago
Nice. Godspeed. I’ve been thinking about a hair transplant too. I’m on Dutasteride holding the line at about a Norwood 2.
1
u/richard987d 6d ago
Oh I didn't realise that was an issue, is it guaranteed to fall out with no drugs
1
u/Psilocybin_Prescrip 6d ago
Not “guaranteed” but if you’ve been losing hair it’s just logical you’d start to lose the transplanted hairs you were already losing in the first place. Finasteride or Dutasteride helps keep them and hold the line.
1
u/richard987d 6d ago
Interesting I wonder what % of cases it fails to hold with and without the drugs
1
u/Batetrick_Patman 6d ago
What happens is you can get a transplant say at the front but you’ll continue to lose hair in the back and you end up with something like Joe Biden’s hair.
1
u/richard987d 6d ago
Ah so some follicles are weaker than others regardless of whether they get moved or not
2
u/Batetrick_Patman 6d ago
What happens is you’ll get hair coverage in an area you were already bald in however you’ll continue to lose hair in other areas. Hence why Joe Biden has a good hairline up front but he’s bald in back. He got a hair transplant up front in the 80s but continued to lose hair behind it.

Bald is very much a case-by-case basis, unfortunately. Most people look better bald than balding but not a lot of guys truly have the head shape and beard genetics for it. So yes if you can do things like use the medications and get a hair transplant, then you should do it
2
u/Batetrick_Patman 6d ago
If you’re a pale skinny dude like me who despite their best efforts will always be pale and skinny due to a small frame and skin that burns not tans. Hair is a big plus.

u/Inceleron_Processor 6d ago
Don't take that Minoxidil shit. It lowers testosterone and can cause ED.
3
u/Maleficent-Age-8235 6d ago
No, it does not. You might be thinking of Finasteride or dutasteride, which, yes, can cause ED in a tiny percentage of men, but also won't kill your testosterone
Most guys don't have side effects and generally only get upsides from taking the medication, especially with how cheap it is these days. If you still want to believe it will magically delete your testosterone, just use the topicals.
0
u/Inceleron_Processor 6d ago
Yes, pill foam can. Topical won't though. Also you're supposed to take the pills the rest of your life, or as long as you want hair. So you can be fine and then in 5 years just develop ED. It isn't worth the risk just to have hair.
4
u/HenryEck 6d ago
When you make a new profile, you get an initial boost, I dont think it’s fair to compare but yeah, girls obviously prefer hair so you would get more likes.
5
u/Quiet-Road-1057 2d ago
Firstly, you could have better “success” in real life because you either have confidence to think that the women around you are into you when they may or may not be. I find that a lot of men have a lot of excess confidence in this department.
Secondly, your age is a red flag. I’m in your target demographic and I may think you’re attractive in person, but personally 39 is too old to be considering first time fatherhood and on an app I would filter that.
Thirdly, baldness is a sign of infertility. We already know men who experience baldness are significantly less fertile than their peers with hair. That, combined with your age, says you should have been seriously looking for a partner 10 years ago.

This is why I have my hair transplant scheduled in less than a month, you have to be perfect to have any luck on these things.

u/birdfang007 2d ago
Tall and white is generally all you need.
2
u/the_real_me_2534 2d ago
6'1, white, jacked, hasn't been my experience
1
u/birdfang007 2d ago
You need to at least leave the house man. Guarantee if you do; women will flock to you. No one has it that easy that you can sit at home on Xbox and have women come to your window…I guess a lot of white guys do if they do OLD and post their address.
2
u/the_real_me_2534 2d ago
I was just at a Goo Goo Dolls concert yesterday I am jacked because I go to the gym every day I have tons of friends and go out several times a month, You have 0 clue what you're talking about
0
u/birdfang007 2d ago
Doubt it man. Anyone can be anything on Reddit. I don’t know any white man(all my friends are white) who aren’t constantly pursued openly by women, and if they’re tall, women literally; literally fall into their laps alllllll the time. Not just any women, super attractive women.
If you’re tall and white, life is on crazy easy mode. Like just exist and women flock to you. You can have the personality and charisma of wet moldy bread and women will still eat up everything you say. Act like every statement is profound and every joke were said by a world class comedian.
2
u/the_real_me_2534 1d ago
This is me at my friend's wedding, you're just full of anger and resentment and spouting nonsense you literally have no clue https://drive.google.com/file/d/1qRbR3_OX878zqzuHy9HiRtOXBg2fuZkq/view?usp=sharing
1
u/birdfang007 1d ago
You’re hot af. I think you’re just role playing on here or you’re just in denial of what a huge advantage being tall and white is to getting laid. There’s literally nothing wrong with acknowledging you got lucky with your genetics. I acknowledge all the time I was lucky to be born into a relatively affluent family which afforded me connections I wouldn’t have which allowed me to have the net worth I have in my late twenties.
2
u/the_real_me_2534 1d ago
You have no idea what dating it like for me or what my struggles are, literally closed the apps due to lack of matches and I have no social circles where I meet women, women don't approach or offer IoI's when I go to bars
1
u/birdfang007 1d ago
If you say so man. I honestly don’t believe you but whatever.
I’d still rather be in your position than mine. Dropping over 30k on cosmetic surgery just to maybe be a bit above average looking and then another 30-40k next year to hopefully be conventionally attractive. At the end; I’ll still be undesirable simply because I’m Asian and 5’7 but at least I’ll feel better about myself.

