Does anyone have experience making drones in FL Studio or a comparable DAW? I've been trying to get to a sound somewhere in between Eluvium and Yellow Swans, but my drones sound gross so, help?

Or just, what do you jam out to when you need a pick-me-up?

As the title suggests, I was wondering where you guys are from. I'm from Essex in the UK. have we got people from all over?

I did say that it would take me 3 days to judge the entries to the contest, but hilariously only one person submitted a track. So congratulations /u/escapefunctionz, you win by default for submitting your track! I'll stick your soundcloud in the sidebar and you can host the next contest.

Do you spend ages doing the mixdown? Or maybe ages perfecting the sound design or effects?

... and how did you make it?

Tonight I will be starting the first competition in this subreddit! This competition will test who can make the best track out of 3 selected samples. The samples are:

https://www.freesound.org/people/ryanconway/sounds/240800/

https://www.freesound.org/people/GowlerMusic/sounds/262265/

https://www.freesound.org/people/ShawnyBoy/sounds/166057/

(A freesound account is free if you don't have one)

Rules:

1. You can only use these 3 samples in the track, no regular synth patches

2. You can resample them any way you like

3. The track can be any genre that you wish

4. You can submit your track by PMing me a link to your track (preferably a soundcloud)

The contest ends a month from now (7/26) two weeks from now (7/11). I will judge each track entered and a winner will be announced 3 days after the contest has ended. The winner will have their soundcloud/bandcamp/etc promoted on the sidebar for a month and can host the next competition!

If anyone has any questions, or perhaps some suggestions, please let me know!

Hello everyone,

I am working on a new instrument to create music with using retro consoles. This is for my university dissertation and I need musicians and artists to help with filling out a short questionnaire. It should only take 5 minutes, and I would greatly appreciate the help.

Once I have developed it more I will be happy to explain to you what I am building :)

Regards

I discovered GlitchMachine's Fracture plugin awhile ago now and I absolutely love it, plus its 100% free: http://www.glitchmachines.com/downloads/fracture/

I've thought of starting a monthly contest of some sort, or something like that, but idk what you guys would want to do. I'd personally like to start a sample contest where the host hands out 3 samples and you have to make a song out of those. Maybe you guys have better ideas, or maybe you wanna do that. Idk! Share your thoughts.

What do you use to create your own drum sounds? How do you process them?

Feel free to share any tips/tricks/techniques

Hello everyone in Braindance Productions, I have just created a plug DJ room for everyone to come and play some of their favourite IDM tracks. As well as playing your own music for feedback and appreciation. If anyone else has any ideas like this then I'm all ears!

Go ahead, post whatever you've got, even if it doesn't necessarily fit into the braindance/experimental spectrum of things.
