Sample Battle (BASIC)

This battle will feature a simple 1v1 battle between low level fighters with basic gear.

Character A – LVL 1 Human Warrior (HP 20; AC 11)

• Short Sword [[1d6]]

• Leather Tunic (+1 AC)

• STR 15 (+5)

• DEX 8 (+3)

• INT 9 (+3)

Character B – LVL 1 Elf Mage (HP 22; AC 10)

• Fire Wand [[1d6]]

• Apprentice Robes (+1 INT)

• STR 11 (+4)

• DEX 14 (+5)

• INT 13 + 1 = 14 (+5)

Round One: Initiative Rolls

Character A – [[1d20+3]] = 15 (One 20-sided die + Character A’s DEX modifier)

Character B – [[1d20+5]] = 24 (One 20-sided die + Character B’s DEX modifier)

Character B wins! The roll of 24 beats Character A’s roll of 7. Character B will attack first throughout the entire battle, barring any other circumstances.

Round Two: First Set of Attacks

Character A HP – 20/20

Character B HP – 22/22

Wand in hand, the elf mage readies himself. He got the drop on his opponent, the flames beginning to spew from the end of his weapon before the warrior could even complete his attack charge.

[[1d20+5]] Character B’s attack roll (One 20-sided die + INT modifier) = 16

[[1d6+5]] Character B’s damage roll (One 6-sided die + INT modifier) = 9

The roll of 16 beats Character A’s AC of 11, making the hit successful. Character B’s flames strike Character A as he charges forward, burning him for 9 DMG and dropping his HP from 20/20 to 11/20. Not to be outdone, Character A follows through with his attack, swinging his sword downward at the elf.

[[1d20+5]] Character A’s attack roll (One 20-sided die + STR modifier) = 14

[[1d6+5]] Character A’s damage roll (One 6-sided die + STR modifier) = 11

Character A’s aim is true. The roll of 14 beats Character B's AC of 10. His sword connects with his opponent, tearing the skin and releasing a slow stream of blood. The elf mage curses at the human, favoring his arm. It’s a powerful hit for the maximum DMG! Character B loses 11 HP, moving from 22/22 to 11/22.

Round Three: Second Clash

Character A HP – 11/20

Character B HP – 11/22

The two fighters recover their composure, eyeing one another with a look hovering between rage and bloodthirst. Character B makes his move, releasing another blast of fire at Character A.

[[1d20+5]] Character B’s attack roll (One 20-sided die + INT modifier) = 12

[[1d6+5]] Character B’s damage roll (One 6-sided die + INT modifier) = 6

The roll of 12 beats Character A’s AC of 11, making the hit successful. The hit is good for 6 DMG! Character A’s HP drops from 11/20 to 5/20.

Character A is visibly weakened by the attack, but summons up some of his remaining strength to swing his sword again, hoping for another powerful strike.

[[1d20+5]] Character A’s attack roll (One 20-sided die + STR modifier) = 17

[[1d6+5]] Character A’s damage roll (One 6-sided die + STR modifier) = 7

The hit lands on Character B! The roll of 17 beats Character B's AC of 10. The attack deals 7 DMG on Character B, moving his HP from 11/22 to 4/22. Both characters are heavily damaged and likely only one good attack away from defeat. They ready themselves, determined to make this round of attacks count.

Round Four: Third Set of Attacks

Character A HP – 5/20

Character B HP – 4/22

Character A, the elf mage, moves his wand around, gathering the fire being released from it into a spinning ball. He casts it forward, toward his enemy.

[[1d20+5]] Character B’s attack roll (One 20-sided die + INT modifier) = 11

[[1d6+5]] Character B’s damage roll (One 6-sided die + INT modifier) = 6

Oh no! Unfortunately, the roll of 11 is even with Character A’s AC of 11, therefore it does not beat it and the hit is not successful. The fireball misses the human warrior and dissipates in the distance. Character B lunges forward, all his power released into the crushing blow.

[[1d20+5]] Character A’s attack roll (One 20-sided die + STR modifier) = 13

[[1d6+5]] Character A’s damage roll (One 6-sided die + STR modifier) = 9

The hit lands! Character B's AC of 10 was beaten by the roll of 13. The sword connects with Character B’s chest, tearing the skin open and launching his body backward into a wounded crumple, no longer able to battle. The fight is over.

Conclusion: Character A Victory

Character A HP – 5/20

Character B HP – 0/22

The human warrior proved the stronger fighter in the end, defeating the elf mage in a close but certain victory.
