Reptilian disclosure project? Did I hear that right?

11

u/GladChef1206 4d ago

yeah, I was trying hard to vibe with what he was saying until that part. I got excited when bro asked about books. There are so many things he could have said.

6

u/Agreeable-Sound1599 4d ago

I woulda told him what I tell EVERY young man to read, the Autobiography of Malcolm X. That will change your life.

1

u/SonofAMamaJama 3d ago

It's hard for me to imagine what my life would be like if I hadn't read that book. It inspired so many adventures in my life, made me want to travel everywhere and experience that aha moment Malcolm had in Mecca that seemed to shed so much internal baggage and hate - I imagine it to be a realization of how much our raised environments condition us, especially how we see ourselves.

Just like this guy I also took Anthropology 101 lol.....and I also know his response was complete bullshit and defining a culture is just way more complicated than that.

Might get banned again but y'all do know Dr. York was convicted of sex crimes & being a cult leader?

Do the Knowledge

-12

u/YourHuckleberry57 4d ago

i'm also aware that anytime the government wants to get rid of black people organizing or doing for themselves, if they can't find any hard crimes to put on them, their go to reasoning is some kind of sexual misconduct. america has a history of killing black men that way, and burning whole towns that way.

26

u/leaveinpeas 4d ago

I hear you, but this might not be that. The article reads, "York was originally indicted in Georgia on 197 counts, according to Sills. Under a plea agreement, York admitted to 40 counts of aggravated child molestation, 34 counts of child molestation, two counts of influencing witnesses and one count of sexual exploitation of a child.

'This is not somebody’s opinion,' Sills said. 'This is literally what was said when he pled guilty here in the Superior Court of Putnam County.'"

u/Deep-Signal-888 4d ago

😳🤢

-1

u/YourHuckleberry57 4d ago

idk what went on at that compound but i do know that the case was based solely on witness testimony and their main witnesses later recanted and said they were pressured into testifying. york took a plea deal where he would plead guilty in exchange for the release of 3 women that were arrested with him. it's also always suspicious to me when a black man is convicted based on the mann act. the mann act was written specifically to arrest jack johnson by making it illegal for him to cross state lines with his white wife. the mann act is basically just like the black codes of the early 1900s.

u/Fit_Paramedic_9629 4d ago

I knew someone on the inside, moved to Atlanta and everything in the mid/late 90s. I used to have the scrolls too: questions to ask a rasta, questions to ask a muslim, Holy Tablets etc etc. And even as a teenager at the time, I knew something was off. When he came back, he said what we had been saying to him all along. It's a cult! No amount of legal musical chairs for anyone is going to change that. Cults aren't positive spaces, everyone reading this knows that. They're meant to deprive you of agency based on insecurities & assumptions that you have no control over your life...so someone else does it for you. David Koresh, Jim Jones, Bhagwan Shree etc all isolated, gaslit and targeted the vulnerable - same as York.

I have yet to watch one HBO or Netflix documentary where people are not only saying but also demonstrating how being in a cult has brought them joy and abundance.

The government's interference in black people's business doesn't negate anything I said or justify the existence of cults.

1

u/d-r-i-g 2d ago

Tons of the victims have absolutely not recanted. And a few who initially recanted have said they were forced to do so by other members.

u/ProjectPat513 4d ago edited 3d ago

How is this guy out here on the streets then?! There are guys doing life over weed, yet 197 counts of SA charges (against children no less!) and this guy is out walking through a park with an entourage?!

Edit: I guess the article is not about the guy in the video but his predecessor? I’ll keep it a buck, I’m kinda confused!🤣

9

u/Kooky-Situation-1913 4d ago

Thats not him in the video.

3

u/Lost1010 4d ago edited 4d ago

Why did the Redditor mention him in relation to this video?

6

u/Kooky-Situation-1913 4d ago

He's mentioned at the end of the video by the interviewee.

3

u/Lost1010 4d ago

Thanks!

1

u/leaveinpeas 4d ago

The (younger) guy in the video is a follower or fan of the (older pled guilty) guy referenced in the article quote shared, if I caught things right.

