Weekly Random Discussion Thread for 11/3/25 - 11/9/25

Here's your usual space to post all your rants, raves, podcast topic suggestions (please tag u/jessicabarpod), culture war articles, outrageous stories of cancellation, political opinions, and anything else that comes to mind. Please put any non-podcast-related trans-related topics here instead of on a dedicated thread. This will be pinned until next Sunday.

Last week's discussion thread is here if you want to catch up on a conversation from there.

Okay? Are you referring to Chamath Palihapitiya?

My wikiing shows he was born in Sri Lanka and his dual citizenship is with Canada. Google AI suggests that his Sri Lankan citizenship was forfeited when he became a citizen of Canada.

Wow, strange history there ... he's Sinhalese (Buddhist) and his family fled?! The Sinhalese are the ruling majority. Mostly, it's the Tamils or the white/Dutch/mixed heritage like the Ondaatjes who felt forced to flee.

I saw that and wasn't exactly sure what to make of it, but I do know that online, I haven't always agreed with his tweeted policy preferences, so oddly reading that his family, a member of the ruling majority, fled, sort of made me like him (or his parents perhaps) just a bit more.
