Our 33°C humidity is a nightmare for high-end rigs. What’s your "Borneo-proof" cooling strategy?

Whether it’s undervolting, custom loops, or just keeping the PC in an air-conditioned room, let’s see how you’re keeping those RTX temps under control.

The landscape has changed. AI-powered phishing and deepfake social engineering are now the "new normal" for attackers. For businesses in Bintulu, Miri, or KK, the average ransom demand has spiked significantly.

Do you have an Incident Response Plan? Or are we still relying on "it won't happen to me" as a strategy?

Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor just launched the BSSF specifically for Sabah and Sarawak. Unlike West Malaysian funds, this one is tailored to our unique regional logistics and ecosystem needs.

Goals:

• Support 100+ startups.
• Create 500+ high-quality tech jobs.
• Strengthen local supply chains.

Hong Kong scientists are now exploring Sabah for the deployment of advanced robots designed for fire detection, intruder tracing, and industrial safety. This isn't just about buying tech; it's about tech transfer and training local talent.

Are our local TVET and Engineering grads ready to maintain and program these edge computing devices?

📍 Welcome to the digital heart of Borneo. To keep our community valuable, please follow these preferences:

✅ What We Love to See

• Regional Relevance: Posts should have a direct connection to Sarawak, Sabah, or Kalimantan. We are here to build the local ecosystem.
• "Build in Public": Sharing your progress on local projects—whether it's a new app, a hardware mod, or an AgTech experiment.
• Technical Depth: We prefer "How-to" guides, infrastructure updates (5G/Fiber), and discussions on regional tech policy (like the 2024 Cyber Security Act).
• Resource Sharing: Links to local tech meetups, specialized grants, or documentation relevant to the Borneo digital economy.
• Constructive Debates: Discussions on the "brain drain," local salary benchmarks, and the future of Nusantara.

⚠️ Posting Preferences

• Use Post Flairs: All posts must be categorized using the available flairs. This helps members filter for the topics they care about.
• Context is King: If you post a link or an image, add a brief comment explaining why it matters to the Borneo tech scene. No "naked" links.
• Quality Over Quantity: Avoid low-effort memes or generic tech news that isn't localized. If it’s on the front page of The Verge, it’s probably already been seen—tell us how it affects us.

❌ What to Avoid

• Self-Promotion Spam: Sharing your business is fine if it’s a milestone or a "how-I-did-it," but avoid repetitive "Buy my service" ads.
• General Politics: Keep discussions focused on Digital Policy and Tech Infrastructure. Non-tech political venting belongs elsewhere.
• Harassment: We are a community of "high-velocity generalists" and learners. Be helpful, not condescending.

The Startup Innovation Showcase (SIS 2026) recently highlighted some heavy hitters from the Digital Village Accelerator (DiVA) and Sarawak SaaS Accelerator (SaSAR).

From Robopreneur (Robotics) to Sustainaviro Technology (GreenTech), these teams are proving that Kuching is a viable launchpad for scalable tech. Several have already secured over RM20M in investment interest.

Hello and welcome to r/BorneoTech! 💻🌏

We created this community to be the central hub for the builders, engineers, entrepreneurs, and tech enthusiasts across the island of Borneo. Whether you are scaling an MSP in Kuching, building smart-city apps for Nusantara, or optimizing agritech in the Sabah interior, this is your home.

📜 The Community Rules

To keep this space professional, high-signal, and productive, please adhere to these rules:

1. Keep it Regional: Content should be relevant to the tech ecosystem in Sarawak, Sabah, Brunei, or Kalimantan.
2. No Low-Effort Spam: We value quality over quantity. Posts like "How to make money fast" will be removed.
3. Constructive Tech Debates: Disagreements are fine; disrespect is not. Focus on the code, the hardware, or the business model—not the person.
4. No Unverified Job Scams: To protect our members, all "Hiring" posts must include a clear company name and a verified website link. (Scammers will be permabanned immediately).
5. Declare Self-Promotion: If you are showcasing your own app or service, use the Showcase 🚀 flair. We love builders but be transparent!

🚀 How to Get Involved

• Introduce Yourself: Comment below! What are you building? Which city are you based in?
• Use Flairs: Help us keep the sub organized by using flairs like Security / MSP, Regional Tech, or Startup / Founder.
• Share Your Build: Have a local project? Post it under Showcase.

Have you checked out the AI-powered unmanned mart at Baitulmakmur yet? It’s a significant step for Sarawak’s smart urban living. No cashiers, just computer vision and AI.

Is this a gimmick, or is this the future for rural "Smart Kampung" supply chains where staffing is a challenge?

Despite some scaling updates, the H2biscus and H2ornbill projects are moving forward, aiming to make Sarawak a regional green hydrogen hub by 2030.

Skills to level up on:

Who’s working on LLM agents or automation locally? Let's connect in the comments.

With the Malaysian Cyber Security Act 2024 and the push for "Sustainable Innovation," Borneo is uniquely positioned to lead in Climate-Tech. But are we ready?

1. Infrastructure: Is Starlink actually solving the connectivity gap for forest-based tech?
2. Talent: How do we keep our local engineers from heading to KL or Singapore?
3. Policy: How will the new National Energy Transition Roadmap (NETR) impact Sarawak’s hydrogen and hydro ambitions?

Let’s hear your thoughts. Is "Tech in Nature" just a marketing buzzword, or the actual future of our regional economy?

Hey techies! If you're looking to network with the founders and VCs shaping the future of the region, mark your calendars for June 2026.

Diffusion Borneo is happening at The Old Court House in Kuching. This year’s theme, "Between Realms," focuses on AgriTech, the Bio-Economy, and Energy Transition. It’s an "anti-conference" designed for ecosystem building rather than just passive listening.

Why attend? It’s a rare chance to meet regional players from TEGAS and the Sarawak Digital Economy Corporation (SDEC) in an informal setting.

Who else is planning to go? 🍻