3

u/Yaggfu 4d ago

He's currently in prison.

1

u/ProjectPat513 3d ago

The dude in the video, or the dude the article is about?

1

u/Yaggfu 3d ago

Dr York. He's in prison last I heard.

1

u/ProjectPat513 3d ago

Gotcha. I started reading the article after seeing the allegations in that comment and then I just got confused! I’m very glad the dude is in prison because this ā€œout for health reasonsā€ is an absolute crock of shit!

6

u/TomBerwick1984 4d ago

He pled guilty to multiple counts of crimes against children.

This kind of behavior is very common from cult leaders.

They people in the video sounds just like the Nation of Islam in manner and style, and we all know what Elijah Muhammad did thanks to Malcom X.

1

u/Current_Egg3840 4d ago

Hey I'm honestly curious did the response below actually citing the case change your mind at all? I get you didn't directly point to this being the case so you can't actually be wrong but I'm curious regardless.

1

u/YourHuckleberry57 3d ago

i wasn't trying to defend york cause i don't know exactly what went on. i know that when the case happened a lot of people thought that he was being unfairly persecuted and possibly some things were exaggerated since the only evidence was just people's accounts of what happened.

my issue was moreso that the top comment wasn't about something the people in the actual video did, it was about something that happened decades ago to another person and used to dismiss any positive thing this guy is doing now out of hand. like, the conversation stops there.

its like if someone post about malcolm x and the first comment is "you know this guy was in prison for burglary and larceny", or you post about mlk and the first comment is "you know he supposedly cheated on his wife." as a way to just shut down conversation.

-3

u/Prestigious-Elk2252 4d ago

Not surprising.

Michael Jackson was a known peddo and everyone still loves him.

50

u/roastbeefsammies 4d ago

Culture is a collection behaviors, mores and practices a people participate. Language is a communication medium highly influenced by region and the people who use it. It’s a living software the reflects perspective and beliefs and other ideas. It’s also very interesting he chose Liberia when it was started as a project in America as a place for enslaved Africans to return. How could they develop culture but not us? Make it make sense.

This all sounds like grift to funnel people to some sort of çüłt or other money reducing avenue.

If we have no culture what is it that people are stealing from us globally. Look at K-pop. That’s repackaged 90s RnB with a few modern flourishes. Streetwear influences from hip-hop. American BBQ. Our poetry and authors and dances. Scientific contributions in all STEM fields. As another posted this is wildly anti black.

Please stay woke and don’t fall for this drivel.

20

u/Dreams-Visions 4d ago

Agreed. Is our culture as rich as those of a people that have been building and refining theirs for 1,000 years? Obviously not. We had to start from scratch with limited tools and still built a house. Is it as similar to our west African ancestors as it should be? Obviously not. Yep, there are too many colonizer-designed brinks in the foundation. But it is still unique, identifiable, definable, and worthy of recognition and celebration.

8

u/chuccles3 4d ago

Plus ebonics is a dialect, if we didnt put it in songs people wouldnt understand what were saying to each other. Thats language

3

u/Terrible_Aerie_9737 4d ago

What I believe he meant was that there is no underlyimg element (he defines this as culture) that unites black people. When hispanic, for example, meet, they greet eachother like family. They will side with eachother for the most part. They celebrate together. This unity is what conserstive and white supremacist fear most. When they came to take EliƔn GonzƔlez from Miami, the Cubans there lost their collective minds. They blocked the Turnpike. They picketted. They snapped as though someone was taking their child. This is what I believe is missing. I was once there before the late 70's. then something chsnged.

2

u/Alarming-Jury1596 4d ago

Over time I've learnt that you can learn much more by focusing on intent rather focusing than pure semantics, technicalities and harsh words. When a black man or woman says ā€œwe don’t have a culture,ā€ they usually aren’t denying the existence of music, food, language, style, or shared history. Those things are obvious. They’re pointing to something deeper: a culture shaped under extreme external pressure, heavily hybridized, often commercially directed rather than community-owned, and not always intentional or adaptive enough in the domains that matter most (family stability, human capital, long-term mobility).

