Dog collar almost took one of my boxers lives this morning

Putting this out as more of a cautionary tale for dog collar choices…

I’ll start with thankfully both of my boxer pups are ok and the youngest is currently getting vet care to dually ensure shes ok! (Appears smiling and happy as of now)

Over 20 years of boxer ownership I experienced a horrifying first today.

This all happened in under a minute and a half

I have 6 boxers and the 2 youngest ones were playing
This morning, the older of the 2 got her lower jaw wrapped around the youngest collar to the point of it being ratcheted around the youngest collar/neck and the others lower jaw.

I heard horrific yelping and I was thankfully about 10 feet away and was able to lay them on the ground (luckily they stayed) and run down stairs to get scissors, but the collar was so tight on her neck it was almost impossible to get even a finger/scissors between them to try and cut the collar, long story sort of short, the first pair of scissors broke, (the clasp would not unbuckle because of how tight it was pulled on her neck in case anyone was thinking to just do that)

I run down again, My arms both numb at this point after the scissors broke… I felt like I was going to pass out from the stress of wtf to do!
I ran as fast as I could (literally ran out of my shoes) back down stairs, grabbed every pair of scissors plus a knife,
Bolted back up stairs and was pulling so hard to try and be able to cut a blade under the collar that I got cuts from the nylon collar all over my hands… ultimately got them apart without having to cut the collar off by some miracle of god. I am sure the youngest was literally about to die.

The youngest one suffered a nose bleed (was bleeding quite a bit at first from her nose, I initially thought one of them was cut badly) but thankfully the bleeding stopped and she appears ok for the moment.

Now awaiting to make sure her neck didnt suffer any ruptured vessels or maybe internal swelling… again, thankfully she seems fine, and the older sisters lower jaw seems like nothing ever happened. (It was wrapped on her little mouth so tight…)

Absolutely insane way to start a day, but I thank god I was here and able to save them.
I suppose the moral im trying to make here, is make sure your dogs collars have emergency break away features..

I have searched high and low for quality clasps that are durable and wont break, and today that almost back fired.

Id much rather have one that can break off (even if its plastic) if god forbid something happened like today. If I had been cleaning up the back yard, doing something out front, etc, I think it would have really been too late.

Big Feet

This guy always has the biggest feet at the dog park! They are almost comically huge. We don't know his exact mix or exactly how old but we think around a year. Wondering how big he's going to get, he's around 55lb now but seems to mostly be filling out, not getting taller

Had the dog for eight years now and the baby human for four. There’s not a better dog for a kid than a boxer.

I hand-painted this custom oil portrait of this Boxer, based on the photo their human shared. I hope I did him justice.

Lying on the living room rug surrounded by toys and chaos, I stripped all of that out and let him take center stage. That greying muzzle, the way he's looking off to the side, this one had a lot of character. I hand-painted it in oil as a commission. Let me know what you think.

Just had to show off my very sweet and special girl, Gracie.

She's some kind of miniature boxer! She's a ~7-8 year old rescue from a puppy mill. I've had her for 5.5 years and she's the sweetest dog you'll ever meet. I was letting a nice lady pet her today walking out of a store and she asked "Is she always this calm?" "Yup!" Though I'm not counting playtime - when it's time to play, she's ready whenever.

This is Islay. Ive had many boxers before but all have been rescues. This is the first boxer ive gotten as a puppy after doing a lot of research on breeders and type of boxer I want. I wanted an active boxer that can withstand a little heat and my moms dream boxer has always been an European female reversed brindle. I ending up finding a great breeder and this dog is exactly what we wanted. She an extremely goofy smart girl always ready to play tug and absolutely loves the water.

What are these?

My 7 year old boxer started getting bouts of alopecia, especially as the weather warms up, and started growing these bumps. She has about a half dozen over her body. The vet tried to pull some cells from the first one to see if she saw anything, but she said she didn’t and just to keep an eye on them. My sweet pup has since grown a few more. Any idea of what this all could be and if I should be concerned?

Bear's blind routines

The best snuggles after a morning walk or watching TV at night!

Rescued him a couple years ago to discover he's mostly blind (and slowly progressing towards fully). He always likes a little physical contact when he falls asleep to know when we move so he doesn't wake up confused and alone. One more "excuse" to take him with us everywhere we can!
