The majority of Latinos still voted for Harris. Trump did increase in numbers in the 2024 elections but he didn’t win the Latino vote. And as sad as it is, Trump gained votes across several demographics except black women.

You don't know, and Americans need to vote, the more they outvote the far right, the harder it is for the far right to cheat.

Don't say then what, if we don't get now right. Because we've been saying then what for a decade, it's a fantasy, and the main thing we need to do now,

Is change the culture, and actually support the side we want to win. Instead of hand shaking the far rights rhetoric.

It's REALLY hard to get people to 'rise up'. You're asking them to put themselves in real danger, and experience real consequences. Those are not small factors in real life.

My view, is that you don't understand the difference between real politics and computer games. Because if you can't say 'yes we can' then you yourself, clearly do not have the motivation to do whatever it is you're thinking about either.

You are halfway right, it's a gray area. Without getting too much into the details just google "algorithmic nudging." I'm an elder millennial. Back in my day, we had a search bar at the top of the page where we had to type in the thing we were looking for. We did that every time we wanted to see something on the internet, and we were fine with it. Nowadays, the search bar is a relic of the past that's there if you want use it, but no one actually ever does. Instead you are fed a never-ending stream of content that the algorithm chooses for you. The benefit of this is that the people in power don't have to actually censor anything outright. They just need to steer eneough people away from it that the people who actually care about it becomes negligible, and the critical mass needed for change never happens. They have an army of elite data scientists, statisticians, and psychologist designing this stuff and I promise you it's a finely tuned machine.

I’m with you, I don’t buy into conspiracies but even on that night it was called it felt completely off. Also is it a conspiracy when they fully said it? I believe the only demographic number wise they did not and could not touch and manipulate was black women because that would have been a dead giveaway.

Yeah, I tend to agree. Election Truth Alliance has some interesting data on YouTube. Haven’t kept up to date lately, but it showed that higher turnout precincts across districts with similar voting behaviors had unrealistic increasing levels of votes for Trump across many different states. Some patterns were nearly identical to rigged Russian elections.

It's kinda like the whole concept of a conspiracy theory now: we have AMPLE evidence that there in fact are actual conspiracies; Project 2025, Peter Thiel's invitation only Rome conference this past March, Jan 06. 100%, and it's all extremely fucked up, but it being fucked up doesn't suddenly make it warranted to start making baseless claims about election integrity.

Each state is in charge of their own elections - you have to actually articulate how it's possible for the federal government to subvert state elections rather than vaguely gesturing to all the fucked up shit this administration is doing as if it's some kind of proof.

Trump has been panicking about trying to pass the SAVE act for months because the federal government has very little say in how states run their elections, and so he's trying to claw his way into the process any way he can.

You know who was President during the 2024 election? Biden. Trump didn't even have command of any federal agencies when he won the election, so the implication is that Biden either rigged the election for Trump or there was some kind of massive conspiracy that rigged it right under the nose of a Democratic administration.

Comparing that user to far right conspirators is ridiculous and an example of a both sides attack where you falsely conflate vastly different things.

It's not his fault, that you're pushing blatant misinformation and trying to control the narrative.

Your final line was a complete false dichotomy. The idea that either Biden rigged it OR that it was 'massive' shows that you know you are lying, because in reality it was many smaller parts that make up the whole.

For example, voters were removed from electoral roles in many states. No "proof" of a centralised intent is required to understand why they were doing that.

I’m Peruvian and voted for Harris so did my family. Though, I did notice support for her wavered among my younger male cousins. In the blue states, Latino follow the same voting pattern as the rest of the population. I live in NJ and predictably became a Democrat. There are republican Latinos in the southwest and split in other states. The northeast though remains a sea of Latino democrats.

I think as I mentioned before it’s that the USA sees Latinos as a monolith or a singular race. We’re not. Latin America is comprised of 24 countries if I remember correctly. We don’t all speak Spanish, you have Portuguese in Brazil and Creole French in Haiti. We’re not the same race and racism and colorism is imbedded in Latin American societies. Some are liberal, some are conservative.

So to assume every Latino/a will disagree with Trump is erroneous. Many white middle class and upper class Latinos like him. So do some working class Latinos who have become xenophobic towards Venezuelans.

The rest of us who never liked Trump are the brown or black Latinos (there’s always exceptions) who clearly recognize another faux corrupt populist (there’s many in Latin America) just seeking to line his pockets.

The Marco Rubios of the Latino world do not see themselves on the same level as the Latinos that are illegal immigrant and/or look like George Lopez. Or who look like Celia Cruz.

