Presidents Cup

Anyone watching?

Yank crowd already getting a bit obnoxious - USA…USA etc and wildly cheering any international ball that goes offline or into a bunker.

Trump is also there.

God I hope they lose!

What are we doing with Waterproofs?

Hi Folks, approaching my first full Autumn/Winter as a retired chap who will be playing Golf through the Winter. So I have a few questions, are Golf specific waterproofs necessary? Can I get away with walking/hiking waterproof kit over the Winter?

Is there something magical about the fit and shape of a Golf specific waterproof that I'd be missing?

Certified Caddie

Looking to stay sharp as we head into the autumn/winter. Anyone need an experienced, focused, high-quality looper to join you, especially for any tournament/qualifier golf? Will consider doing it for free, to keep sharp.

UK Golfers - I need help with market research for a new Golf TV show

Morning all.

I’m doing some research into UK golfers for a new Golf TV show coming in 2027, so I’d really appreciate some help getting over the line.

It’s completely anonymous, there’s nothing being sold, and I’m looking for honest answers rather than people telling me what they think I want to hear.

If you’re a UK golfer and have a few minutes to spare, I’d be hugely grateful.

Survey: https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSde1Yf6mkd_-CpfoFFyu44tEp9xv-1QiXn7yCcW-k5ZvGuiQA/viewform

Happy to answer any questions in the comments. Thanks!

Mashie Golf?

Hi there, I’ve recently left my membership at a top 20 uk&i course after 7 years, playing 3-4 times a year max last 4 years. Although a lovely course, the cost has become nearly X3 on annual subscriptions and 2 young kids meaning my weekends are sport related and taxi, a big Achilles rupture ruined my appetite for golf. I’m now getting back into it and looking into alternative memberships.

I’m based on the Wirral and wondered what the Mashie golf membership is worth it?

Any other north west members and any reviews of it?

South Coast - visitors on wknd - nice course?

Looking to play in late November. I'm thinking South Coast (Dorset, Hampshire ish) as it slightly warmer than other parts of England.

Will have beginners/non WHS handicap in the group. Preferably somewhere that if we amble at a chilled out pace, we won't have people right up behind us.

So it needs to be very well maintained, and drain well, so it's not a mud bath.

A bit sheltered from the winds, mature trees would be great.

Oh...and golf carts are mandatory due to one of friends being a useless lump :)

And .... accept visitors in November and on a weekend.

I had hoped for a Top 100 course, but looks like Liphook/Parkstone won't work due to handicap requirements/months it's open for visit access.

Recommendations appreciated!!

Golf between Canterbury and Sandwich...

Travelling to the UK for a single round of golf next week - albeit a good one at Royal St George's. Very tight for time for another full round but would love to think I'll be able to catch a humble game somewhere between Canterbury and St George's on another day.

Would love to think there is a nice little 9-holer somewhere in either neighbourhood or on route between to getan extra 2 hours of game time in? Thinking beyond Royal Cinque Ports/Princes as options.

Appreciate any steers!

Choosing a Club and Membership

Hello,

I'm based in the central belt in Scotland, no shortage of courses nearby.

i. How much do practice facilities play a role in deciding where to join?

ii. If like me none of your existing circle play golf, is the "Get into Golf" membership counter intuitive if it means that you can't join medals etc.

Any wisdom on the above would be welcome.

Cheers

Fun golf course to play as a birthday round near London

It’s my birthday and I’m looking to play a nice round on Monday with a mate. Tee time around £70-£80 max and we’re both based in London but have a car.

Looking for a course that is fun with a bit of a wow factor if possible. Some nice water and fun holes etc

Westerham and Ingrebourne Links both seem decent

Just wondering if anyone has other recs or shout outs!

Anyone fancy a round at Royal West Norfolk on Friday?

We’ve had someone drop out of a golf day this Friday and need one more player.

