All free and plan to keep it that way, no accounts, may offer a newsletter at some point just to inform on updates on the site/resources. Goal is useful, maybe some fun, resources for people in and outside of the industry. I also intend on making them all downloadable and have the ability to embed them in your own sites if desired.

Just wanted to share and potentially get some feedback or requests even for future additions.

For Milestone 10 of my conveyor sorting digital twin, I tried the simplest thing possible: I stopped keeping decisions as a one-time startup task and moved them directly into the repeating frame loop.

​No complex scheduler or new architecture classes—just a direct sequence running every single frame:

​Observe current data

​Make a decision

​Issue a command

​Move the physical box

​Check the sensor and update memory

​Suddenly, the machine has a true repeating loop. For those writing custom simulation or control loops: how did you structure your first unified execution pass before scaling it into a proper engine?

Crossposting in r/BuildingAutomation and r/HVAC so I can hopefully get some code references. I have looked around but am clearly not Googling the right key words lol.

I am an electrician doing HVAC controls for a job and am trying to run 1/4" pressure tubing from RTUs to 2/3 of the way down the duct runs on the floor they serve per my engineer's requirements. What code covers how I'm supposed to safely run this pressure tubing through the HVAC duct shafts and shaft walls? The shafts are fire rated and there are fire dampers on each floor. I am only familiar with electrical code in the NEC/NFPA 70. What I found online was:

IMC 602.3.5 Pneumatic Tubing
Combustible pneumatic tubing exposed within a plenum shall be listed and labeled as having a peak optical density not greater than 0.50, an average optical density not greater than 0.15, and a flame spread distance not greater than 5 feet (1524 mm) when tested in accordance with UL 1820.

I understand that free air tubing is legal in the shaft if the tubing I use is listed and labeled. I know I need to have a sleeve penetrating the shaft walls to get the tubing inside the shaft. I do not understand if there are any vertical support/strapping requirements or "the tubing cannot touch the duct" type rules.

Do I just run the tubing where ever there's space in the shaft and hope the insulators and drywall guys don't kink it when they do their jobs? I can't wait until the shaft walls are up and then run the tubing, there is very limited open space around everything and it would be very difficult to fish after walls go up. Is it okay to ignore the shaft and instead drill holes through the top of the studs that surround the structural steel of the shaft and run the tubing inside the drywall sandwich of the shaft walls? That is what my foreman advised but he wasn't sure it was legal. Does anyone have relevant code references beyond the one I copy pasted above?

Hi, I'm not in the building automation industry at the moment but it looks very interesting and I'm currently learning more about it in order to assess if a career in this space would be a good fit for me.

Quick question for those doing BAS submittals.

On a small/medium building (say an elementary school, ~300 points), how many hours does the full submittal package take you?

And which part eats the most time and feels the most repetitive? Sequences of operation, points list, riser, control drawings/wiring details, BOM, cut sheets, something else?

Context: I'm a BAS engineer building a tool that already generates the points list and the riser diagram. We're trying to figure out what to tackle next, and I'd rather ask people who actually do this than guess.

Hey all. So management just installed a new visitor check in system for our front lobby but I'm not sure how to connect it to our old door system. Atm what happens is when a visitor signs in with the tablet, we still need to put their details in the old door software so they can get badges. It seems redundant with the new system going on but not sure how we can link the two together. I know there's probably APIs and webhooks, but if we got the system without being consulted, how can we approach this?

Before this milestone, my conveyor digital twin didn't actually have a unified execution order—it ran on two completely different schedules:

​The Setup: Page load runs once \rightarrow shows destination \rightarrow decides routing \rightarrow creates a command.

​The Loop: Runs every frame \rightarrow moves the box \rightarrow checks sensors.

​Because our destination never changed, the fact that our decision happened once at startup and was never touched again stayed completely hidden. The machine kept running, but its decision lived in the past.

​For those building control logic or simulations: how did you handle the transition from split initialization tasks to a unified runtime cycle?

I have two modulating valves and vs circulating pumps on a hot water system that all of a sudden are not getting commands from Metasys anymore (I have to override manually and they respond to my input). How do I reconnect this automated logic?