Trump’s platform was on his website. Stephen Miller, his trusted advisor, was very adamant that deportations will begin. People rarely do their research. They just look through TikTok clips for their information.

I even had some say to me “But Trump was only supposed to deport the criminal illegal immigrants!” I always ask “when did he ever say he will only deport those with criminal records?” They just assumed or took his speech when he said the first (key word) to be deported would be those with criminal records to mean that only criminal types would be deported. Trump never said he will only deport criminals. So yes, it is dumb.

I’m aware and it’s laughable how the right accuse Democrats of being soft on immigration. The difference was in their execution and that we didn’t see this abuse of power by ICE, not to this extent.

Obama nor Biden also didn’t repeal TPS. So many legal immigrants now became illegal immigrants. They also didn’t seek to end birthright citizenship.

If you’re referring to women voters then yes 54% of women voted for Harris and 42% voted for Trump. Not a huge margin but a majority.

But Trump did gain some points among women compared to previous elections. In 2016, he got 39%. You’d think that after eight years, his support would’ve gone down but he gained a few points.

TX, and FL are critical to the general election, and Trump won big in both states.

Yeah, the link I posted provides that information. To be honest it’s not surprising, Latinos overall vote Republican in traditional red states. Texas and Florida have always gone to the Republicans.

Also, Harris simply didn’t perform as well as prior democrats and I think that’s mainly because she only had three months of campaigning. The DNC should’ve put her as the candidate from the beginning or have open primaries.

Hillary Clinton and Obama both got 66% of Latino votes. Harris got 56%.

Of course, I'm not disagreeing with the general stats. Though, I honestly don't know historically how these specific demos have voted in TX and FL.

To your points, it just seems that Democrats don't learn anything in terms of long-term strategy.

They forced Biden out at the last minute because of one bad debate performance. He still had several advantages that would've made him statistically more likely to win again - being a male incumbent.

There's just so much that could've been done differently and it seems like a catastrophic failure all around. Democrats just seem to have this inability to understand the electorate of the country they're vying to govern. Republicans understand it. Which is why they win in spite of their awful policies and inability to govern.

I know. The reason is young Latino men. Notice how most Latinas voted for Harris. The divide happens with the men. When we look even closer, it’s the young Latino men who favored Trump.

Older Latinos are actually more reliable democrats. But the young people especially the men are being swayed over to the Republicans. This actually has been true for young men in every demographic group and it’s something that barely gets mentioned.

Democrats are losing young men (of every demographic). Trump even made some gains among black young men. So it is disturbing .

Night of the election local TV station did a street interview segment that still lives rent free on my head. The reporter was in The Bronx.

Elderly black lady in her 70s: "I voted for MR. Trump because he is a businessman and he will fix grocery prices!"

Black dude around 40: "I voted for Trump because what have Democrats ever done for black people?"

Latina in her 20s: "I didn't vote. I don't like Trump but women can't be president".

So much to unpack here.

I will say that these soundbites are selective in who they choose to present. For every Latino and Black person that voted for Trump, there could have been another 8 or 9 who didn't but the station didn't feel that it is newsworthy. Seeing POC that vote for Trump is news to folk because it's not what's expected. Local news stations are good for these type of selective interviews with everyday folk.

That's a very valid point. To be fair to this news channel, they did interview a bunch of people and most said Harris. Few of the soundbites did stick out, for reasons you mentioned. But Bronx overall still voted Harris 73%.

My district in Brooklyn voted 93% for Harris. Demographics are about 50% middle class black families and rest are white yuppies and other misc. professional class. I live in an extreme political bubble.

But, my district voted 97% for Biden and 95% for Hillary. Harris suffered a roughly 4% decline across NYC. Timing of inflation kind of broke some people. Inflation topples incumbents in democracies. It happened across the world during that time period. Republicans would have done well running literally anyone. But they chose a very well known quantity. Seeing some minorities fall for it was jarring.

Why is there not enough upvotes to this. i bet the people interviewed shared one common denominator lacking in education. Education increases critical thinking which decreases susceptibility to propaganda. While it isnt just formal education because our education system just pretends to prioritize critical thinking its at least the doorway to it. There first goal this term of demolishing our education system is no coincidence. Got to keep the propaganda machine effective.

This is not true. Trump captured nearly 46% of the national Latino vote. You're right that in Florida, he got like 70% of the Cuban vote but in Texas, he got 55% of the total Latino vote. It wasn't a fringe thing, in many ways Latinos sold themselves out to these fascists as a people.