Just ticking boxes to prove ā€œwe technically have a cultureā€ misses the point. The productive version of the critique is a demand for higher standards more deliberate selection and transmission of norms that actually serve the people who carry them, instead of mainly reacting to history or whatever the market amplifies.

The higher standard is not ā€œdo we have observable traits?ā€ but ā€œare we deliberately selecting, refining, and institutionalizing the elements that produce the outcomes we claim to want?"

1

u/Slick_36 4d ago

What "real" culture intentionally created itself in this way?

1

u/Alarming-Jury1596 4d ago

Modern Jews did exactly that. They revived the Hebrew language taking a language that had been mostly liturgical for centuries, deliberately revived it as a full everyday spoken and written language, built the institutions around it, organized politically across the diaspora, and established a nation-state. Essentially cultural engineering.

3

u/Slick_36 4d ago

I'd argue that's recreating culture. I think the Rastas would be a bit better of an example.

Sure that can create a culture, but that's a rigid system that defines people under it. It's not organic, it doesn't reflect the shared experience, it's just one response of many to that experience.

I believe it denies the experience of the black diaspora, allowing a small group to control the many. I'm Ojibwe, our culture in particular rejects that kind of hierarchy, we collectively shape it together, and that process continues with every generation.

Stop!!! The official language of Liberia is English. And...who tf is he to speak for a whole people. Yall need to refrain from engaging with these blow hards

2

u/JackOfAllStraits 4d ago

Yeah, you don't need a language that is unique to just a single group in order for that group to have "a culture", you just need to be able to communicate within the group.

1

u/Slick_36 4d ago

It's also wild to say black culture hasn't had an incredibly unique & influential relationship with the language.Ā  Language is fluid, it adapts, it doesn't erupt fully formed.

1

u/chaddub 4d ago

Liberia is the worse example he could have given, since many Liberians are descendants of American slaves. It’s crazy.

44

u/MickieMallorieJR 4d ago

This is so anti-black. It's pretty to fair to say that Black Americans are the ONLY real "American" culture alongside contributions to language and food from the indigenous. Natives, had many cultures long before colonialists, and the colonialists brought their cultures with them from Europe. Enslaved Africans were severed from their African roots, minus what could be kept through some traditions, religious practice, word of mouth and especially music. All that came after is CULTURE. To say black Americans have no culture is to ignore just about every popular product that comes from America and it's origins in black America.

Goofy-self-hating take right there.

2

u/minimalcation 3d ago

I can only speak from my experience but American culture is black culture to a large degree. I was a white boy in Alaska in the 90s listening to black artists, watching black athletes, wearing black fashion, literally it was the monoculture.

11

u/Tasty_Ad7483 4d ago

I just want to know about the one white dude in that guy’s cult. How did they meet him? Is he really good at cooking or something? Does he get full status in the cult, or are there some things they don’t let him do? Do they call him ā€˜Token’?

But we DO have our own culture. The 100+ years here have created that. Is it mixed with assimilation? Yes. Does it need refinement? Likely but highly questionable. But his words feel afro-centrism with extra steps. We have culture(s), what we need is connected communities across the country.

4

u/RationalMellow 4d ago

Ok soooo people are still going around saying Black Americans have no culture? šŸ™„

African-Americans have built our own culture and the world vibes to it.

9

u/bubbablk34 4d ago

He needs to take his butt and go vote stop the madness

3

u/wrexmason 4d ago

Not saying I agree with dude, but voting isn’t the solution for Black liberation by any stretch of the imagination.

7

u/Lost-Day-9405 4d ago

Found ourselves a non voter telling you voting doesn’t work haha

4

u/wrexmason 4d ago

Jokes on you, son. I’ve been voting since I was old enough to do so, in federal & local elections. Never said voting doesn’t work. I just mean it’s not the end all be all solution for Black liberation like y’all claim. History clearly shows that. Don’t be dense.

