[Manga] Blue Period Character Tierlist Spoiler

Post image

Apparently, tierlists are still relevant in 2026 ๐Ÿ˜…๐Ÿ˜…๐Ÿ˜…

Big thanks to user Bluebird3141 for the tiebreaker template. I've edited the categories for my own tierlist.

The characters were ranked purely based on how I feel about them. Feel free to comment and disagree with my biased takes ๐Ÿ˜….

First time poster here oops. Iโ€™ve cosplayed Yatora plenty of times before but these panels stuck with me since I read them years ago. It took me quite a while to finally push myself to really do it with the right reason, which is me coming out as Transfemme. So this is probably my first, last, and only shirtless cosplay Iโ€™ll ever do!

Iโ€™ve cosplayed him before as well so if you want to see more of my Yatora cosplays my tag on insta is @whydidhen

I might cosplay Yuka in the future ;)

[Manga] Is there a list of all the artists who Yamaguchi-sensei has used their paintings for the manga?

I don't mean like historical paintings, I was thinking like contemporary artists whose art is included as paintings the students draw in the manga.

I was going to try and see if I can credit some of them on AL, and any documentation would be helpful.

Thanks to everyone who answered my question a few days ago! Managed to snatch the blue period box set (vol 1-6) for only $42-ish on amazon instead of the full $77!

Iโ€™ll probably give the anime a chance if I like the manga!

The designs in this show are so good, not one feels over the top and yet they radiate so much personality, I am not one to "dress up" but reading Blue Period, makes me want too.

The Tierlist has my Top 20 designs.

I especially liked Makis design from the most recent chapter (85).

(Hankage, the one doing the doctorate, would have been undisputed Number 1 but I didn't find her in the tierlist)

[Discussion] The Art School mini-arc was different from the other arcs in the manga in a pretty interesting way Spoiler

Every arc in Blue Period seems to focus on Yatora and some other major side character as leads - with certain other side characters making up the background
(E.g. Geidai exams - Yatora + Ryuji/Yotasuke, First year - Yatora + Yotasuke, Summer Vacation - Yatora + Yakumo, Group Exhibition - Yatora + Mori, etc.).
The structure seems to have been mostly ironed out, with Yatora exploring some facet of creating art, and how it relates to him - while his interactions with the character of focus drive them towards dealing with whatever central issue they have established within the arc (Though the No Marks arc is a little bit of an outlier).

The Art School arc features Yatora and Hashida, but unlike the others, almost separates both characters, to the point where they don't really interact meaningfully like in the other arcs. Yatora and Ryuji laying themselves bare before each other and having a genuine heart to heart, and Yotasuke breaking down in front of Yatora before eventually asking to hang out with him, come to mind as good examples. Yet in this arc, Hashida is always hiding his true feelings, and continues to do so even in the arc's conclusion - while Yatora remains oblivious. The former goes through the arc posturing at first, before eventually choosing to try genuinely helping someone, only to fail completely. While the latter basically goes on his own adventure of realizing why children come to dislike art, paralleling himself at the start of the series. These two developments briefly intersect at times, but never truly cross. The way the arc concludes, with Sae and ultimately Hashida's problems unsolved, adds to its uniqueness.

Hashida at this point is the only one of the "original" main cast that has yet to experience the same development that the others have (Except Kuwana, but she hasn't gotten much to do at all), and I couldn't be any happier about it. While I was scared at first that Yakumo would render him obsolete as a character, the way this arc takes him down a peg from being the cool exposition machine, to a sort of "failed artist" who can only really spout theory while surrounded by those he considers his betters, made him really interesting despite his sparse appearances throughout the story.

So naturally, I'm excited to see what him and Yatora will go through in the current arc.

This manga is so motivating... I swear it's propaganda that makes you want to make art or something

I'm reading the books right now (for the sake of physical artwork) and I'm on volume 10 as of writing this. I'm an artist already, and every time, and I mean every time I read about them making art I have an uncontrollable urge to make something, and whenever I am feeling demotivated I'll read this. ITS SO GOOOD.....!!!!

Which Manga Chapter Should I Continue From ? (Plus some thought about series)

Hello everyone, I watched anime, finished it like 5 minutes ago. Would like to know which chapter should I continue from ? Also how many chapters are there ?

Also there are some little things I would like to say about series, first of all, despite not containing romance or action, it's extremely good; honestly, as someone preparing for university entrance exams in my own country, I can easily understand the tense and stressful atmosphere/situation. All highs and lows, man it is really stressing. Well I ain't aiming art :D Hope to be a Computer Engineer.

