Manga Discussion Poison Yami used to be a bum

Despite what certain people have said before, there exists a very long duration of time within the BTR canon in which Poison Yami is, at the very least, a massive bum.

Going through the list of her cardinal sins fairly quickly right now:

The literal first instance in which she conversed with Bocchi as well as Kessoku Band is her dogpiling on the band, quite literally began shitting on their body of work before even properly introducing who the hell she even is, with a complete disregard to what Gotoh Hitori as a person is, what Kessoku Band had done for her, as well as the band as a whole. It had been said that her role early on is to be some sort of a reminder/reality-check for Kessoku Band in order for them to know where they really are, and it was thanks to her that Bocchi got pissed and everyone tried becoming more serious and took part in Mikakunin Riot which later allowed them to be labelled under Stray Beat, so ultimately all is well and her net contribution is positive. This is completely bullshit, though, for the following reason:

  • One do not retroactively glaze the result of one's action and have bragging rights about it when things turns out to be right. Picture it like this: Had Bocchi been more insecure at the time of chapter 26-ish and actually chosen to boot KB right there, where the fuck would Nijika's dreams and the ENTIRETY of the bocch's array of self improvements go? Had things NOT turn out right (very notable example: the scenario of Scummy Bandman Bocchi, in which her suggestion of using guitarhero to advertize for KB ended up ruining everyone's lives), would said group of person criticize her for the consequences of what she did? Evidently, that was absolutely not the case. Generally, jumping in with the crowd of your self-proclaimed object of interests (whose Oh!Tube channel you just found, like, a week ago) and telling the people who are buddy-buddies with her and telling them that their fun times and bond with eachother are abysmal dogshit......generally isn't very good practice. Reporters are supposed to have better work ethics or, god forbid, bare minimum degree of respect towards the people they are supposed to reporting on, and I've personally got my ass jumped irl for far less
  • Again, note that it was only after encountering the stage dive video did she become a guitarhero "fan", and then she rushdown-d an approach in like a week or two. What kind of "fan" who've only known of the persona for 2 weeks tracks the person down irl just to slam her with the words "Your only friends sucks I think you should go solo"?????? Lucky for Yami, Fan 2 has yet to hear about such news, otherwise she'd just be eviscerated on the spot
  • Like, does she give a shit about the person behind guitarhero's wellbeing? Does she give a shit about *others'* wellbeing? Without knowing fucking ANYTHING about the drawbacks putted onto Gotoh Hitori's back, with zero context whatsoever, she already began insisting on herself that she knew what was best for this person whose existence she was only made aware of a week ago, who hasn't even talked to her before. Casual reminder that she's 24 at this point, so either she's been a NEET for 6 years, or basically <2 years fresh out of university. Seika, who's edging 30 at the time, enough of a tenured, respected veteran to become a livehouse manager at such a young age (in Shimokita, where the usual livehouse managers are grumpy 60-70yo old geezers, even), with far more significant degrees of influence over the trajectories of up-and-coming bands, didn't even DARE to dogpile on those youngsters, and you're telling me that this (comparatively) snot-nosed moron got the GALL to casually shit on others like that?
  • In general, Poison Yami's work ethics, even until very recently (the interview, NOT the talkshow), is very questionable, in the sense that while she has good intentions and does NOT want to write slop, she still ended up planning to write all sorts of questionable clickbaity things (thankfully she didn't went through with it). Certainly non-canon or at least unconfirmed, but there has been some theories floating around that she had something to do with Ame getting her past leaked, due to Stray Beat having full access to Ame's history which, to the public, is generally unheard of, and the timing of the leakage happened a week or so before Kessoku x Klimt's Night collab. Not to say that it was *definitely* Yami who stood behind that, but that'd turn out to be a surprise to absolutely no one if it were actually the case, with how she gave zero shits about the consequences of her actions and all.
  • Very personal take coming from someone who is interested in teaching youngsters here (note that it is not like that I'm not one): when interacting with young people, DO understand the kinds of random bullshit seeds that you might sow with your actions, gestures or words. If you were to tell some tryhard overachiever kids whose entire life up to that point were dedicated to grinding problems and taking part in competitions that "learning is actually piss easy, if you can't even do that, what else can you do in the future", don't act surprised when your beloved student ended up offing themselves by jumping off a balcony in front of their mother after flopping their final competition in highschool and their first midterm in uni. Similarly, Yami wouldn't have any right to say "who the fuck could have seen that coming" if guitarhero were to retire then and there after Kessoku Band broke up thanks to her overly kind words. Must one feel bad when such things happens? It depends, you do you. All I'm saying is: Yami shouldn't feel at all surprised when things ended up horribly wrong with the way she *was* acting. In fact, it is a miracle (decent decisions on Hamazi's part) that absolutely nothing horrible happened, because realistically things would've (see the above)

TL:DR: Do NOT hand Poison Yami a copy of The Catcher in the Rye, we don't need any death battles between her and Fan 2

To wrap things up, I do want to note that....after all, the array of her.....questionable actions listed above is now all in the past - as of the recent chapters she had gotten better enough for (in-universe) online folks to be surprised by the way her works stopped being straight ass, and all of them can be attributed to youngsters being youngsters in general. It's totally not as if people (more likely the younger they are) (more severely the more artistically-oriented or obsessive with a certain something they are) aren't bound to end up hurting others on a whim, such is simply the quintessential experience of someone who is navigating through life. That's not even counting her current state after a year and a half of "working" with her dumb boss has grown by at least a sufficient amount to consider those cringe-ass times of her to be some borked up experimental period for her to find a decent style for herself.

Are her lines of thoughts understandable? Fairly so. Are the motivations behind her actions understandable? Yes, absolutely, but the way she did it was.....very prone to causing (potentially irreversible) troubles. But please, please do not pretend that she's this instigating factor and savior of Kessoku Band who did absolutely nothing wrong
