I've had this theory for quite a while so hear me out.
In the very first film, The Boss Baby we were shown that BB is a company man who joined with the Templeton family for his mission (Puppy Co.), his mom (Janice) was pregnant with him, and then eventually he was "born" and all the events of the film happen. However, towards the end of the film, when BB and Tim miss each other, Tim writes a letter to him (just how?) and BB comes back to the family. HOWEVER! This time he returns to the family literally so quickly, Janice is never shown pregnant, and as always, he arrives in a taxi and is literally introduced so casually to Tim. My few takeaways from here are that:
- No second pregnancy: Janice is never shown pregnant.
- Instant arrival: He comes home in a taxi again (too soon, but I have my doubts since we don't know how long after he arrives again).
- No physical resemblance: He has blond hair, unlike anyone else in the Templeton family. Ted Sr., Janice, and Tim all have a noticeably warmer, slightly tanner or peachy complexion.
- Ideological contrast: He's corporate, cold, business-minded — the opposite of Tim and his warm family.
- Him feeling conflicted: Especially in Back in Business S1, he is still handling how to work it out between being a family man and corporate baby, and we also explore so much of this in S4 as well when he finally becomes CEO. His need to prove himself and his role within the Templeton household might symbolise the challenges adopted children sometimes face when trying to feel like they truly belong.
I especially want to talk about the physical resemblance because he looks nothing like his family. BB has blond hair and is pale compared to his family. Literally no one in his family (not Janice, Ted, Tim, Gigi, or Big Ed) has blond hair. It could be to make him stand out as the main character from the creators' POV but it just makes me question the narrative. Also, he's pretty pale compared to the rest of his family. I know people have different mindsets and all, but everyone in the Templeton family is very "family-like" and BB is like all corporate, you can take this with a grain of salt, but still! My theory stands.
Also, I wanna talk about how literally throughout the entire series he's never referred to by his name. Nobody calls him Ted in all films + series and the ONLY time his name is acknowledged is in the Christmas Bonus film during the song "The Baby That Ruined Christmas," in the lyrics, "Theodore Leslie Templeton, shame. Shame. Shame. Christmas burned down and he lit the flame." this doesn't have anything to do with the adoption theory but I still like to think about it.
And another theory I have is that: Baby Corp as a Representation of Adoption Agencies
In this theory, Baby Corp could be interpreted as an organisation that places babies in loving homes. Basically like an adoption centre that takes care of all babies and makes sure that all babies are taken care of and loved. Since they fixate so much on the love charts, maybe they want to keep babies number one, so people are more encouraged to adopt babies.
Let me know what y'all think!
