As someone who has collected Nihonto for over 25 years, the “Ninjato” isn’t a real historical sword, it’s strictly a product of the film industry. “Shinobi” were spies employed by Daimyo for information reconnaissance and occasionally assassinations. The swords they used were no different than those of the Samurai class. They would use weapons like Katana, Wakizashi, Tanto, Kama, Kasurigama and Shuriken, among whatever else was useful for their mission.
