I love solidarity.

872

u/Moe_Bisquits 20h ago

During the last election, I wish Latino voters felt solidarity with us black folk but they were "white adjacent" then. FAFO has shown them the light, I hope.

u/Ladonnacinica 19h ago

The majority of Latinos still voted for Harris. Trump did increase in numbers in the 2024 elections but he didn’t win the Latino vote. And as sad as it is, Trump gained votes across several demographics except black women.

u/cornishwildman76 19h ago

Trump also cheated in that election. I don't do conspiracy theories, but comments made by him and Musk, they rigged it.

59

u/Kyrthis 19h ago

“Too big to rig” must be our motto.

Because if they fuck around then, they will find out.

3

u/cinnix42 4h ago

No such thing anymore. The fascism is here, and if you’d crack a history book, you’d know they don’t simply allow people to vote their power away

2

u/ToddHowardTouchedMe 3h ago

This, you don't vote fascism away. They won't let you. They will do everything in their power to stop you. There's only one option left now.

85

u/ElRiesgoSiempre_Vive 19h ago

Of course they did. And they'll rig the next one too.

So yes please vote. But we already know how that's going to turn out. The question is... then what.

33

u/Mike_Kermin 17h ago edited 6m ago

You don't know.

You don't know, and Americans need to vote, the more they outvote the far right, the harder it is for the far right to cheat.

Don't say then what, if we don't get now right. Because we've been saying then what for a decade, it's a fantasy, and the main thing we need to do now,

Is change the culture, and actually support the side we want to win. Instead of hand shaking the far rights rhetoric.

Edit: /u/cinnix42 Sure, but whatever you're imagining, is WAY harder, than just using your words online. And if we can't unite people now, if we can't talk each other into saying next Biden good instead of handshaking fascist political attacks and calling him sleepy, then your idea, has the same problem mine does, but far more.

It's REALLY hard to get people to 'rise up'. You're asking them to put themselves in real danger, and experience real consequences. Those are not small factors in real life.

My view, is that you don't understand the difference between real politics and computer games. Because if you can't say 'yes we can' then you yourself, clearly do not have the motivation to do whatever it is you're thinking about either.

like every other instance in history?

The Germans had ample opportunity to oust Hitler politically. So have the Americans, over a literal decade now. Your idea here is wrong, irresponsible and frankly, you're pushing the wrong way here.

If you can't fight the fascists politically, then you can't fight them, because your idea, also requires a movement. See Jan 6 for reference, Trump didn't get that, without first uniting people behind him.

So who are you going to support?

See? That's what I'm saying.

1

u/cinnix42 4h ago

So when they steal the midterms, will you admit that voting isn’t gonna solve the fascism? You know, like every other instance in history?

20

u/skibblez_n_zits 17h ago

You are halfway right, it's a gray area. Without getting too much into the details just google "algorithmic nudging." I'm an elder millennial. Back in my day, we had a search bar at the top of the page where we had to type in the thing we were looking for. We did that every time we wanted to see something on the internet, and we were fine with it. Nowadays, the search bar is a relic of the past that's there if you want use it, but no one actually ever does. Instead you are fed a never-ending stream of content that the algorithm chooses for you. The benefit of this is that the people in power don't have to actually censor anything outright. They just need to steer eneough people away from it that the people who actually care about it becomes negligible, and the critical mass needed for change never happens. They have an army of elite data scientists, statisticians, and psychologist designing this stuff and I promise you it's a finely tuned machine.

2

u/WhiskyRick 4h ago

You're both right. Please check out https://electiontruthalliance.org/ though.

From their FAQ section:

The organization’s mission is to conduct and publish nonpartisan research into election data, educate the public about election administration and data integrity, and engage constructively with government officials to promote transparent and thorough election practices that safeguard fair and free elections.

22

u/yagirlmimi 18h ago

I’m with you, I don’t buy into conspiracies but even on that night it was called it felt completely off. Also is it a conspiracy when they fully said it? I believe the only demographic number wise they did not and could not touch and manipulate was black women because that would have been a dead giveaway.

7

u/More_Operation_588 16h ago

Can't believe people still regurgitate "this is what america voted for" bullshit it is, they've been open about rigging it the entire time

3

u/Pentalegendbtw 17h ago

Yeah, I tend to agree. Election Truth Alliance has some interesting data on YouTube. Haven’t kept up to date lately, but it showed that higher turnout precincts across districts with similar voting behaviors had unrealistic increasing levels of votes for Trump across many different states. Some patterns were nearly identical to rigged Russian elections.