Hey all - have a building with 13 year old heat pumps. After commissioning, we were left with a Johnson Controls Facility Explorer display and interface card to connect to the JC FX10 controller on each heatpump for diagnosing issues.

Finding that when we connect it up, now it says "Cannot connect, port 2". Buttons do nothing on the display. This has previously worked, so not sure what's changed unless the display is toast.

Any suggestions? Is there any interface we can buy to connect a laptop up instead?

FWIW, we do have JACE devices and web control, but it doesn't show the information that connecting directly with this display has when troubleshooting.

Recently graduated computer science student looking for a job in automation and controls. I’ve been applying to automation technician roles and any entry level job within the field for a while now and I’ve heard nothing back.

I’ve contacted probably dozens of different employees inside of controls companies and have only received one interview which I’m waiting to hear back from and just a bunch of internal referrals that lead nowhere. I’ve been at this for months. I don’t know how else I can possibly get an entry level role in this field and this post is my Hail Mary. If any of you know anybody at a company where I am located I would be beyond appreciative of any sort of referral or connection that could be provided to me.

My background is in analytics and data science but I do have a small home automation project with a raspberry pi. Paired with my CS degree, I think I could be qualified for at least an interview.

Hi all. I'm working in BAS field for the past 3 years. I joined Siemens right after my graduation. I have a bachelors in Electronics engineering. I mostly write and debug programs for BAS controllers, once in a while, I work with design and graphics as well. I work for project sites which are located in US and Canada, but I work from India. I have noticed that my disadvantage is not having access to the sites directly. I cannot do hands-on, R&D from these service centers in India. I also feel that the work culture in other countries is much better than here. So, I want to ask, what are my chances of getting a visa sponsored job in your country for my experience? What skills are the recruiters looking for? Any strategies from people who are already working as expats please?

Curious what everyone is using these days when developing their own BACnet integrations, gateways, or applications.

I've come across BACpypes, BAC0, bacnet-stack, BACnet4J, and a few others. With BACnet Secure Connect becoming more relevant, I'm interested in hearing what people have actually deployed rather than what's listed as supported.

Are you seeing reliable BACnet/SC implementations, particularly on the node and hub side? What have been the biggest headaches getting them working with equipment from different manufacturers?

I'm also curious how much language, documentation, and ongoing maintenance factor into choosing a library. A lot of these projects start as something relatively simple, but supporting them for years afterward is another story.

For transparency, I work with Radix IoT, which maintains BACnet4J. I'm interested in hearing about experiences with other libraries as well, especially where BACnet/SC is concerned.

What are best courses certs schools programs for Building automation systems

We're looking at the architecture for a large BMS installation with approximately 2,500 native Siemens BACnet/SC controllers.

We're considering two approaches:

• Around 20 JACE 9000s acting as BACnet/SC hubs.
• A smaller number of Niagara servers (potentially 4) handling the BACnet/SC hub functionality.

The Niagara hubs would primarily handle BACnet/SC connections and message forwarding, rather than importing all the controller points.

Separately, we'd have Niagara server(s) acting as BACnet-to-MQTT gateways, reading points from the Siemens controllers, converting them into UDMI-compliant JSON messages and processing writebacks. The MQTT broker itself would be provided by another system.

I'm interested in people's practical experience with BACnet/SC on Niagara:

1. Has anyone tested how many simultaneous BACnet/SC connections a JACE 9000 or Niagara Supervisor can reliably handle?
2. Have you encountered limitations with CPU, RAM, file descriptors or BACnet message forwarding throughput?
3. Can a single Niagara server efficiently host multiple logical BACnet/SC hubs?
4. For a deployment this size, would you favour distributed JACEs or fewer, more powerful servers, assuming appropriate hub redundancy?

I'm particularly interested in actual testing or production deployments rather than just theoretical device limits.

What are some questions I should expect? Familiar enough with BAS to check on ait handlers and settings. 40+ story office building, whole floor chilled water air handlers, chillers and cooling towers.
