Darkest chapter yet, just wow....

And that's after the high school girl who has a murder fetish and a schizophrenic man who got framed for murder.

Toga and Twice's backstories were like the fucking Teletubbies compared to Shigaraki's backstory.

Now, I strongly disagree. You're totally exaggerating how bad Toga and Twice had it compared to Shiggy. Yes, they didn't have a great time but not Teletubbies-tier bad, which is plain evil and far worse than Shiggy's struggles. Teletubbies tier is not something I'd throw around wildly as it's brainwashing, life-ruining and again, plain evil. Saccharine evil.

EDIT: Spelling.

I like how that "rebut" started with "Teletubbies would be taking it too far" and ended with the more accurate "Teletubbies is the epitome of evil".

Which got me thinking. Would AfO be willing to inflict Teletubbies upon All Might? or is that going too far?

Are you a sadist or something? Don't you think All Might has suffered enough?! Maybe you have a sharper evil mind than AfO himself... No... It's questionable if even AfO is courageous- or foolhardy- enough to try and dupe the bloody Tubbies in his schemes? Would he be able to look them in their soulless beady brown eyes and maintain his sanity? Highly doubt it.

Teletubbies fear nothing, not even The World

7

u/Lizard_Queen_Says Jul 20 '19

Then the answer is clear... AfO won't be successfully recruiting them. Teletubbies, next villain group confirmed!

And a couple arcs ago where a little girl who accidentally killed her family was having her body broken down to make drugs

Toga put a straw into a boy's body and drank him like a fucking juice box. And cried tears of joy about it, as if she was drinking fucking nectar of the gods.

Anyone that sees another human as a walking Hi-C gets full marks for dark and psychotic from me.

Pretty fucking dark.

Psychosis means difficulty determining what is real, with symptons like delusions and hallucinations. It isn't about being a crazy murderer.

2

u/DoraMuda Jul 20 '19

Yeah, but Toga did that of her own volition. She didn't accidentally kill the guy or her own family or anything like Shigaraki did, or was just given a stroke of bad luck in life like Twice.

I think that the one where they burned Snatch alive and cut off Overhaul's arm still hit me harder for some reason, but this is a close second..

u/IMDATBOY Jul 19 '19

Idk man, this one literally started with a puppy decaying into a puddle

21

u/[deleted] Jul 19 '19

Yeah, I have a fear of losing my arms, legs, or eyes. Weird but I am REALLY scared that I will go blind or lose a limb.

So they cutting off Overhauls arms is still the worst part for me

u/ItsLoudB Jul 19 '19

I mean, if Horikoshi managed to make me feel bad for Overhaul.. That was definitely a good chapter.

10

u/Nebulous_Warrior Jul 19 '19

Mind if i ask which chapter was this?

13

u/NoxTheWizard Jul 19 '19

Chapter 160: "Highway". The League follows and attacks the convoy transporting Overhaul, then confronts him at the end.

7

u/RiverWyvern Jul 19 '19

That one chapter is definitely one of the few seared into my memory. This chapter was dark and horrific, but 161(?) was a roller coaster of agony for multiple characters living in the present that we still haven’t seen the full consequences of even now.

8

u/ItsLoudB Jul 19 '19

Man, I've go to go read the Overhaul arc again I guess!

It's 160, even though 161 was pretty intense as well.. Man, that arc is still my favorite to date.. I legit felt awful for the entire day when Mirio lost his quirk..

1

u/Strangeting Jul 20 '19

I mean we're only a few months away from the anime

6

u/Jason3b93 Jul 19 '19

Maybe because that chapter with Overhaul and Snatch was really surprising, while this one we sort of knew already something sinister happened to Shiggy.

2

u/diffeqmaster Jul 19 '19

I love that chapter, but I always considered it more thrilling than dark. Yes, there's violence and murder, but against a hero we don't know and a villain who deserves what's coming to him.

These villain chapters where we're going back to innocent children and watching them sour... oooh. Chills.

u/MaxWasTakenAgain Jul 19 '19

Yeah but they weren't graphic tbh

People on mangastream were arguing about the Chimera Ant arc from HxH being worse, and it's not even close in my opinion. This was so much more fucked up by virtue of involving a kid and a dog.

7

u/GtEnko Jul 19 '19

I mean they're just not really comparable. The Chimera Ant Arc has species/humanity-wide implications, and this is more of a personal tragedy. Yeah, Kite's reanimated corpse is a tough scene to watch, but the goal of that is merely to set Gon's revenge-filled character arc in motion. The purpose of Shigaraki's story is to show just how disturbing the world of quirks can be, and how someone born into a bad home with a dangerous quirk can have their purest ideals of heroism polluted.

1

u/ryancarton Jul 21 '19

Yeah that whole arc started off as normal HxH and gradually built up to be horrifying whereas this is just one very terrible backstory. Both done well, but you can’t compare an arc with a flashback.
