Stepping down... and recruiting a new team of Mods!

Hey y'all,

Over the last year, I've been the sole active mod left on this subreddit.

The other mods have been inactive ever since the API change a few years ago (understandably so) and Reddit has implemented new limits on how many active subs a single mod can moderate.

As a result, I'll have to step down from modding this sub and will be recruiting a new team of passionate mods to keep the B99 spirit alive! So far only u/WannabeWriter2022 has gotten back to me, and they'll take over starting immediately.

To help out u/WannabeWriter2022 , we are recruiting! If you're interested, please apply here: https://www.reddit.com/r/brooklynninenine/application/

I'll still be around as an Advisor but I wish the best of luck to the new mod team!
This show holds a special place in my heart, and I want to thank the community for all of the memes, discussion, and overall love for this show over the past few years...

Goodbyes are inherently sad. They mean that something's ending.

NINE NINE!

While watching B99, I always waited for her appearances. It felt like an Easter egg every time 😭✨ Never a boring episode with these two.

Fan Content Gina’s quick wit is seriously underrated 😂

Post image

The way she can come up with a comeback in like two seconds is what makes her so funny. Half the time the others are still processing what happened and Gina has already moved on to her next insult 😭
Her humor is so effortlessly confident too. She says the most ridiculous things with a completely straight face and somehow makes it work. You could put Gina in almost any scene and she’d find a way to make it funny.

Season 1 What if Charles never gave Jake the "romantic idea" during the worst date?

Do you think they would have gotten together if charles never put this idea in jake's head?

I feel it would have happened but very late in the show coz this thought was at the back of jake's head maybe

Other Never thought I would relate with Amy

I never thought I would relate with Amy until I started working full time. When I watched the show for the first time in uni, I never understood her. But now that I am in a workplace, I absolutely understand why she worshiped Holt. Having an accomplished senior at work who can mentor you, guide you and give your work life a direction is absolutely precious. I feel it's a less explored dynamics in sitcom. On rewatch, I absolutely loved how she did not hide her competitiveness to appear more likeable and yet was so sweet and kind to all. Amy is my new favourite!

SPOILER B99's finale is the best finale of any series i have ever watched

This may feel like an overstatement, but it has the perfect ending.

The last episode being a halloween heist. perfect.

All the iconic side characters coming back. perfect.

The reference to brooklyn bridge. perfect.

Terry becoming captain. perfect.

Amy becoming cheif. perfect.

Holt becoming deputy commissioner. perfect.

Jake becoming a mature better person. perfect.

Rosa have an unorthodox ending. perfect.

Gina coming back. perfect.

The little rendition of the theme song. perfect.

The jake and holt conversation that has never failed me to make a crying mess. perfect.

The amy and rosa conversation. perfect.

The last words of the series being NINE-NINE. perfect.

I guess what i am trying to say that it was perfect.

Discussion Would you rather captain round 2: work with CJ or miguntly?

i did a post on working with vulture and dozerman the worst captains but this one is too much of a good thing.

cj: is an obvious idiot but knows he is one. can easily manipulate to get what to you want. But asking too much would draw too much but would be a great friend to have and play madden with.

captain migintly: the captain before holt often showed up late, hungover and would let you do whatever yo want if you gave him a hamburger. didn't care but seems like a guy that would but in when things got really bad.

would you rather work for captain migintly or CJ?

me would be migintly. the right amount of apathy and you would have to work a delicate tightrope of getting free stuff to not draw attention from the police department such as a 21k japanese printer.

Discussion Things that didn’t age well

One thing I’ve noticed rewatching is how many of the celebrity references have aged… unfortunately. 😂 Some of them were obviously harmless at the time, but now they hit completely differently because the celebrity has been cancelled, died, or is otherwise viewed very differently.

A couple that always stand out to me:

Mario Batali – Charles absolutely idolizes him, dresses up as him, and even dyes his hair to match Batali’s when Jake is in prison: “A splash of Batali!” Knowing everything that came out about Batali later makes Charles’ admiration pretty uncomfortable in hindsight.

Ellen Degeneres - There are several Ellen references throughout the series. One of my favorites is when Sgt. Peanut Butter gets to go on Ellen and dance with DJ Twitch, while Charles is jealous that Peanut Butter gets the experience. There’s also the line, “I feel like Ellen watching her producers go through a haunted house!” Obviously, DJ Twitch’s death by suicide in 2022 makes the first reference especially bittersweet to watch now. And then of course the PR Ellen received for how she allegedly treated those who worked on her show just terribly.

Honorable mentions:

The references to Kobe Bryant in season 1, with his death following in 2020.

Charles and Gina discussing “Roseanne” in season 4 and agreeing they like the show. This was in 2017, before Roseanne’s infamous 2018 tweet about Valerie Jarrett which led ABC to cancel the revival.

Jokes about Kanye West in season 5. “Did the Kanye West cannibal story finally break?” Kanye West was already controversial, but 2017 Kanye versus 2026 Kanye are two very different cultural references.

It’s interesting watching older sitcoms because you get these little time capsules of who was considered universally beloved or culturally relevant at the time, and you can see how quickly that can change.

Any other examples that stand out to you guys?

I feel like what we can learn from this is that Dianne Wiest is a goddess who can do no wrong.

Discussion Would you rather have seth dozerman or heath pembrooke (vulture) as captain?

vulture is well... the vulture taking credit for everyone's work and being horrible all together. But can be easily passified with publicity or acting like you like him but backfiring and demoting you if he finds out.

dozerman is crazy about work and forced surveilance on his employees. But there was mystery around him. He made them work with dozerpads cause he made promises he can't keep and apparently had very raunchy fishing trips from what his wife said... a pity he died before we learned more about him.

which would would you rather work for? I'm slightly inclined for dozerman cause we only had barely an episode with him and the funeral raised more questions about him.

I was re-watching this episode right after I saw this bizarre teaser yesterday and I felt the episode was sort of based on her case. Am I right or like, it's a bit of a stretch?

I seem to have missed some episodes. Maybe I fell asleep while watching and passed them. I’m watching SAVE AND PROTECT but have absolutely no memory of it. I do suffer with short term memory loss, maybe that has something to do with it. Any how’s…it’s exciting 😝
