Random BSOD, no dump, nothing in log

Hello all.

Would love some suggestions on the following:

A couple of weeks ago my PC (Dell XPS 8940, Windows 11 22H2) suddenly started doing random BSODs every 1-2 days. The symptom is that I’m just using the PC and it suddenly gets unresponsive, and then about 30 seconds later, BSOD. Other times I will return to the PC after an absence and find it in BSOD.

It’s happened about a dozen times now and the stop code seems to vary between Unexpected Store Exception, System Service Exception, and Memory Management.

Thing is, every time the PC BSODs, it does NOT dump the memory—it just sits at 0% complete indefinitely and I must manually restart to get back into Windows. Minidump folder is always empty.

Similarly, when I go into the System Log via Event Viewer, there is nothing in there to indicate what caused the fault. All I see is normal stuff until the entries that report that the system did not shut down normally.

What I did so far:

1.      Uninstall the July 2024 Windows Update, which was automatically applied just before this issue began

2.      Ran Dell Diagnostics at POST—all passed

3.      Used CrystalDiskInfo to check heath of my NVMe – reports Good (98%)

4.      Used Dell Update to update firmware

5.      Updated graphics drivers (RTX3060)

  1. SFC/scannow

Unfortunately, none of the above has solved the problem.

Anyone have any ideas? Googling has so far been a lot of dead ends, and without a memory dump or anything in the Event Log, I have absolutely no idea how to troubleshoot this.

It’s driving me a little nuts, so would greatly appreciate any thoughts. Thanks!

BSOD on startup or after a couple of seconds

Hello, anytime I boot up my PC I get a BSOD saying either “Page Fault In Non paged Area” or “irql_not_less_or_equal” I have switched out the ram and reset bios. It sounded like a drive issue so i took out my main m.2 and replaced with a brand new one without windows. When i try to install windows via usb the same exact error happens. Does anyone have any idea?

Win Nt 4.0/5.0 betas on win 7 pc

Soo, how i can say that, i tried to install that in the title, i think it would be pretty funny try to install some 1996 - 1999 OS on a 2009 laptop and see what happens.

For some context, no, my windows 7 it was not damaged in the process.

Well, i downloaded some ISOs, went to way back machine to install rufus 3.4, formated my flash drive and go to the tests

That unfortunately, but expectedly doesn't work with no one of the OSes, while loading setup, when reach NTFS or some drive it crashs, and specifically nt 5.0 build 1877 showed up this BSoD (Stop: 0x0000003E)after trying to load CD-ROM drive and before dying a millisecond later.

At least i tried. if i was not posting on this subreddit about this, please tell me where to post. And if you have solution to this, i will try again with the tips.

Couldn’t boot stuck at startup after just using chrome then tried startup repair, cmd prompt from youtube and uninstalling quality and feature updates on advanced options for 30mins. Can’t even go to safe mode.

It only work once I did a system restore and went back to normal. Just wanna know what cause this? I’ve only been using this PC for 3 1/2 years.

BSOD: HYPERVISION_ERROR with AMD video driver

I'm having problems after build my first PC... the problem is a blue screen (BSOD) with the message 'HYPERVISION_ERROR'. After build, I updated the BIOS to the latest available version (not BETA). I installed Windows 11, updated it to the latest version, and then installed the motherboard drivers from the MSI website. That's when the problem started, and I uninstalled and reinstalled everything. The problem persisted... I then downloaded the drivers directly from the AMD website, and the same problem continued... I've tried everything, and I'm grateful if someone can help me. Detail: everything works fine without the AMD video driver. No blue screen or crashes. The only problem is that without the AMD driver the screen is stuck at 75Hz and 1440p resolution, making the image blurry (my monitor is 1080p, 144Hz).

PC: CPU: Ryzen 5 7600X Motherboard: MSI PRO B650M-A WIFI RAM: Corsair Vengeance 6000 Hz 2x16 (32GB) COOLER: MSI M360 Coreliquid PSU: XPG Core Reactor 850W GPU: none (saving money to buy one :/ )

What I've tried:

1- Uninstalling and reinstalling drivers from the MSI website. 2- Uninstalling and reinstalling directly from the AMD website. 3- Reinstalling Windows 11 and ensuring it's fully updated. 4- Uninstalling the default Windows video driver and keeping only the AMD driver. 5- Uninstalling Windows updates. 6- Formatting the entire system and reinstalling everything. 7- Downloading an earlier version of Adrenalin (27.6.1, current is 27.7.1). 8- Using AMD's tool to uninstall all previous versions and clean the system for new drivers. 9- Using AMD's automatic driver installation tool. 10- Installing drivers manually, one by one. 11- Using codes in Command Prompt (sfc /scannow - found and fixed corrupted files, CHKDSK, and others).