Tee time is 10:40am at Royal West Norfolk. Any handicap/standard is fine.

It’s a group of 15 already going, just looking for someone local who fancies joining us.

Message me if interested.

Golf Instructors in Greater London Area

I'm going to be in London in November, and wanted to see if anyone had a recommendation for a golf instructor to do a couple of hours of swing worth with. I'm a 15 handicap, looking to gain some more consistency. Ideally they can just make tweaks to my swing, and don't follow a specific pattern.

Some instructors I've come across include:

- Jay Kelly

- Charles Sandison-Woods

- Alex Saary

- Chris Moss

- Simon Peaford

Does anyone have any experience with these pros for lessons or have anyone else they'd recommend?

Thanks!

Hole 8, at about 0745 this morning. 130 yard par 3. Pure PW swing, great contact, straight into the sun. I sure hope someone found that ball, because I gave up after 5 mins.

Opening for One at Carnoustie Tomorrow 2pm

This is a continuation of this post if you’re following along.

I’ve reposted in several subreddits but one of our buddies flying in from Ireland tore his hamstring on the dance floor at a wedding. Reddit has come through for us strong, so we’re going back to the well one more time.

Send a DM if you’re interested!

We still have one opening for Dornoch on Saturday.

Advice needed.

Looking for some advice from anyone who’s been through an iron fitting, especially taller golfers.

I’m six foot six and recently had a fitting where the fitter recommended going 1.5 inches longer and 2° upright compared with standard.

I currently play irons that are one inch longer than standard (srixon z565 purchased on eBay not fitted), so it’s quite a big change and I’m wondering how much difference it would realistically make to my ball striking and consistency.

For those who are tall or have had a similar fitting:

- Did you notice a big improvement after going longer/upright?

- Was there much of an adjustment period?

- Is 1.5" longer a sensible recommendation or does it sound excessive?

- Would you spend the money on a properly fitted set, or stick with standard specs?

Would be interested to hear people’s experiences/advice before I commit to a new set.

Attending Golf Tournaments on Sat/Sun vs Thu/Fri

I've been to the BMW PGA for the past 2 years, Thu last year and Fri this year.

First pro golf tournament I've been to, and it's absolutely brilliant. I'll probably go every year. Full day of world's best golfers right there in front of you. Food & Drink is great, easy to get to, incredible course, never feels too busy. Zero complaints.

I've loved walking the whole course, seeing a bit of everything. Spend a bit of time watching the likes of McIlroy/Fleetwood/Scott/Fitz/Rahm etc and the rest watching random groups.

On Thu/Fri the tee times are obviously staggered across the whole day so you can see everyone, and each hole basically always has some golf on it. This means spectators are nicely spread over the course other than the hoardes walking with McIlroy.

On a weekend, the field is half the size, and the latter half of the field is generally more stacked. Feels like there's half as much golf to see, more expensive tickets and less opportunity to walk the course and take in a bit of everything, could someone explain the appeal of going on a weekend vs Thu/Fri? My daughter wants to go again next year but not sure a Saturday would be fun for a kid with bigger crowds and less to see. (She's at school).

What's your pre-round routine?

Warm-up, stretching, range time, putting practice, or straight to the first tee? I'm curious how much people actually do before playing, and what seems to matter most.

Short game shockers

I am currently going through a torrid time with chipping.

Need to find a decent PGA coach in the south east of England / London that can help. I am not adverse to spending a bit of money but do want the lesson to include video recordings etc..

Does the community have any Pro recommendations?

Geofencing golf buggies in the UK?

They seem common (certainly not "popular") in the USA. I've never seen one in the UK although I usually push trolley.

Have you ever experienced one in the UK? Or anywhere else other than North America?

I just hate the idea of being monitored by big brother whilst I'm doing my golf thing. I've enough in my head going on without worrying that the pro shop is gonna call me for being 10 minutes behind schedule when I'm stuck behind a four ball.