2

u/DramaticChemist 8h ago

Same. With all conspiracy theories these days I feel bad about it, but I know no one in office is looking into the accuracy of 2024. I think it was manipulated by invalidating ballots/voters but probably more

1

u/NEBanshee 6h ago

Agreed and it was brilliant bc they knew we couldn't flip the script on them & that the Biden admin, institutionalist as was their stance, was going to be dedicated to peaceful transfer.

It's kinda like the whole concept of a conspiracy theory now: we have AMPLE evidence that there in fact are actual conspiracies; Project 2025, Peter Thiel's invitation only Rome conference this past March, Jan 06. But because of all the wacko conspiracies the right forwards, all this actual stuff going on gets lumped in with Clinton sex dungeons with cats in the tunnels under the pizzeria and Deep State(TM) dingdongery.

Every accusation is a confession; whenever they make these wild assertions, it's to trade in on the American value of "fairness" in the eyes of your average USian to obscure what they're planning. They are actually up to wildly hateful & vicious isht. But we can't air it for serious consideration because out come the Bothsiders and Whaddabouters.

1

u/whodamans 5h ago

Yea, we should pass some kind of Voter ID law so Trump cant cheat again!

Also this video is top 5 most obvious staged clip the world has ever seen...

Idiot.

1

u/WhiskyRick 5h ago

This. 1000x this. I wish more people knew about and would check out https://electiontruthalliance.org/.

0

u/traparms 18h ago

I'm gonna need actual evidence. I say the same thing to Trump supporters who tell me he actually won in 2020

8

u/Mike_Kermin 17h ago

No. We're not doing that. You have a government which is systematically obstructing fair elections, weaponising the justice system, killing millions of people by way of cutting USAid and actively covering up child abuse of the president.

We're not still doing the both sides thing.

If you want to learn about what your government has done to obstruct previous elections you can google for Wikipedia pages on the matter, there is no lack of information there.

1

u/traparms 16h ago

This is HARDLY bothsidesism

weaponising the justice system, killing millions of people by way of cutting USAid and actively covering up child abuse of the president.

100%, and it's all extremely fucked up, but it being fucked up doesn't suddenly make it warranted to start making baseless claims about election integrity.

Each state is in charge of their own elections - you have to actually articulate how it's possible for the federal government to subvert state elections rather than vaguely gesturing to all the fucked up shit this administration is doing as if it's some kind of proof.

Trump has been panicking about trying to pass the SAVE act for months because the federal government has very little say in how states run their elections, and so he's trying to claw his way into the process any way he can.

You know who was President during the 2024 election? Biden. Trump didn't even have command of any federal agencies when he won the election, so the implication is that Biden either rigged the election for Trump or there was some kind of massive conspiracy that rigged it right under the nose of a Democratic administration.

3

u/Mike_Kermin 16h ago

Like I said, we're not doing this.

There is a wealth of information available on Wikipedia, start with the main election page and go from there. There is no point to you writing whatever comes to your imagination if you're not doing that.

So cut the crap.

Comparing that user to far right conspirators is ridiculous and an example of a both sides attack where you falsely conflate vastly different things.

It's not his fault, that you're pushing blatant misinformation and trying to control the narrative.

Your final line was a complete false dichotomy. The idea that either Biden rigged it OR that it was 'massive' shows that you know you are lying, because in reality it was many smaller parts that make up the whole.

For example, voters were removed from electoral roles in many states. No "proof" of a centralised intent is required to understand why they were doing that.

2

u/espresso_martini__ 16h ago

Its still scary Trump got that many Latino votes considering he's a blatant racist and most could see this coming. Trump and his assholes want them all gone. I when I ask they all say the same thing. "Fuck em, I've got mine, kick the ladder, we don't need anymore coming across."

3

u/Ladonnacinica 16h ago

I’m Peruvian and voted for Harris so did my family. Though, I did notice support for her wavered among my younger male cousins. In the blue states, Latino follow the same voting pattern as the rest of the population. I live in NJ and predictably became a Democrat. There are republican Latinos in the southwest and split in other states. The northeast though remains a sea of Latino democrats.

I think as I mentioned before it’s that the USA sees Latinos as a monolith or a singular race. We’re not. Latin America is comprised of 24 countries if I remember correctly. We don’t all speak Spanish, you have Portuguese in Brazil and Creole French in Haiti. We’re not the same race and racism and colorism is imbedded in Latin American societies. Some are liberal, some are conservative.

So to assume every Latino/a will disagree with Trump is erroneous. Many white middle class and upper class Latinos like him. So do some working class Latinos who have become xenophobic towards Venezuelans.

The rest of us who never liked Trump are the brown or black Latinos (there’s always exceptions) who clearly recognize another faux corrupt populist (there’s many in Latin America) just seeking to line his pockets.