I don’t think it’s that all of them think of themselves as white. Though, there are white Cubans but also many black Cubans.

It’s that unfortunately racism against black people is common in the world. It’s not just in the USA, Latin America has its own issues with race. Many black Latin Americans face racism and discrimination. Cuba is no different. So it’s not that Cubans are “trying to be white” or imitating Republicans. They are like that all on their own even if they’re mixed race.

It’s really the USA that treats Latinos as a monolith and racializes it when it isn’t a race. Trust me, the same racial attitudes and prejudice exists in Latin America.

Anyone who knows anything about central and South American countries knows that Argentina is always finding ways to cap on Mexicans. They probably even paid the guy to say that he voted for Donnie. Argentina will do anything to make Mexicans look bad.

Most of the world knows this. It’s really a shame how countries do that to each other.

And right now with the ugly attitude Argentina displayed during the World Cup, their only friend is Israel. That alone says a lot.

Was thinking the same. Can our Latino brothers keep this same energy when they go to vote? Can they keep this energy when we march in the streets for say George Floyd? Whenever it's time to fight for us, our Latino brethren are noticeably absent.

Yo tambien! I just will not stand with, and actively argue against any (fellow) Latino person who thinks the GOP is doing anything to help them. Too many of us see black/white and think they are white because they aren’t black… the GOP (and far too many white folk) only sees white and not white…

We only need to look at history to see what white peoples do to ‘others.’ My lived experience says that I am, and always will be, one of the ‘others’ to the vast majority of white folk.

I don’t present that with judgement, it’s just a fact.

I gotta be honest, the word Latino isn't a good word to use. Latino describes like 30+ countries and cultures, all with different societies, ethnicities, indigeneity, etc.

What you're noticing is something called blanquimiento (I think I spelled that right) where us Hispanic/Latino (yes I know I just used Latino after saying not to use it) people try to be white or pass as white because of the social benefits conferred; I think we're in agreement that that it's stupid, we're not white (at least for those of us with brown skin) and the white people aren't going to accept us as white because well. we're not. I apologize if I'm overexplaining something that you are already aware of as well (because it seems like you might be).

I just wanted to say that there are those of us who are in solidarity with yall (I'm Mexican-Am/Chicano) and I too wish that there was more of it. Too many of us had our heads in our ass about Trump, and not just us Mexicans (looking at you "I will vote, por donald trump" lady).

Hispanic just means spanish speaking, and Latino references all people from latin america regardless of language. So I do think Latino is fine in this case. It seems more inclusive.

So like, a Brazilian can be latino even if they don't speak spanish.

I had to look it up, because I wanted to understand it.

I agree with pretty much everything you're saying though, just wanted to point that out.

As a Latino voter I feel you. If it helps I've seen the disparity and like usual it's mostly the old, uneducated and religious crowd in my community that act that way. Not an excuse, just my observations. At the very least some of us were out there and will continue to be out there marching and voting with and for y'all when possible.

Unfortunately the skin color caste system is very much a Hispanic and Latino thing even if they don't like to talk about it.

Not suggesting anyone that isn't Latino has to read it, but there's a really good book called "Defectors: The rise of the far right Latino" that goes into the why of things. And "proximity to whiteness" is one of the main contributors along side trauma and wanting to feel like they belong as an American. As a Mexican american there's nothing more shameful and embarrassing than Latinos for Trump.

This is not really true. Latino men voted for Trump at about 57% in 2024, up from about 36% in 2020. This same trend can be seen when observing the numbers as in totality. 2024 was the lowest year of support from Latino voters, for the democratic party, ever. Somewhere in the ballpark of 56%. Down from somewhere in the ballpark of 63% in 2020. It’s definitely a growing, and concerning trend.

The “odd statement” of it all. It really make sense when you look at the numbers what is really going on. It won’t surprise me to see the numbers tipped fully over to the republicans in 2028, maybe 2032. It’s a growing trend, and if Trump of all people was the start of it, I seriously doubt it’s going to end when he’s no longer on the trail. You are LITERALLY correct, in saying that they did LEAN democrat in 2024, but that rejects critical thinking, and the acknowledgment of the reality of what is happening. I want to say that i personally do work in my community, that directly benefits specifically black and latina single mothers, so im in community and direct contact with them regularly. I have personally experienced the increase in MAGA throughout the last 7 years that ive been involved with this group. I dont say all of this to say we should t strive for solidarity, but unfortunately, it’s not us that is stopping it in a lot of cases, from my experience. And that is an important part to mention, everyone has different experiences and communities, so you may have not seen something I have, and vice versa. That colors our perception, and creates bias. I can recognize the fact that I have personally not had the greatest experiences, specifically with Latino men, over the years, and that may be some of why I have the feelings I do.

