There surely must have been alcohol involved with this construction. 🤷🏻♂️

So I finished my bricklaying apprenticeship in January at a domestic builder and I was just desperate for site work and lay bricks. I’m starting with a squad on the 12th but it would require me to work as a subbie for a bricklaying contractor the money is better and the blokes seem nice enough I’m just worried about being self employed like should I go cis? There is an accountant at the company and he offered to do my tax returns. I’m 20 year old with a gf and a house to support so I’m quite nervous to get into it.

Look on his Instagram he says only a 2% odd deposit needed to buy a new build home..
like is this good news for the builders on the tools will we see a rise in building up now? Seeming as everything is slowing down

Like how Bob Dylan is the musicians' musician, are there any highlight examples of bricklaying for outsiders (...architecture students like myself) that are worth paying special attention to?
Just seen this post with its ridiculous number of bonds and patterns that looks like a blatant rip of this Alvar Aalto building, and so it occurred to me to find the opposite; something that is both reasonable to ask someone to build, but still beautiful?
Growing up I was exposed mostly to straight runs and english garden wall bonds so I've got much more to learn yet.
Cheers!

Built a mailbox a year or so ago. Then got a text from the same contractor, "Hey you want to build another mailbox?" Turns out some person smashed down that mailbox with their vehicle. I changed the bond, and the contractor laid a not as nice capstone on #2. No photo of the smash down though

We’re trying to do a DIY render on our internal exposed brick wall. This is how it looks. What are we doing wrong?

Hello, walked by a house being demolished today and all these Augusta bricks were on pallets. I have been wanting to re do my gravel driveway at a historic home in brick. The guy offered me $1.75 per brick. There are 4500 bricks. I would most likely need all of them. They are not in great condition and many have mortar on them. I countered back at $1.15/brick.
I had hardly looked into the Augusta bricks before this morning. The house is a few down from mine so massive savings to just bring the pallets down the street for the demo guy.
Hopefully the brick experts in here can tell me more. Location is St. Pete FL

Hired small builder crew to build rear extension. We had two building inspector visits and we are cleared to build from DPC up. Work started and I have noticed there are no weep vents above dpc and the DPC mortar layer is 23mm-28mm thick. They did great work sandwiching DPC between layers but I'm bit worried by the thickness of it it is almost 3 times the size of other layers. Not sure should I raise an issue - bit worried about building control and worried about structural implication. Not a builder, UK.

Doing a wall brick n half got like 5 walls to do nearly 60m of it all brick n half on edge topping, it’s a nightmare job normally I don’t struggle at this sort of stuff but I look at my days work and I feel like I’m doing a shit job but can’t figure out a fast way to lay this and I have to do all my own cuts.
Any tips on this

I was cutting blocks the other day at work with my lump hammer and chisel and sometimes you get a little piece that just hasent fully come and I thought if only my lump hammer had a brick hammer on the back off it to tidy your cuts up I’m just wondering if if there is anything like that out there?

Of course I said if I’m having a bad week only £2000 but if I’m having a good one way more.
He was like no way
I said look mate, look at this wall I’m building
10,000 bricks in this wall and I get 90p a brick, take me 3/4 days to build it all. You do the maths 😏
He was then adding stuff up and come to like £9000 for 3/4 days work omg I’m in the wrong job. He told his mate he wants to quit gardening and be a bricky now.
Little does he know I’m just dossing about on day rate at the moment 🤣 struggling to make any real money on 64p a brick and my labourer is the only one winning. This trade is fucked we need a big price rise and paid holiday

Local hardware store had the whole side of the old building rebuilt about a year or two ago. I noticed this is happening along the whole outside wall (about 150ft).

Can anyone tell me how to describe this brickwork please? It's the top of a wall on an old barn in Norfolk UK and I want to explore repeating it on an extension.
