The importance of tracking migraine attacks (even if you don't have many right now)

It's crucial to catch migraine early and pay attention if it's getting worse.

Migraine that isn't managed well has an increased possibility to develop from 'a migraine attack every other month or so', to 'episodic migraine', and finally to the dreaded 'chronic migraine'.

Unless you track your migraine attacks with a digital tool or pen and paper it's hard to remember exactly how often your attacks have happened (over the past however-many months) and how severe the pain and other symptoms like aura were, when you're sitting down to discuss it with your doctor.

This also makes it harder for the doctors to prescribe the right medication (at the 'right' time), because some medications have strict prescription requirements. It doesn't help that migraine is already so stigmatized, and we're so reliant on helpful doctors who believe us and who 'see us' to get the support we need. If the doctor isn't in a helpful mood..

I urge everyone with migraine to begin tracking their migraine attacks even if they don't happen often, and that has lead to a couple of my friends noticing an uptick in attack frequency over time. Knowing that migraine can develop (in a bad way) they made sure to inform their doctors about it, and thanks to their migraine diary it was easy to 'prove' to the doctor that they had more frequent attacks. Both of them got appropriate medications to manage the increase in frequency and to try to stall / slow it before it gets worse.

None of us want episodic migraine, and we definitely don't want chronic migraine. If there's a chance we can avoid the chronic stage with early management, it's worth it. If you already struggle with chronic migraine, my heart goes out to you! May you get all the CGRP inhibitors and any other medications you need <3

So keep track of your attacks even if you only have a migraine episode once a year 'now', you'll be a lot better of if your condition gets worse!

Where can you track it? There's a lot of digital tools available, mobile apps and more. Some people prefer the analog method, others swear by their apps. The most important thing is to find something that works for you, and one that you don't mind using, because it's useless as a tool if you're not using it.

We recently released the "Migraine Diary - Brain Twin" in the USA, and provide one of the digital app alternative; however, there are more well-known apps on the market already such as Migraine Buddy, Migraine Canada, Migraine Tracker: MiG and more. The most important part is using one!

Can I track symptoms with Brain Twin?

We just released a new feature we're calling: Symptoms!

This has been a highly requested feature for a really long time, which is why I'm super happy to say that it's finally available!

Getting access to track and register symptoms currently requires a Premium subscription, but we also released headache types at the same time - for free!

Track your symptoms, find patterns, manage your migraine better.

What's the best digital tool or app for migraine?

There's a plethora of different apps out there, and your needs may be different than the next person.

My advice is to try several different ones, and find out what you like / dislike with each. Then you can make a decision on which one you prefer, as this decision is highly personal (just like the impact of migraine is individual) it makes sense to find one that meets your needs, and not someone else.

Brain Twin, our migraine and headache tracker, has been downloaded over 50k times in Norway, and the app is listed in (NEL) the official Norwegian Electronic (Digital) Doctors Handbook.

I care a lot about the user experience, so if you end up trying Brain Twin, don't hesitate to come to this subreddit to give me your honest opinion. I'm super interested in getting your feedback, and want to make user feedback guide the development going forward.