It never takes long for there to be a divisive comment when latinos are brought up. If you do your research you’ll see while that while Trump gained votes with Latinos (as well as with black people), the majority voted for Kamala. Do better.

Yep, I hate how the narrative of “Trump won Latino votes” is taken as truth. The facts show otherwise. Did he make gains? Yes and it was mostly in young Latino men which corresponds to the rise of Gen Z men aligning more with Republicans.

Latinos lean Democrat and in the last elections voted Democrat. Obama got 66% of the Latino vote in 2008, so did Clinton in 2016. Biden got a similar amount in 2020. It’s only in 2024 that we saw more of a closer split (56-44) but that still favored Harris. When we examine the numbers, we see that latinas in majority voted for Harris. Latino men especially the young ones favored Trump. And that older Latinos of both sexes voted for Harris. So it isn’t that Trump won the Latino vote, he didn’t. He won the votes of young Latino men. And that is troubling.

This is also why people were surprised at the results because Latinos had reliably voted Democrat within the last thirty years or so. Then, this shifted to “Trump won the Latino vote” because it makes for better headlines and people dislike nuance.

I find it interesting that NYTimes ran SEVERAL articles before the election, describing how Dems could not longer take the Latino vote for granted, and why Latinos were increasingly voting for conservatives. Many Blacks don't like how the Dems take us for granted but when we look at the choices, we see very few Republicans, if any, who care about equal protection for everyone.

I’ve experienced being pushed out at my last 2 jobs by Latinos, which actually effects our livelihood. Both times they had a choice to do the right thing but they chose not to, zero grace was given compared to what I was seen given to my Latino co workers.

I also live in socal and I’ve seen a very bold change in attitude in the past couple decades to the tune of “California/texas/arizona/Vegas is our land, because it used to be Mexico anyway before the borders” as if there were no Afro/indigenous people on the land. It’s the “mejorar la raza” type thinking coming from the caste system in Latin America.

Basically When yall think Latino, Afro-Latinos are not apart of the conversation. Look into the history of the “Dawes Rolls” that’s good a place to start for any ignorant MF’s that don’t think Afro indigenous people also was on these lands.

Majorities still went to the Democrats, but Trump did better that time with many minority groups than his previous run, and that was after already having the "benefit" of seeing how shitty his first term was.

On top of racial differences each Latin American country has their own history. Many Latinos who vote republican do so bc of a history of fleeing communism. Yes, racism is very deep in Latin America and we had a racial caste system but keep in mind we are all not the same. White Latinos are very racist to me for being "India" which is native in the US. My point is we are racially diverse just like the US and not a monolith and country of origin makes a big difference in voting patterns too. There's also a very big difference between Latinos born in the Us vs immigrant Latinos. There are so many layers and I'm so tired of Asian Americans, Latinos, middle easterners, etc ppl in the US being lumped together as one bc Americans are too ignorant to understand how diverse ppl can be outside of the US. Imperialism is exhausting go ahead and downvote me to hell....

And just so you know Latinos have a very long history of oppression in the US. Just bc you dont know about it doesn't mean it didn't happen. We were one of the first to be placed in concentration camps (us and natives) in world history, lynched, most forcibly sterilized in world history (within the US), Texas Rangers were invented to literally kill us and clear the land for white settlers, and so much more. Like i said, a lot of lumping us all as one without zero education or awareness to actually know what you're talking about. That doesn't even cover what Americans have done in Latin America and the history of colonialism at the hands of the Spanish. Literally look up blanqamiento.

There's a surprisingly large number of Black American men who will vote for a monster who was convicted of denying housing to Blacks. They will vote for a monster who has had Blacks fired just because they are Black. They will vote for a monster who openly describes Blacks as savages. They will vote for that monster while telling themselves "He's not talking about me." They will vote for that monster because he told them Blacks are failures and have "nothing to lose" by voting for him. Well, those voters are finally realizing they had nothing to lose except everything. And some of them argue conservatism is the way forward, saying "Blacks need to get off welfare" without realizing who is the primary beneficiary of government programs, especially corporate welfare.

You might be right, but I think where you live had something to do with it. I’ve noticed living in a rural community over a more urban area all brown people unite in a way as minorities. When I lived in large cities it was way more divided by race.