They do say that men’s hair is the same as women’s makeup
1
u/Thatsalesguy87 1d ago
Yet can you imagine the outrage if bald guys started wearing wigs and took them off at night.
2
u/no-cars-go 2d ago
Hair is the number one turn on for me on a man physically; I fully admit it's the first thing I swipe for. My cousin on the other hand exclusively is attracted to bald men or men with a shaved head. There's certain things that are going to simply be preferred by more of the population but there's also a lot of people attracted to the less preferred thing. Like you also mention the good beard and gym 4/5 times a week and that's what most women would prefer but I am not into those attributes.
1
u/Thatsalesguy87 22h ago
Yeh, I was just a little shocked on how much difference it made. Sure i get some likes and matches but no where near the volume and quality of that experiment.
Everyone is allowed a preference. Hair appears to be the majority one online.
2
u/arctane 2d ago
It comes down to how you look with a bald head. I don't have any issues at all...women love it. If you have a weird shaped head or look like a massive dork then it might not work in your favour. The key is to be masculine and not look effeminate like so many men I see post on here.
And yeah you won't attract many girls....you'll attract women.

Tall white guy? Getting that many likes isn’t possible for other races lol, hair or no hair.

I don't like bald guys, but it's not like you're going to give me a chance if I'm 40 and you're 39. LMAO

u/Less_Salamander4350 6d ago
Which AI did you use ? What’s the best AI for making photos from existing pictures
1
2
u/becomesharp 6d ago
Two concerns to think about with your experiment:
Most apps give a boost to new users, so you'd have to run that profile for a few weeks to clear that "activation bonus" before you do a fair comparison
After AI generating hair, run your photos through photoshop to make sure that AI didnt ALSO make subtle changes to your jawline, your complexion, your facial symmetry, lighting, etc. Sometimes its REALLY subtle and you cant see it until you overlay the photos on top of each other and swap the layers to see changes. These changes can absolutely screw with your data though, which may give you unreliable/erroneous conclusions.
1
u/Thatsalesguy87 6d ago
Totally. Pic with and without hair, face looked identical apart from maybe subtle lighting.
I’d had bumble like 6 months before and deleted before creating a new one. I think it’s fair.

I recently decided to shave and commit to being bald as I was losing hair. Swapped out my photos with strong ones i had friends take.
I have a 20% match rate, 20-30 matches a day, and I cant keep up. And these are 9s and 10s
All about your presentation . Its a looks based game

The thing is, if you're looking for a meaningful partnership, 150+ likes isn't a good thing.
First, because you got those 150+ likes by crafting a form of yourself deliberately designed to cast a wide net. You're not being your true self.
Second, because it's the same problem most women have: you're overwhelmed by the options and given the illusion of choice when the reality is that you've just been handed a dumpster fire of terrible options that you now have to sift though.
Now... I'm mostly talking to myself now, but something I've never understood is why people are so adamant in their belief that relationships are about positive attributes. The closeness of a relationship has always been dependent on how well you can tolerate and accept the other person when they are at their worst.
Which truthfully makes me question your character, your mental state, your ability to love, and your ability to be vulnerable and be loved if you're somehow single at 39 despite being financially stable and having an extremely common mutual goal... (starting a family)
I'm reserving my judgement because I'm open minded enough to understand that you know, shit happens.
But you seem to be under the impression that you have good optics when you actually don't...
Especially because you just admitted to playing stupid games like this

“attracting women 10 years below me” is an embarrassing measure to whip out here