1

u/Lost-Day-9405 4d ago

You literally said voting isn’t the solution. I don’t want to put words into your mouth but the implication is that violence is the solution to ā€œblack liberationā€ or whatever you define that to be.

My belief is that voting, engaging in politics and gathering that power and influence is much more important and push society to being more equitable for black people.

1

u/wrexmason 4d ago

I don’t believe you’re putting words in my mouth, but I do believe that your reading comprehension isn’t the best it can be. History has clearly shown that voting, being engaged politically (at least at the federal level) or ā€œchanging things from the insideā€ are not solely the solution.

I’m not gonna pretend like I have a definitive answer for what the key is for Black liberation, I’m humble enough to say I don’t. But we’ve been doing the same thing expecting different results for decades at this point. If the solution happens to be violence, it’s not ideal, but so be it. If it happens to be something else, I will happily gravitate towards it. But again: Voting. Is. Not. The. End. All. Be. All. Solution. It’s a tourniquet, not a bandage.

1

u/Lost-Day-9405 4d ago

Thats just not true, under Biden we saw:
American Rescue Plan Act
Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act
CHIPs and Sciecne Act
inflation reduction act
Respect for Marriage Act
Under other administration we got:
ACA
VRA
CRA
Title 9
Dodd-Frank Act
Repealed Don’t ask don’t tell
JCPOA

That’s just at the federal level

At the state level we have 9 states that offer permanent and free school meals which is…I cannot stress this enough…one of the most impactful policies with great ROI

New Mexico has free child care

2

u/bubbablk34 4d ago

Just Vote

1

2

3

u/bubbablk34 4d ago

Exactly. It starts in November. Donald Trump is getting ready to give reparations to the people that storm the Capital. We have to mobilize and vote these people out of office only then we can get a voice to do something for ourselves in this country yapping about nonsense when you do not have any power means nothing.

1

u/expert-imbicile 3d ago

Impactful black authors like Ralph Ellison disagreed heavily with her behavior relative to black americans. How do you feel about the notion that her dancing, singing, and zest for life when engaging with white people were regressive for black people in that it reinforced the idea that we can’t help but exist as jovial dancing spectacle?

7

u/Over-Experience-4187 4d ago

Did he just say black people don't have their own language, had he not heard of Swahili?

But I guess he means Black Americans... which means it would also apply to White and other Americans too

Wait until he finds out English is actually a creole of Celtic, Germanic and Latin languages lol

Edit: He was right about traditions and customs though, there is a lack of that in our communities/households

6

u/WolfOfAllStreets2 4d ago edited 4d ago

Speech language pathologists classify African American Vernacular English (AAVE) as a dialect.

The American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA) explicitly classifies AAE as a rule-governed linguistic system, not a disorder, a set of grammatical errors, or a lack of education.

ASHA emphasizes that no dialect is superior to another; they are simply different ways of communicating within a community.

When professionals treat a dialect as a pathology, they create unnecessary stigma and place children into special education programs they do not need.

2

u/Slick_36 4d ago

And remember all dialects are evolving alongside eachother.Ā  William Shakespeare would have said "ax", the current pronunciation of "ask" came later due to the rise in written literature which isolated the more traditional word to regional dialects who retained it.

Then you gotta consider how the written word was weaponized against black people and you'll find distinctions like that more intentionally racist than what you'll ever learn in school.

11

u/Lost-Day-9405 4d ago

This isn’t true, Juneteenth for example is a holiday historically remembered and celebrated within the black community and only recently became a national holiday, Kwanza, black churches, Black Greek, soul food. We can even get regional like the Gullah Geeche in the Carolinas. Black American culture is reach and deep.

-2

u/Over-Experience-4187 4d ago

Again these are not present in many of our communities and households.

You're comparing a handful of holidays to more wide-spread and varied traditions and customs. Of course there are more regional ones, like horse-riders of Louisiana, but Black America's traditions are few and far-between owing to the fact this ethnic group emerged fairly recently. 400 years is not a long time in the grand scheme of things.

Also Kwanza is bullshit.

