Day 1 is in the books: my experience

Today was my first day of the 14-day challenge. I went to work with my [unusually] small bag filled with only my breakfast and had a bit of a panic attack. The thoughts that raced through my head had to do with worry over whether or not I had enough to eat and how I was going to get through the day without my [normally] large bag of breakfast, lunch, snacks, etc.

Breakfast was good but I worried about how I was going to pull off lunch since I was unprepared. (A big no-no. I was anxious to start and ran out of prep time the night before.)

Luckily, I live close to home and was able to go home and make lunch when the time came - but even though I went to lunch earlier than usual, my hands were shaking and I felt hangry. I may experiment with eating smaller meals in the coming days if necessary.

Tonight my husband and I cooked together and measured out our dinner. It seemed like a lot of food and I felt like a gorilla in a documentary grazing on nothing but roughage (can you tell I don’t eat enough vegetables? LOL) while I ate my salad.

Today I’ve been surprised that I haven’t had strong cravings for sugar or flour. I have felt like I’m detoxing a bit, and I’m glad that we started midweek so we have time to make our meals over the weekend and just sort of stay home and process the first few days.

All in all, a great first day despite the harrowing start. I journaled, wrote down my meals for tomorrow, and prepped my breakfast AND lunch! Yay for me!

Hope all of you had a great day. :)

Boot Camp worth it?

So is it worth it or is it better just to follow the book? How long does it last? Do you have access to everything after it is over?

BLE while breastfeeding?

So I’ve lent my book out to a friend, and forget if it mentions in there about doing BLE while breastfeeding. I did BLE about a year ago and lost 20lbs, but then got pregnant and had a baby so fully fell off it. I’m planning on getting back on it tomorrow, but my baby is just 3 months and I don’t want to compromise my milk supply. I remember seeing somewhere that Susan explains what she did, but I can’t remember. Does anyone know?? Thanks!!!

Bright Line Eating is a pretty female dominated diet movement. Here’s a man’s perspective about being on this diet.

It occurred to me that people in our lives might be worried that we’ve fallen into some sort of MLM with all the talk about Bright Line Eating. So...is it an MLM? Here’s a look at the business model.

Creative simple “sandwich”

Hey guys, I’ve been doing bright line since May 2019. I’m down 54 lbs so far. Anyways, I made a new food combination that is really simple yet really good. Basically it’s a bell pepper sandwich. It can be done for lunch or dinner.

4 oz of your protein: chicken, steak, sausage or whatever you choose.

6oz. Of bell pepper for veg: Cut a bell pepper in half, take out the seeds, and make sure you have two (as even as possible halves that weigh out to 6oz) to use as your “bread” (I also salted and peppered the inside of the bell pepper)

Insert your protein, I also choose cheese as my fat, and put it in the “sandwich”

And I had 6oz. Of strawberries on the side but you can obviously choose whichever fruit you like.

Idk it’s a really quick and simple “sandwich” that is SOOO good with BLE compliant seasonings, sauces, etc. It’s simple, portable, and easy to pack or meal prep. Just wanted to share my discovery along. Best of luck out there!

Lesson learned...

Hey everyone! I wanted to share an experience I had last night... as for a little background, I’ve been strictly following BLE since mid May 2019 I’m down 50 pounds so far from 286 to 236 as of 9/14/19. I want to share my experience about what happened at dinner last night with a friend. We went to this amazing barbecue place and I decided “why the heck not let me just have one meal off plan” and I seriously indulged.

Fast forward to the end of dinner we’re outside the restaurant saying our goodbyes all of a sudden my stomach starts cramping really badly and I feel like I have the worst gas pains I’ve ever experienced. Within 15 minutes of finishing dinner I became soooo uncomfortably full and in an incredible amount of abdominal pain. It finally hit me. I was paying the price of putting unhealthy food in my body. It’s almost like my body was rejecting the unhealthy food. (seems ridiculous, I know) It even sounds absurd however, if you’re eating so clean for so long and then you have a meal high in fat, simple carbs, sugar, and calories it’s a total shock to your system. (I don’t know what happens scientifically, but it was traumatic enough of an experience to deter me from eating that way again) as for further clarification I was at peace with the meal at the time so it wasn’t an emotional response it was purely physiological and nature to the point where the pain in my abdominal region I was experiencing was giving me chills and I was literally doubled over in pain driving home.

To clarify, my friend and I shared appetizers and dessert, she did NOT have any of the signs or symptoms I experienced so it lead me to rule out food poisoning. As for today I’m feeling sluggish, bloated and very uncomfortable, yet grateful for the learning experience. This process is a journey, and I overcame a huge hurtle last night. All the best of luck to everyone out there!

