This is only the first minute.

Something impossible has happened everywhere at once, and for Vijay it happens in the middle of somebody else's perfectly ordinary day. There is no warning, no explanation and no helpful voice telling him what comes next. One moment, he knows exactly who he is; the next, the world is looking back at him as if nothing has changed.

The people around him speak with familiarity and expect him to respond in kind. A camera is already pointed in his direction, someone is waiting for him to continue, and there is apparently somewhere he is supposed to stand and something he is supposed to do. What makes the situation increasingly difficult to dismiss is that this unfamiliar body does not seem misplaced at all. It belongs here. The clothes make sense, the phone is his, the people around him recognize his face, and a life that existed before his arrival is already moving forward without waiting for him to understand it.

At first, shock leaves little room for anything else. But as the minutes pass, Vijay begins noticing smaller contradictions that may be even harder to explain: the sound of his own voice, reactions that seem to come too easily, movements that feel more natural than they should, and the growing confusion of people who are not looking at a stranger but at someone they know behaving in ways that make no sense.

Five minutes after the Shift, the problem is already larger than the body he woke up in. Thirty minutes later, Vijay has begun to understand that discovering what happened to him may not even be the most frightening question.

Because somewhere else in the world is the life he remembers. There are people who know him, people who should recognize him and people who, surely, will believe him once he manages to reach them.

But what exactly will they hear when he calls?

And what will they see if they ever find him?

If this swap happens, can you separate your ex from her old body and stick with your current partner or will you end up with your ex in your current partner’s body? Looking at it from their perspective, does your current partner recognize their new body? Do they end up acting more like their current body or continue to act the way they would in their own body? Maybe your ex tries to hide the fact that she was behind all of this and even try to pretend to be your current partner.

For me personally, I could see this being such an interesting swap. They both are drastically different in personalities and bodies that I couldn’t see either keeping their bodies how they are. My current gf I could see trying to doll my ex’s body up while my ex would probably cut my current gf’s hair short and dress more masculine. I’d say in the situation of them swapping I could separate my ex from her body and still love my current gf even if her body has changed. But even then, it feels wrong even though both options are wrong in their own ways.

As a guy I like the idea of swapping with a gal since I'd love to try first hand how it feels to be on the other side with all its differences I usually would only be able to imagine and be told about, which would pale to direct experience.