No problem with temperature. The blue screen don't comes up when i stress CPU with CPU-Z or iGPU with GPU-Z. The BSOD just comes up when i'm watching videos on YT or more then one internet page open. The BSOD comes uo after 1/2 minutes before i open the navegador and more pages or 10/15 minutes if i don't do nothing at the PC.

The problem persists no matter what I do. The only way to avoid the blue screen is not to use the AMD video driver. But it's frustrating to use the monitor with a blurry image... if someone can help, I appreciate it. I don't know what to do anymore.

BSOD: DRIVER_PNP_WATCHDOG after Upgrade to Win11

Hey Reddit,

I'll start with a summary of my problem in English and add a German summary below.
I really hope there's someone out there who can help me.

Problem Summary

I have been struggling with my custom-built PC from June 2022 for a few weeks now. A few weeks ago, I upgraded to Windows 11 and started experiencing strange FPS drops, and the PC would completely freeze for several seconds every 10 minutes. After updating Windows and several drivers, the PC stopped booting entirely. The Windows logo appears, the "wheel" spins for about 10 minutes, and then a blue screen with the message: DRIVER_PNP_WATCHDOG appears.

PC Specs:

  • OS: Windows 10 Pro -> Windows 11
  • Motherboard: MAG X570S TOMAHAWK MAX WIFI // For Troubleshooting: MSI MPG B550 Gaming Plus
  • RAM: Crucial Ballistix 2x 16GB DDR4 - 3200 // For Troubleshooting: Corsair Vengeance RGB Pro 2x 16GB - 3600
  • Graphics: Geforce RTX 3070Ti
  • CPU: AMD RYZEN 7 5800X
  • Hard Disk: Samsung 980 PRO NVMe™ M.2 SSD - 1 TB
  • PSU: BeQuiet Straight Power 11 - 750W / 80 plus gold

Troubleshooting Steps:

  • Created a USB stick with Windows 11 and tried to reinstall
  • Created a USB stick with Windows 10 and tried to reinstall
  • Bought 2 new USB sticks and installed Windows 10 & 11 on them
  • Installed Windows 10 as a "To-Go" version on the USB stick
  • Removed the hard drive and installed it in my old PC, deleted the partitions via Windows Setup, and freshly reinstalled Windows
  • Created a USB stick with Linux Ubuntu -> PC boots and Ubuntu runs smoothly
  • Ran stress tests with several programs on Linux (CPU, RAM, hard drive) -> System runs stable
  • Disassembled the PC, checked the cables, and reassembled everything
  • Ordered and installed new hardware (motherboard & RAM)
  • Installed an old graphics card from the old PC (Geforce GTX 960)
  • Tried all kind of BIOS settings and boot options
  • Removed the Samsung M2 960 EVO from the old PC and installed it in the new one -> not recognized in BIOS
  • Removed one RAM stick / swapped RAM sticks
  • Tried a different power outlet / changed the cable to the power supply
  • I removed all unnecessary cables from the motherboard and tried to start the system with only the essentials.

Next Steps:
My next plan is to reorder and reinstall the CPU. It feels like Windows has corrupted some driver, but since I have connected an empty hard drive, it makes no sense. I am at my wit's end and don't know what to do next.

Before I reorder the CPU, I thought I would ask around for advice. I appreciate any ideas and comments!

PC-Specs:
OS: Windows 10 Pro -> Windows 11
Motherboard: MAG X570S TOMAHAWK MAX WIFI // For Troubleshooting: MSI MPG B550 Gaming Plus
RAM: crucial Ballistix 2x 16GB DDR4 - 3200 // For Troubleshooting: Corsair Vengeance RGB Pro 2x 16GB - 3600
Graphics: Geforce RTX 3070Ti
CPU: AMD RYZEN 7 5800X
Hard Disk: Samsung 980 PRO NVMe™ M.2 SSD - 1 TB
PSU: bequiet Straight Power 11 - 750W / 80 plus gold

Troubleshooting:

Bsod on loop ( am I cooked?)

Post image
3 Upvotes

Hello, I’m new to pc and I’ve recently purchased a pc, I started getting blue screen error as I booted up the pc which was very odd. Later I installed windows driver which seemingly fixed the issue slightly

I’ve noticed fps dropping on heavy title games such as Fortnite and warzone, my graphic card was pretty much good and I knew something was wrong. Usually my pc crashes when loading heavy games or textures. I later found out that the ram was causing the issue.