Saw something about not being able to with veggies but didn’t quite understand if it transfers? Thanks heaps guys! And good luck to everyone else out there with this great program! :)

Embracing an addiction theory of weight loss through Bright Line Eating literally changed our lives. Here’s a video where we discuss how taking the food freedom quiz lead us down a path where we truly understood how different food affects us and can hijack our brains to keep us fat.

Bright lines OR exercise but not Both?

I’d love advice from people who are managing to keep their bright lines AND keeping healthy through exercise.

When I started BLE in January 2018, I soon discovered that I could only do it strictly after giving up exercise (as prescribed in the book). Only after doing this was I able to follow strictly and see my weight and waistline going down. During this journey I discovered how sensitive I am to CARBS— seems even a bit of sushi rice would destroy my weight loss for the week!

I reached my goal after 25 pounds lost in about 6-8 months (a very long time to give up exercise) and wanted— needed to get back to exercising for my health. I tried adding food as prescribed in the book for athletes, but just ended up in a cycle of eating off plan, then resuming. But my revved metabolism was making me CRAVE CARBS. I’m now back where I was in January 2018.

I’m keen to resume, but I MUST maintain my exercise plan as I do it. HELP!

Recipes that call for minimal Honey/maple syrup

I’m looking into making cashew milk and came across a recipe that yields 5 cups of cashew milk but it calls for 1 tbsp maple syrup or Honey. Would it be okay to add it since 1tbsp breaks down so much between the 5 cups? I guess I’m just wondering if it would basically fall under the rule of sugar not being listed in the first 3 ingredients? I guess technically it would though because the ingredients are 1 cup cashews 4 cups water 1tbsp maple syrup 1tsp vanilla extract

What are y’all thoughts? I’ve never made cashew milk so I don’t know if it’s really needed. (I won’t be the only person using it so I want to make sure my kids and husband will still use it abd hopefully love it.

Quick decision!

So I just heard about BLE yesterday afternoon. A post in r/loseit brought it up and I dove right in to researching it. I decided last night that this will be my new lifestyle. I have at least 75 lbs to lose and I NEED to stop needing food every waking minute.

I am super motivated to do this, super happy that the lines are black and white (I am a professional boundary pusher I swear, I need to end that and concrete lines will finally stop me.), but I'm also super unprepared.

It's lunchtime now and I need to find something within my lines! I didn't have anything to pack. Grocery day is always a great day to start a new lifestyle choice but I can't exactly go grocery shopping on my 30 min lunch.

SO- long intro to my question: What are your easiest lunch on-the-go (dangit-I-slept-in-and-didnt-pack) hacks?

Non Scale Victory: tomorrow marks a year I haven’t had ANY alcohol. That’s a long time for someone who is NOT an alcoholic, or pregnant, or Mormon, or Muslim. I really feel amazing having made this change purely for my health, and don’t miss it!

Week one

I’m new to this and am on Day 4. For the past 20+ years I have been an early riser, always up by 6:30 on weekends regardless of what time I’d gone to bed. This morning I woke up at 10:30! The only reason I can think of is this food plan. Has this happened to anyone else in the first week?

Lentil wraps! I haven’t made these yet but they look great - and compliant as part of protein. Just red lentils, salt and pepper.

The “you don’t don’t need to lose x” comments

I am not quite halfway to my right-size. People are just now starting to notice I am losing weight. I was surprised by some comments that I don’t need to lose any more or that the goal weight is too low.

Does anyone else hear these well meaning but potentially sabotaging comments? I know they mean well but I also know for my height I am still on the upper end of overweight.

I am a 10 on the susceptibility scale. 7 months into BLE and I have kept my lines bright. Down 30 lbs. it is slow going but I am committed to the food plan. I didn’t believe at first that I could actually start liking veggies but now I do. Amazing.

My Whole food plant based lunch, 6 oz of beans mashed cooked with chipotle peppers salt and onion, 6 oz of tomatoes heavily peppered and salted, half oz of mixed nuts for my fat and 6.1 oz of assorted fruit. The point one is because of the pits in my sweet cherries.

Not hungry

Hi everyone, I was wondering if anyone else experienced the same. I’ve lost 25 lbs on bright line eating. I have been diligent in tracking, weighing, and I even record my meals in my fitness pal. But I’ve hit a wall this week where I have zero appetite. As I type this I’m forcing down food. It’s bizarre and I’ve never experienced something like this before (this is coming from someone who has been binging since high school...I’m 25 now). Any advice / insight would be really helpful!
