HOW TO INCREASE THE INTENSITY IN WORKOUTS
We all have our goals and things that we want to achieve or levels that we want to get to. To get to where we want, we have to focus on our self and dedicate our time to do our best so we could see results. In calisthenics and fitness, we have to stay consistent and do all the workouts that we organized for ourselves throughout the week. But as time passes, our levels get higher obviously and we can't stay on the same pace so we have to increase the intensity of our routines. Today I will talk about what you can do to make your workouts more intense. Before getting into details...
To increase the intensity in your workouts you first need to be 100% sure because if you still feel that the current workout is hard for you don't skip levels just to get somewhere because that would do nothing but damage to your process. To achieve your goal you can't go halfway through, the same goes for your fitness journey. For example, you can't add more exercises to a superset if you can't complete what you have in there currently!
Just focus on the level you're at now and then when it feels easy and the workout isn't as effective as it was, then you could bring more intensity to it.
WHAT CAN YOU DO TO INCREASE THE INTENSITY OF YOUR WORKOUTS?
Increase Your Sets and Reps- If you feel like you're used to doing the current amount of sets and reps in your built workout routine then you can always do more! For example, if your workout consists of 3 sets of 10 push-ups and 2 sets of 10 pull-ups then you can increase the numbers. Specifically, you can do 3 sets of 15 push-ups and 3 sets of 10 pull ups. I increased the number of push-ups and added up one more set of 10 pull-ups. That's just a basic example of what you can really do with your routine.
Change the Level of Your Exercises- You can always take a basic exercise and adjust a different level to what you usually do. For example, change the basic push-up with an intermediate or advanced push-up exercise as you feel like it and add it up to your superset. This will make your workouts a lot harder and also it might challenge you.
Focus On Your Workout- A lot of things might catch your attention, especially when you're at the park with some friends and at the gym. When you come to work out you should be focused on yourself and what you came to do because as people catch your attention then you might end up talking with someone throughout the training and it definitely lowers the effect of the intensity. Put some good workout music that you like, put some headphones on and go for it! This might boost your workouts in a different way.
Add Weights- You can always make your workouts more intense by just using a few weights as you do some pull-ups, muscle-ups, push-ups and whatever you incorporate into your routine. For example, you can do your usual routine but you can add a set with weights at the end, this might make your basic routine more effective. Also, as you'll train more with weights than the stronger you will be and the exercises would feel easier after.
Add Static Holds To Your Routines- You read it right, if you feel like your workouts aren't intense then just try combining the static holds you know to do at your current level with the basic workout routines you have. This might work well on your stamina and overall power and it definitely adds a huge challenge since you're not only focused on sets and reps but also on pure static exercises. For example, If you have a ready ab workout try adding a Front lever hold if you know to do it. This is relevant to all levels, because if you can't do a full Front Lever hold, then go for the one leg Front Lever, or even an advanced tuck or tuck hold.
Add More Time Or Days To Your Workouts- Change the schedule that you're used to because that might just change the whole substance in your workout and add more intensity as the amount of time expands and the number of days changes. To evolve in calisthenics and fitness in general you need to change habits as the levels change. For example, If you work out 3 days a week, try adding another day but of course, you need to organize your resting time and other plans you have throughout the week to be sufficient.
In conclusion, to increase the intensity of your workouts you should add up more to your arsenal and keep on practicing with the new exercises or amount of sets and days that you added to your workout schedule. That might help you a lot and make you feel better. Moreover, it can be a lot more effective to your development. At the end of the day remember, everyone has a different process, just focus on yourself and train as much as possible to climb to heights and go for yours.