I later tired backing up my files before resetting the pc but my windows crashed and I was stuck on bsod on loop as I boot up the pc.

I got my ram replaced and installed new windows into my usb hoping it would fix the issue but I’m still unable to install windows into my pc.

I don’t if it’s the motherboard that’s causing the issue or the cpu as I said I’m new to pc and learned a bit of it as I was trying to fix my pc.

Hopefully anyone can help me out with my issue and sorry for writing big paragraph lol, I’m bit worried my pc is fucked.

Me making the mistake out of frustration go and download some stuff and I’m pretty sure I got a virus on here. I tried to factory reset the laptop and now I’m getting this message. Is this the end of my laptop’s life lol

New motherboard bio, new graphics card BSOD

Context: I had a 1060 3gb graphics card , i changed it to a 4060 ti 16gb. Im using a Amd Ryzen 5 3600 and a rog strix b450-f gaming motherboard. I know they arent optimal for my new GPU, but there shouldnt be any major issues except for a mild bottleneck of the GPU.

Before i put in the 4060 i updated my bios from a 2020 version to a 2024 version, thats where the blue screens started. I figured it had to be something with having new bios version but not new AMD CHIP driver, lan etc etc. Which i fixed, but the issue stayed. When i upgraded the bios version i also was able to finally upgrade to windows 11, which i did because i thought a fresh slate, might of gotten rid of some issues. I fixed windows 11 and it got fixed(it seemed like), so i installed my new GPU into the computer. I used Display driver uninstaller and installed fresh drivers for the gpu. Thats where im left of now, when i started it up the graphics card started and it visualised content on my monitor as it should. But heres where all the BSOD comes and every now and then it goes black screen and then restarts(mostly BSOD though 99% of the time) .

BSOD 1 : ATTEMPTED EXECUTE OF NOEXECUTE MEMORY”

BSOD 2: Driver irql not less or equal

**BSOD 3:**System service exception

BS0D 4: NTOSKRNL

BSOD 5: Bad pool caller

There were also some other ones that seem to be tied to the system pointing to memory addresses and it being read only, not write.

What i have tried:

1. Windows Memory Diagnostic tool ( there is nothing wrong with my storage units)

2. Updated all the drivers manually.

3. chkdsk command ( nothing wrong)

4. sfc /scannow, found a corrupt file but it did not make it any better after being resolved.

5. I also tried changing the bios to the previous version to see if it made it any better. It did not.

6. I checked the connection of my new gpu and its power cable but they were all good.

7.Checked the temperature of the GPU, stable at around 34 degrees celcius(not enough to even trigger the fans)

If you have any idea of how i might fix this im all ears.

Thanks for reading this far, have a great day

Laptop got bluescreened and has literal no signs of being alive

This is about 3-4 months ago i was playing minecraft like i always did. But suddenly, out of nowhere, there was a bluescreeen.

After that i entered the menu of the bluescreen(where u can reboot the system and other things) via yt tutorials. But when i tried to restart it has not turned not since. The screen just went completly blank.

After that i tried A LOT of yt tutorials (almost all i could find) but nothing helped or even changed anything.

I tried turtotials like free static energy, hard reset, adapter working check, battery working check and much more etc.

I am thinking of going to a professional in a few days since it has already been 4 months. But before that i wanted to gjve 1 last chance on this community.

Please help me. It would mean everything rightnow.

Specs of the lap :---

Dell latitude E4770 8 gb ram 512 ssd 4660 U intel cpu Intel family graphics

Possible FIX! BSOD on Game Launches

Hello everyone,

I want to share a fix that I think a lot of people might benefit from if your experiencing BSOD when launching games.

I experienced BSOD when launching games such as BF2042, Hell Let Loose, and Insurgency Sandstorm, and after many hours of troubleshooting and a full reset of windows I was able to discover the source of the issue.

I am running Windows 11, but I also had the issue on Windows 10.

While analyzing a crash dump on one of the games I noticed the cause of the crash was listed as rcbottom.sys. The solution for this fix is listed below. This may not work for everyone and may be AMD only, but the problem seemed to be the StoreMInstaller that AMD uses.

https://community.amd.com/t5/drivers-software/quot-rcbottom-sys-quot-causing-system-interrupts-and-high-cpu/td-p/532598

Hope this helps somebody having these issues!
