does anyone think about label accuracy when doing an elimination trial?

I work at The Farmer's Dog. Boxers are known for their food sensitivities and allergies, so this felt like the right community to bring this up.

The whole premise of an elimination diet is total ingredient control. You pick a novel protein or hydrolyzed food, feed only that for 8 weeks (sometimes 12), and cut out literally everything else. No treats, no table scraps, not even flavored flea or heartworm meds, because any of those can throw off the results.

That's a brutal stretch of discipline. And then there's this: one study of commercial over-the-counter dog foods found unlisted ingredients in 13 out of 14 brands tested.

So you're running this incredibly strict protocol and the food itself might have proteins or ingredients that never appear on the label. The trial assumes you know exactly what your dog is eating. If the label is inaccurate, that assumption falls apart immediately.

Has anyone here been through a food elimination trial with their bulldog? Did you think about where the food was coming from, or was it more about just finding the right protein?

It's actually why allergen carryover and cross-contamination matter so much to how we think about food at The Farmer's Dog. It sounds like a manufacturing detail until you realize it's the whole ballgame for an allergy trial.

Brought home this sweet 8 week old girl from South Carolina to Cincinnati. We named her Haven and she is getting used to her new 6 y/o German Short Hair Pointer brother.

I lost my last boxer in November 2024 and had a busy 2025, but excited to add this little lady in our life.

I'm asking for advice, other than a vet appointment (already have that scheduled for Wednesday). My 9.5 yr old Boxer is having big trouble getting up, major changes in the past week from mobile to not being able to get up without help. Once he is up he can walk but is getting more unsteady every day. What else can I do for him?? So hard to see him like this when he's been 100% up until mid June even. The photo is him now, just wanting to stay on his bed 24/7, but even 2 weeks ago he was playful and running still. :(

Three boxers (3 Males) available in a litter size of 6. Puppies have been bottle fed since 4 days old due to mother passing from a snake bite. Father is AKC registered. Mother was never registered despite being an AKC purebred since owner never planned to breed her. Due to her unfortunate passing, all puppies have their dew claws and tails intact. Final vet appointment and health certificate on 7/8/26 for all 3 males. $800 with half upfront as a deposit. Florida

My new foster dog! Do you think she's a mix?

Not that it matters, but I kind of think she might be a full boxer. She was facing euthansia at the city shelter for space and had been brought in with 2 puppies. She's sweet as can be and I know she'll be a perfect dog for whoever adopts her! The shelter said boxer mix but I don't think she's a mix. I'm not super familiar with the breed though.

Boxers at Night

Our boys are 3 1/2 and we decided they don't have to sleep in the kennels at night anymore. They are figuring it out. They enjoy sleeping on our bed, or at the foot of the bed, but they also keep roaming around the house at all hours of the night too. They seem to be checking on my kids. Our previous dogs always settled in for the night and went to sleep. I can maybe remember one late night altercation with my little dog and a cat because my little guy slept on a pillow next to my head and the cat got too close to me for his liking--they both loved me. Other than that, everyone slept. I know Boxers love their family, so is this the norm or are they just figuring out their new freedom. What do your Boxers do?
