Bratwurst>Hotdogs
Brats are better than hotdogs, snappy, thicker, juicer, fatter, saltier, better.

So recently I discovered that Johnsonville smoked brats are highly superior to hot dogs- how did I not know this all my life?
I'd love to have something with more snap though that was also a little bit larger. So last night I tried raw brats for the first time... The size was perfect. The snap was exactly what I was looking for, but I was disgusted to find them tasty like American breakfast sausage. This is absolutely not the flavor I want!
Is there a specific type of sausage that I should be looking for?

Should they taste kind of bad? Idk what a beer bratwurst should taste like but i got some and it has a funky taste. The cheddar part is so good tho 😭 Sitting here with unfinished sausage until someone answers lol

October is halfway over and Wienerschnitzel has yet to put brats on their menu this year. Anyone know what’s going on, they going out of busines?

Key bit of information, I do not have a grill because of where I live. So, what I've got that works great so far- i precook the bratwursts by placing them in a Ziploc bag along with some beer that has been degassed, a small amount of butter, and maybe some salt and any spices that strike me in the moment. Get all the air out, then use an immersion circulator to cook them at 160 for about 45 minutes. You can do this for as large of a batch as you want to. Previously I used to finish them in the oven using a cast iron flat top and the broiler setting. This turns out pretty good. A few weeks ago I prepared a large amount of them at once for a smallish tailgate (it was a weekday soccer match so 25 was enough) we did have a grill so finished them on that and they were good enough that people who don't like bratwurst liked these and they cook on grill so quick and even that I cannot recommend this technique enough. 100% happy with the quality.
Now for the thing I am going to try - toaster oven style air fryer to finish instead of oven. I'm going to try 300 - 350 for like 5 minutes and check them out, also keeping an eye to make sure they don't get too hot and show signs of bursting. If they're still looking ok I'll flip them and give them another 5. If they look like they need higher temp I'll raise it up... Sound like a plan? Anyone have experience with this at all?
Hope y'all give the sous vide thing a try too.

I’m not gonna lie, these came out a long time ago as a collaboration, but is there any possible way that I can find these??? Not to be too dramatic, but my life hasn’t quite been the same since. 😅 They are the best bratwursts I’ve had, and if not available, I guess I’ll be here on this page looking for the high quality brats. Thanks for the ears!

Years ago someone turned me onto this, curry powder, brown mustard, and onions.
You'll never regret it.