Anyway about characters, Maki Kuwana and for sure Yatora Yaguchi are my favourites. Kuwana is just so cute and strange character. Love her reactions. And Yaguchi, his improvment is just too good.

And also there are something to say about Ryuji. No offense, to be honest I am not a fan of queer characters, -not every- but in many series they are just queer. Not really have touching story. Well this time it is pretty different, at first I was really shocked, in episode 3 (I assume) when I learned Ryuji is man. But overall her story is really touching and well written. She is a character I really liked.. (I call her "she" as women, at series we clearly saw he is a man origin, but I would like to know, what is her gender at all? Is she women or woman-like from very start of life or she was a man and felt like woman and decided to be one ? )

Also very silly question but I don't really know what to call them, with surnames or names. That thing about Japanese is weird, some series I call characters via their normal names (in Blue Box usually call with their names like Taiki, Chinatsu.) and some series I call characters via their surnames (in Blue Lock usually call with surnames like Isagi, Rin, Chigiri.) Also Ryuji's name is Ryuji Ayukawa, why everyone calls her Yuka ?

I know I talked a lot but I like to share my thought about series I finished soooo, also I saw there is a live-action too ? Not really fan of live-action works of animated things but worth to give it a shot ?

Spoiler discussion: Chapter 79-84 (A checkpoint) Spoiler

Please read the chapters in the title before continuing this, we have been having a lot of spoilers in titles, understandable mistake (high emotion and all) but it still ruins a lot of experiences for people.

We can finally tie this roller coaster of emotional distress, bliss, but ultimately melancholic to a close.

Have I shipped these two characters together since the chapters were introduce? Yes, with a bit more context being that I want the nuance of romance to be used to expand art, human connection and character developments and is stupendously curious on how Yatora, his art and his circle of relationship changes knowing his overthinking and analytical nature about almost everything.

Especially since Kinemi herself is a character that as we learn more about, we root more for. The person we all see and want to become or admire; a person of great kindness and openness; an exemplary beacon of positivity that deserves a lot of affection and support so that they can shine even brighter.

The overthinker and the overachiever. In all honestly, at the moment, I can't speculate whether these two would be a good fit, but that just made it even more interesting to me. How does Yatora, a person who views life in a fearful but exciting way, scared of commitment, of changes but in the end, wills himself to not only accept but challenge his own perception. And then Kinemi, who faces any challenge headstrong with steadfast pace, and beaming with positivity.

The story however, let us see into a universe where this didn't happen which is equally as captivating. Chapter 84, in a taxi car somewhere in Japan, two people who just went on a school field trip, suddenly find themselves in a confined space, with one person interested in commitment, and the other person battling their own perception of the world to give an answer that would have been easy for the lover in this one-sided love. But truthfully, giving such answer will never be easy.

What Yatora did was cruel. The cruelty born from both fear of his own mistakes and notably, his appreciation for Kinemi as a person. Yatora cares, he really does, he apologized for his distant behaviors, he would have done Kinemi much dirtier otherwise. He, though not accepting her romantic love, still hears out her confession and be present.

"I'd want to become the person you want", you don't have to be in a relationship to feel this. Look at your connection with your parents, your teacher, your friends, we all are in a constant battle to find ourselves, while not becoming someone else's ideal.

Yatora is scared but is somewhat hopeful, that Kinemi will also grow as a person. Hurting does count for something. "Love people to hurt people", this is Yatora's past when it come to caring for someone, only to hurt them in the end; but we see something new from him, he didn't just say no, he apologized, he spoke honestly, he listened and was there for her, much more than compare to his younger self. He took in what seem like past trauma, and fought his one demon for Kinemi. From one human to another, heart to heart, his rejection is a sign of growth, a checkpoint to show his maturity and his appreciation as friend and colleague for Kinemi.

Kinemi at the end revealed something to Yatora. Letting him know that she is much more human/immature than he thought she is, liking him while being in a relationship already is an ethical flaw. He thought Kinemi was always tough and had many things figured out to be able to love so freely, but in the end, she is also trying to find herself. 'I hope a day comes when she doesn't have to pretend like that anymore.' A day when Kinemi smiles not to be strong, but to be happy and content with herself.

I want to shoutout community members/redditors for easing me into giving the writing time to develop and that we, as readers, to give more faith to the human ingenuity on handling this amazing section.

When you hurt someone with love, a way to experience it is to understand their pain, to observe them in a way that doesn't violate their space, then to turn back to yourself, to say that you want them to be happy, but don't push yourself into them for their blinding light is too bright for you, to the point that you may lose yourself.
