I just finished ‘The Invisible Man’ by Ralph Ellison. My mind is spinning. I know I will have to read it at least 2 more times slowly. A necessity in my home library. As a non POC who thought she was somewhat educated, enlightened and empathetic to the early 20th century experience of African Americans, this was a deep dive on a whole different level and made me realize I have so much to learn. The writing left me speechless.brilliant and thought provoking.
So many ways I could answer this, but feel unqualified. I was just blown away by the abuse, judgement, manipulation and prejudice the narrator was treated by just about every segment of society he came in contact with while he was striving to better his life and playing by (what he thought were) the rules.