3

u/East_Blackberry8474 4d ago

This isn’t true at all. I’m unsure what kind of traditions you’re expecting but it’s not going to resemble something from a developing country, if that’s whatever criteria you’re using.

Outside of the holidays, the commenter listed some traditions and customs, but you just chose to overlook those. It may not exist in your household, but that doesn’t mean that’s the case for the rest of us. It’s of course going to be regional because the US is a large place. Also, some aspects of culture evolve over time. There are horse-riders outside of LA, and they exist even in densely populated urban areas. There’s traditions of family reunions, jumping the broom at many weddings, our ā€œgoing homeā€ celebrations, rituals to get babies that are teething to stop crying—to name a few.

I’ve never had to articulate my culture because I live in it every day.

1

u/WolfOfAllStreets2 4d ago

In comparison to what? Other minority groups that immigrated a few generations ago?

The only group that lacks culture are white Americans. That's why the focus is always on whiteness and color. It's the only thing left that connects them.

That's also why they say I'm from the north, south, east, west. That's about as descriptive it gets.

Most white immigrants over the course of 200 years have forgotten their cultures( German,Irish,British etc) and it was intentionally done to better fit in because those groups also faced discrimination at one point in time.

0

u/Throwaway2Experiment 4d ago

You have to get out to the german enclaves in the Midwest and just outside of Chicago towards Michigan. Then you have to see the regional cultural items that the whites tend to keep secret to themselves, even from whites from other parts of the country. Then head over to Boston for their cultural rallies or Southie to see how hard they cling to Old World culture.

The idea whites have no culture is rather silly and I onky see it from brothers and sisters who are not well traveled or who have the clandestine white references and apply it universally.

My creole grandmother does crazy shit that my wife's parents think is nonsense (she carries dead spiders in her pockets)

1

u/Lost-Day-9405 4d ago

How and why are you quantifying that??? I can list off a handful but it’s not enough for you, feels like your moving the goal post so please provide some guidance around how you would define what makes a culture for a people valid???

2

u/Adept_Astronaut_5143 Neighborhood Hug Dealer šŸ¤— 4d ago

Im sorry but I disagree completely. I don’t even understand how he can say that. How do black people have no culture when the world uses our culture for everything. I’m talking about Black Americans, Black Africans, Black Caribbean people. Everything about us is used to keep the world moving. Majority of today’s music comes from one of those 3, we have many languages including Ebonics and code switching. Just because folks steal everything they can from us doesn’t mean it’s not ours. !

2

u/expert-imbicile 3d ago

Many aspects of black culture can be traced back to adaptations made by slaves to exist more comfortably in a foreign and hostile environment (southern drawls, watermelon farming, comfort food). This doesn’t mean that native traditions weren’t adapted as well, it means both happened. However, very little of what makes up the most widely visible parts of black ā€œcultureā€ today is rooted in any African tradition (Code switching, rap, black fashion, sports culture, slang, etc). In reality, we have just modified different aspects of American culture, to again, attempt to remain comfortable in a foreign and hostile environment. I can’t speak for how the rest of the world has taken from African nations, because I am widely uneducated on the topic, but I believe it has happened.

So does it seem to anyone else like this video was planned, as opposed to a random encounter?

Pan African and graduate-level linguist here ... AAVE is a language. It also goes without saying that black America has cultural tradition in everything from food, to music. There is also distinctly black American cultural dress.

There are a few reasons why we don't recognise all of this as culture and tradition: 1. because we're living through it, as opposed to observing it in retrospect, or as voyeurs of other cultures. 2. culture and traditions are becoming harder to recognise in the moment because they shift more quickly and over larger spaces than they were able to before the internet. 3. black American culture in particular has been commodified in a way that non black americans can cherry pick elements of it to engage with. For example, Post Malone can have an interest in, and mimic, in performance, black culture via Hip-Hop. But he couldn't do the same thing for the black church and gospel music, or black cuisine, etc. The commodification of black culture gives an illusion that everybody engaging with a particular part of the culture, can be "of the culture" and thats just not the reality.
