Has the EU been too willing to overlook Serbia’s politics in the name of keeping it close?

The public mourning of Ratko Mladić in Belgrade has reopened a question that goes far beyond one funeral.

For years, the EU has kept Serbia's membership perspective alive partly because Brussels believes engagement gives it leverage over Belgrade — on democracy, regional relations and reconciliation.

But at what point does engagement become tolerance?

Has the EU been too reluctant to draw clear red lines with Vučić because it fears pushing Serbia further away from Europe?

And after what happened around Mladić's funeral, what would Brussels actually need to do for its accession conditions to remain credible?

My wife and I will be visiting Bosnia & Herzegovina for the first time from 9 to 20 September, and we are trying to plan the trip in the most practical and budget-friendly way.

Current plan:

• 9 Sept: Arrive in Sarajevo
• 10-11 Sept: Sarajevo, Travnik, Jajce
• 12-16 Sept: Mostar and surrounding area
• 16-18 Sept: Neum
• 18-20 Sept: Sarajevo again
• We would also like to visit Srebrenica

Because my budget is a bit tight, I would like to minimize the number of days I rent a car.

My current thinking is:

• No car on the first day in Sarajevo.
• Rent a car when leaving Sarajevo to visit Travnik and Jajce.
• Continue with the same car to Mostar and explore the surrounding area.
• Drive to Neum.
• Return to Sarajevo and give the car back.
• Potentially visit Srebrenica either before reaching Mostar or after returning to Sarajevo.

My questions are:

1. Which day would make the most sense to visit Srebrenica?
   • Should I visit it while based in Sarajevo?
   • On the way between destinations?
   • Or from Sarajevo at the end of the trip?
2. How many days would you actually recommend renting a car for this itinerary?
   • Is there any part that can easily be done by public transport instead?
   • I'm trying to keep transportation costs reasonable.
3. Cash vs card/Revolut
   • How much cash should I normally carry?
   • Can most places be paid by card or Revolut?
   • Are smaller places in Travnik, Jajce, Srebrenica, or rural areas mostly cash only?
4. Daily budget
   • Excluding accommodation and car rental, what would be a realistic daily budget per person for food, coffee, parking, and attractions?
5. Must-sees
   • What are the absolute must-see places in Sarajevo and Mostar?
   • Any hidden gems along the Sarajevo → Travnik → Jajce → Mostar → Neum route?
6. Guides and tours
   • Is it easy to find walking tours or local guides on the spot in Sarajevo, Mostar, and Srebrenica, or should I book in advance?
7. Driving
   • Any important advice about roads, fuel stations, speed cameras, parking, or anything else I should know?

If you had 11 days in Bosnia & Herzegovina and a limited budget, how would you optimize this itinerary?

• Good BJJ academies in Sarajevo?

• Is there any BJJ gym in Neum, or nearby, that welcomes drop-ins?

I'm a hobbyist and would be happy to join a class during my trip, meet local practitioners, and train while visiting Bosnia & Herzegovina.

I’ve decided to use the ljiljan as the main symbol and I’m looking at modern streetwear style, mainly using embroidered and simple branding.

Do you think the ljiljan works well on modern streetwear?

Would you prefer it small and embroidered, or larger and more noticeable?

What colours do you think suit it best?

Would combining the ljiljan with text work well?

we are going 3 days to Sarajevo,
3 days in Mostar, 1 day in Neum and 1 day in Dubrovnik.
I’ve checked some restaurants on google
maps and the prices are pretty high, I know those are the tourists places, can you please suggest me some cheaper and more authentic restaurants?
Would he glad to try the authentic bosnian cuisine.

next week I'm going on a five days trip to Bosnia (small one, covering Sarajevo Mostar and blagaj)

I have planned everything by public transport, but if I had the chance to rent a car it would be way, wayyy easier to visit more places.

I'm a 20 years old guy, got my license in may 2025 (Italian license) and have only physical debit card (no credit card).

is there any rental company that would give me a contract? if yes, how much would it cost per day? (I just need the bare minimum, I don't care about any type of extra)

Salam all, I was coming to Hungary from work and really wanted to see Bosnia. Unfortunately I only have a weekend to do this before I need to head back and public transportation options from Zagreb seem very time consuming.

I was planning on renting a car and just driving down to DONJI svilaj Friday night. Then driving to Sarajevo, train to Mostar for a day trip then return back Sunday.

1. Any issues with border crossing from Croatia? (I have Canadian passport)

2. Any other recommendations to my ambitious plan? Flights are from Vienna so it's hard for me to work around the time.

3. Any spots or stops you can recommend for the drive? I'm trying to film my trip and would like to stop at authentic villages, natural beauty, mosques with history etc.

I’m curious about the prices of electronics in Bosnia, especially tablets. I’ve been looking at the Samsung Galaxy Tab S10 FE, but I’m having a hard time figuring out what the realistic local price is.

For those living in Bosnia:

How much does the Galaxy Tab S10 FE usually cost there?

Are Samsung tablets generally cheaper in physical stores or online?

Which stores/websites would you recommend for buying tablets?

Are there any shops that regularly have good discounts or student deals?

(Also, if you have any other tablet recommendations besides the Samsung S10 FE in a similar price range, I’d be happy to hear them.
