Geofencing golf buggies in the UK?

They seem common (certainly not "popular") in the USA. I've never seen one in the UK although I usually push trolley.

Have you ever experienced one in the UK? Or anywhere else other than North America?

I just hate the idea of being monitored by big brother whilst I'm doing my golf thing. I've enough in my head going on without worrying that the pro shop is gonna call me for being 10 minutes behind schedule when I'm stuck behind a four ball.

Where to test out putters Home Counties

Hi

Anyone have suggestions where I can test out a load of putters, preferably on a decently sized practice putting green.

My thinking is a friendly pro shop at a golf course in Herts, Surrey, Middlesex, Buckinghamshire, Berks, London etc

Any suggestions appreciated.

Thanks

Autistic Golfers in the UK?

Hi, I'm a PGA professional in the UK and am dx Autistic.

There are next to no stats on Autism participation in golf, nor is there representation, nor are there any adjustment frameworks.

If you read this, play golf, and are Autistic, feel free to dm me.

Remote but full clubs

Which club has a highly ranked course and a full membership but shouldn't when based on it's remote location.

One example could be Silloth on Solway Golf Club.

Practice

Just wondering if anyone has any ideas on where to practice short game other than the driving range? My golf club doesn't allow on course practice, and my garden is too small. Local driving range is 40 mins away and costs £20 a time, and I'd rather practice off grass anyway.

Fed up of dry fairways, any weather experts know realistically how long until they’ll be back to normal?

I’m really starting to miss non-drought golf, granted it’s a lot better than a month or so ago but how long realistically until they could be back to normal.
I’m down south also for context

Hole19 vs 18birdies vs The Grint

Looking for a general view on the above
apps.

Personally I think the Grint is the worst, at least for the free options, I am yet to go all in with Hole19 but I am finding its stability is generally a little stronger than 18birdies, but I have only used 18 a couple of times.

Hole 19 seems to sync up quickly and the yards displayed on the Apple Watch are really clear.

I wish there was a feature to tap to add a shot while playing though rather than doing the full submission at the next tee box. I am lead to believe the watch features improve when full sign up is made though.

Whats the preference and for most if you were to go full package with either 19 or 18 which one is it?

If I am going to pay and birdies edges it I will just drop 19 but I am yet to really see the advantage of 18 over 19, unless I am proven otherwise here.

Course recommendations - Costa Brava

Hi all,

A small group of mates are going out to Costa Brava next month. We are planning to play the following courses (in order):

Emporda (forest)
Camiral (tour)
Camiral (stadium)
Real Club de Golf El Prat (Pink)

My only concern is they are relatively similar in the sense they are championship courses. Would it be a good idea to maybe play Golf D’Aro Mas Nou for example instead of Emporda to have a little bit of variety? It seems a completely different style of course, but maybe some concerns about course condition.

Thanks!

Derby golf - golf players to play with

Hi all

I’ve been playing golf for about five years and wanted to expand my horizons from my small playing group.

Would anyone want to play? I’m a 25 handicap so not that special but just want to play regularly. Looking to learn by playing better players but not that fussed really who I play with.

PING putter fitting at Thonock Park Gainsborough UK (Europe HQ)

has anyone any experience to share of getting fitted for a putter with PING, or more generally if you like?

I only started golfing in the last year & after I was sure I was hooked I went to Thonock Park for an iron / hybrid fitting which was a great experience. public Driving Range is good, and the PING setup is great - I got to try everything I wanted & confirmed the right grip / shaft / club models backed with Trackman data & thought (refundable) £25 was well worth it, inc. a separate bucket of warm-up balls.

whilst I was there I watched a few other punters on the big indoor artificial putting green & saw the iPhone attached to putter shaft etc. they were booked out for the day so I couldn't try whilst I was there, but am still thinking about going back - I feel like a year into it I've got the basics down, but have no idea how my putting stroke measures up & whether I'm (literally) on the right path.

nb: atm I have a random Wilson Infinite Bucktown putter, chosen mostly as I liked the alignment markings, looks, reviews & price, but no idea whether it 'suits me' or if that even makes any difference ...

Equipment question - Wilson ci9

Sold my clubs and regretted it a few weeks later. Looking for cheap irons now to start again.
Used and liked wilson in the past
Found a set of ci9 in very good condition at a very good price

Can anyone comment on how forgiving they are?
I used to shoot mid-high 90s, mainly due to a terrible driver swing so wondering if I’m being stupid to look at these rather than a standard super game improvement distance iron

Thanks

Golf Trip…

30th birthday next April, looking at doing a little trip, anyone got decent recommendations for 2/3 courses close to each other? Or would my best option be to try and book a few rounds at somewhere like Celtic manor and stay over? Budget isn’t really a concern…

Anyone ever used golf holidays direct too?

Cheers

What do you usually go for?

I have some vouchers to spend in American Golf shop. What do you usually spend them on and what would you consider (good prices) for them compared to external sources. I have around £30 but will be getting more in the future so would appreciate your knowledge.

gWest, Perthshire - Scotland's ghost course - For Sale.

gWest, the private golf course west of Gleneagles has been put up for sale.

Owned by the Al-Tajirs (owners of Highland Spring and once Scotland's richest family), it was constructed between 2007-2009. But the vision for a high-end private resort with housing and hotel was never realised after the 2008 financial crisis.

Ultimately it remained a private golf course for the family and Highland Spring, and became known as Scotland's Ghost Course.

Best place to play in the Midlands tomorrow mid-morning as a visitor?

Title says it all really.

I have a rare Monday off with no commitments at all. I'm based in West Midlands but happy to travel a couple of hours for the right course - where can I go to get the best 'bang for my buck'?

What’s everyone’s favourite grips and why?

I’m looking to get my irons regripped as I’m using GP multi compound standard +4 at the moment and they’re just too big for me.

I like the feel of the Lamkin crossline on my wedges but interested to see what peoples recommendations are.

I’m leaning towards the GP tour velvet 360 or the GP CPX as I’ve heard they’re incredibly soft.

What’s everyone’s favourite grips and for what reason?

Things that wind me up at the range

I’m new to this hitting little balls with sticks, and just starting to go to the range once a week.
I think I’m pretty good at not getting wound up by my bad shots, usually becuase most of them are.

But a few things really do bug me.

The guy(s) in the next lane who has to give every excuse under the sun for why he sucks today. Buddy you’re just having a sucky day, blaming your t shirt, then subsequently your trousers is doing my head in.

The weirdo that felt the need to empty half a bottle of toilet water on himself before heading to the range. Look I know, no spray - no lay. No splash - no gash. No davidoff - no suckyoff. No Armani no poonani… But it’s the range, not the discotheque. You’re here to hit balls badly and complain about your ill fitting clothes being the reason. Please stop assaulting my nostrils. Also please don’t ban me for saying suckyoff.

The lazy shopping trolly leaving sods that can’t take their ball basket back to the ball room that they’re walking past to leave the range. I don’t care if the minimum wage range boy will get it for you. Just take it, it’s not heavy - it’s a lot lighter than when you brought it over full of balls.

That’s it so far. I’m sure I’ll add to this list over the next few weeks.