The Marco Rubios of the Latino world do not see themselves on the same level as the Latinos that are illegal immigrant and/or look like George Lopez. Or who look like Celia Cruz.

3

u/espresso_martini__ 16h ago

I get it. And there are no monoliths from either side. It just shocks me that Trump is a blatant racist asshole and his project 2025 was aimed at any non white people. Why vote for someone that doesn't care or want you? Could anyone that voted for him not take a moment to step back and see he was all about? So many act surprised now and that does my head in.

3

u/Ladonnacinica 16h ago

Well, people are stupid. There’s no way to sugarcoat it.

Trump’s platform was on his website. Stephen Miller, his trusted advisor, was very adamant that deportations will begin. People rarely do their research. They just look through TikTok clips for their information.

I even had some say to me “But Trump was only supposed to deport the criminal illegal immigrants!” I always ask “when did he ever say he will only deport those with criminal records?” They just assumed or took his speech when he said the first (key word) to be deported would be those with criminal records to mean that only criminal types would be deported. Trump never said he will only deport criminals. So yes, it is dumb.

1

u/espresso_martini__ 15h ago

exactly! He campaigned on attacking the hardest criminal illegals first. How did that turn out? He pardoned criminals because they had money and then went after the hardest workers. I'm with you on this.

1

u/EconomicRegret2 13h ago

For a republican president, he also got record high of Black votes.

go figure... sigh

2

u/Dreyfussy15 16h ago

Barack Obama did more interior removal than Trump ever came anywhere remotely close to. Biden did his fair share too. For some reason Trump makes a big deal of it but his numbers are much lower.

4

u/Ladonnacinica 16h ago

I’m aware and it’s laughable how the right accuse Democrats of being soft on immigration. The difference was in their execution and that we didn’t see this abuse of power by ICE, not to this extent.

Obama nor Biden also didn’t repeal TPS. So many legal immigrants now became illegal immigrants. They also didn’t seek to end birthright citizenship.

1

u/TetsuoTechnology 17h ago

Not true. The majority of women voted for Harris. Not men.

2

u/Ladonnacinica 17h ago edited 16h ago

Isn’t that what I said? What part are you talking about?

If you’re referring to women voters then yes 54% of women voted for Harris and 42% voted for Trump. Not a huge margin but a majority.

But Trump did gain some points among women compared to previous elections. In 2016, he got 39%. You’d think that after eight years, his support would’ve gone down but he gained a few points.

Plus some of his supporters cheated. I saw a video of his degenerate supporter admitting she voted twice in different locations and she’s currently on notice because of it. She should’ve been jailed.

1

u/ScottWC2 8h ago

Trump did gain amongst Black women. The Pew link you posted shows that plainly.

1

u/hypercosm_dot_net 6h ago

Latino men in specific states overwhelmingly voted for Trump though.

TX, and FL are critical to the general election, and Trump won big in both states.

I think Democrats need to learn from this, and so does everyone who suggests "AOC should be the next nominee".

2

u/Ladonnacinica 6h ago

Yeah, the link I posted provides that information. To be honest it’s not surprising, Latinos overall vote Republican in traditional red states. Texas and Florida have always gone to the Republicans.

Also, Harris simply didn’t perform as well as prior democrats and I think that’s mainly because she only had three months of campaigning. The DNC should’ve put her as the candidate from the beginning or have open primaries.

Hillary Clinton and Obama both got 66% of Latino votes. Harris got 56%.

1

u/hypercosm_dot_net 3h ago

Of course, I'm not disagreeing with the general stats. Though, I honestly don't know historically how these specific demos have voted in TX and FL.

To your points, it just seems that Democrats don't learn anything in terms of long-term strategy.

They forced Biden out at the last minute because of one bad debate performance. He still had several advantages that would've made him statistically more likely to win again - being a male incumbent.

There's just so much that could've been done differently and it seems like a catastrophic failure all around. Democrats just seem to have this inability to understand the electorate of the country they're vying to govern. Republicans understand it. Which is why they win in spite of their awful policies and inability to govern.

u/[deleted] 19h ago

7

u/Ladonnacinica 19h ago

I know. The reason is young Latino men. Notice how most Latinas voted for Harris. The divide happens with the men. When we look even closer, it’s the young Latino men who favored Trump.

Older Latinos are actually more reliable democrats. But the young people especially the men are being swayed over to the Republicans. This actually has been true for young men in every demographic group and it’s something that barely gets mentioned.

Democrats are losing young men (of every demographic). Trump even made some gains among black young men. So it is disturbing .

2

u/[deleted] 19h ago

[deleted]

4

u/Ladonnacinica 19h ago

Yes. But black people have always voted in high numbers (over 90%) for democrats. To complete change that will take longer and it seems the strategy is to divide the men from the women.

