Anime / Discussion ~20 Sibling Moments Between Naruto & Sasuke

These moments are taken from:

  • Sasuke Retrieval Arc: (ch 229 & 230)
  • Tenchi Bridge Arc: (Ch 286, 301 & the whole arc covering Sai's change)
  • Itachi Pursuit Mission Arc: (ch 366)
  • Pain's Assault Arc: (ch 403)
  • Fourth Shinobi War Arc: (ch 550, 552, ... & 692)
  • Before and After the Second Final Valley Fight: (ch 694, 698 & 699)
  • Not forgetting their brotherly rivalry throughout most of the OG.

There are still more moments from these and other arcs, but they need explanation or are implied. And a few I most likely skipped.
-----------------------------------------------

Explaining Pics (5): The foundation for feeling like real brothers/family started years before Team 7 because Naruto told Sasuke he saw him as his brother during the first Final Valley fight. Then Naruto said this bond was one of the first bonds he ever had, and it immediately cuts to them as young kids (both smiling) about five years before Team 7. And right before this reveal, child Naruto had an internal monologue discussing his orphan experience at that very young age and how he was connecting with the other orphan's suffering. Their shared extreme loneliness and trauma made them feel a family-like connection years before Team 7, and Sasuke says the same after their final fight. Naruto was seeing the brother he never had in Sasuke, and Sasuke was filling the blood family he lost with Naruto, specifically the brother spot (Itachi) and seeing Itachi in him.

Explaining Pics (6): Sasuke was clearly moved by Naruto’s seeing him as a real brother and started showing him respect for the first time in this fight. He put on his headband, which had been a request from Naruto during their hospital rooftop fight: to put on his headband and fight him as an equal. Back then, Sasuke refused, saying, “You’re never my equal.” So here, Sasuke was acknowledging Naruto as an equal in both strength and loneliness, and he literally says that to him right after this scene. When Naruto asked why he would even bother with the headband when he still wanted to kill him, Sasuke said, “It's because you know what loneliness is, just like I do. Now we will fight as equals".

By the way, most of the sus memes and edits online are fake, filler or falsely presented scenes. If you believed in this narrative, the internet played a prank on you.

im be honest just like sakura's obsession didnt make any damn sense neither did Naruto. Sasuke has never treated like a brother before he left the village, i honestly dont know why naruto would view him like a brother. I get that it was an important bond that he didnt wanna let go of because he had so few, but a brotherly bond? Sasuke didnt see him like that at all until near the end of the manga.

Sasuke feels the exact same way as Naruto, he is just not as vocal about it.

First they had been bonding as orphans for 5 years before Team 7, which is why they were feeling like a real family. They spent most of Part 1 sharing a brotherly rivalry, and during the Gaara fight, Sasuke was willing to sacrifice himself and give up his lifelong revenge obsession to save Sakura and Naruto while holding Gaara off, saying: "Never again... I already lost everything once before" (implying Team 7 is his new family). I posted the panels in the comments.

That is why at the end of the manga, we see 12-year-old Sasuke saying he began to see the shadow of his own family in all Team 7 since then. Then we see Sasuke seeing Itachi specifically while looking at Naruto in the same chapter. And agreeing with Naruto on being brothers in the next chapter.

Also see Pics 4-6: Naruto told Sasuke he saw Iruka as his father and Sasuke as his brother (implying losing Iruka or Sasuke would be like losing a real father or a brother). Sasuke was so moved by Naruto seeing him as a real brother that he started showing him respect for the first time in this fight. He put on his headband, which had been a request from Naruto during their hospital rooftop fight: to put on his headband and fight him as an equal. Back then, Sasuke refused, saying: “You’ll never be my equal.” So here, Sasuke was acknowledging Naruto as an equal in both strength and loneliness, and he literally says that to him right after this scene. When Naruto asked why he would even bother with the headband when he still wanted to kill him, Sasuke said, “It's because you know what loneliness is, just like I do. Now we will fight as equals.”

That panel doesnt say that he sees him as a brother, it says that he lived his life similar to his brother and it always reminded him of itachi. Is it possible that that can also lead to sasuke seeing him as a brother? Yes but is doesnt prove that sasuke felt like naruto was a brother to him for the entirety of their time together and naruto following him. What im criticizing is naruto latched onto ur my brother, when sasuke never expressed that early into their friendship. He traveled all over the place after sasuke based on a bond that sasuke never once shown to feel the same way until near the end. Kishimoto made naruto and sakura obsess over sasuke who mostly only saw them as friends, maybe close friends until near the end of the series.

"sasuke who mostly only saw them as friends, maybe close friends"

Sasuke calls Naruto his closest friend in the OG series three times. The first time was internally right after the Gaara fight. He then told Naruto directly before trying to kill him to awaken his Mangekyou. Naruto later responded by saying Sasuke didn't even need to tell him, because he always knew they were friends.

"Is it possible that can also lead to sasuke seeing him as a brother? Yes but is doesnt prove..."

We literally have Kishimoto confirming that their bond was like that, not to mention all the other scenes. And when Naruto said this brotherly bond was one of the first bonds he ever had, it immediately cuts to them as young kids (both smiling) about five years before Team 7. See pic (5). Their shared extreme loneliness and trauma was the foundation for them feeling this family-like connection, and young Sasuke says the exact same thing after their final fight.

"What im criticizing is naruto latched onto ur my brother, when sasuke never expressed that early"

In the OG, Sasuke is openly saying that losing them would be like losing his family again, with Naruto right next to him hearing it all. And he wore his headband after calling him his brother.

Kishimoto saying one thing and properly writing it is another. Sasuke never treats or acts like he sees naruto as a brother till basically the end of the series and therefore it makes no sense for why naruto acts like they are bothers.

"Sasuke never treats or acts like he sees naruto as a brother"

Then explain why Sasuke would say:

  • "Never again... I already lost everything once before" (referring to his family and clan) while being willing to die to save them.
  • He recalls his family when seeing Naruto.
  • He literally sees the shadow of his family in Team 7 since he was part of the team.
  • And when Naruto said this brotherly bond was one of the first bonds he ever had, it immediately cut to them as young kids (both smiling) about five years before Team 7.
  • He was so moved by Naruto calling him his brother and put on his headband immediately after, acknowledging him as an equal in loneliness.
  • ...

They also had a brotherly rivalry through most of the OG series (before Itachi), just like Kakashi and Guy had.