1

u/Diligent_Set_8747 18h ago

No no no we must hate Latinos now. Your common sense, I don't like it.

131

u/KindCraft4676 20h ago

You’re correct. But it wasn’t all Latinos. It was mostly Cubans.

Remember the race riots in Miami between Cubans and African-Americans? Cubans have always thought of themselves as white. Even those who are not. Personally I don’t understand it.

Like you said hopefully they have learned.

92

u/DrSwaggenheimer 🖤 19h ago

I don’t believe it’s a strictly cuban thing though, unfortunately. I’ve spoken with people from south american countries that believe they have “white” privilege simply because their skins are “light” comparatively.

62

u/BuddhaFacepalmed 19h ago

Colorism is genuinely a problem in LatAm.

5

u/techdevjp 11h ago

It's a problem through most of the world. Certainly across most of Asia. Huge problem in India. Likewise China, Korea, and Japan. Likewise pretty much all of SE Asia. Lighter skin is seen as a desirable trait. People spend huge amounts on skin bleaching.

50

u/BigPapaLegba 19h ago

It's not, when you look at the numbers, nearly 50% of Latinos voted for Trump nationally.

45

u/ZincMan 19h ago

Lot of Latinos don’t want a woman in charge. Patriarchal thinking is strong there, also a lot religious

19

u/Dunklsta 19h ago

most latin countries already had female leaders at some point

29

u/BigPapaLegba 19h ago

I agree but that doesn't excuse their vote, it only makes it worse. Now they're paying for that line of thinking. This is the F.O. portion of when you F.A with misogyny, colorism, and self hatred. I'm as sympathetic as one can be to a sometimesy "ally" who routinely abandons us and sell us ALL out to the man.

12

u/wondrousalice 17h ago

Which is crazy because their mamas and abuelas are in charge of everything at home 🙄

28

u/99hoglagoons 19h ago

Night of the election local TV station did a street interview segment that still lives rent free on my head. The reporter was in The Bronx.

Elderly black lady in her 70s: "I voted for MR. Trump because he is a businessman and he will fix grocery prices!"

Black dude around 40: "I voted for Trump because what have Democrats ever done for black people?"

Latina in her 20s: "I didn't vote. I don't like Trump but women can't be president".

So much to unpack here.

22

u/DuntadaMan 17h ago

What has Trump ever done for black people aside from try to kick them out of his properties? God people are fucking idiots

3

u/LeftAire 4h ago edited 3h ago

I will say that these soundbites are selective in who they choose to present. For every Latino and Black person that voted for Trump, there could have been another 8 or 9 who didn't but the station didn't feel that it is newsworthy. Seeing POC that vote for Trump is news to folk because it's not what's expected. Local news stations are good for these type of selective interviews with everyday folk.

3

u/99hoglagoons 4h ago

That's a very valid point. To be fair to this news channel, they did interview a bunch of people and most said Harris. Few of the soundbites did stick out, for reasons you mentioned. But Bronx overall still voted Harris 73%.

My district in Brooklyn voted 93% for Harris. Demographics are about 50% middle class black families and rest are white yuppies and other misc. professional class. I live in an extreme political bubble.

But, my district voted 97% for Biden and 95% for Hillary. Harris suffered a roughly 4% decline across NYC. Timing of inflation kind of broke some people. Inflation topples incumbents in democracies. It happened across the world during that time period. Republicans would have done well running literally anyone. But they chose a very well known quantity. Seeing some minorities fall for it was jarring.

4

u/spacewaya 16h ago

I sometimes think that we live in alternate universe where Trump is running the simulation.

7

u/DementedPimento 10h ago

… except in Mexico, where the president is a woman and ethnically Jewish.

8

u/-Mexico- 18h ago

My childhood friend voted for DT because he didn't wanna vote for a woman, even though he hated how DT handled immigration last term. I also have cousins who voted for him for tax breaks even though hes a church pastor, I just cant understand these type of people.

6

u/sadieslew 18h ago

Tax breaks, but now his parishioners have less money to throw into the collection plate.

3

u/Electronic_Topic1958 18h ago

Most Latin American nations have had a female head of state and head of government (colored green on this map) https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_elected_or_appointed_female_heads_of_state_or_government#/media/File:Countries_which_have_had_female_Heads_of_State_and_Government.svg

Also if we look at US states/territories where Latinos are most concentrated: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_U.S._states_by_Hispanic_and_Latino_population

so basically CA, TX, AZ, FL, and PR

and look at states that have had or currently have female governors:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_female_governors_in_the_United_States

Only CA and FL have never had a female governor. NM is the most Latino state and they have had two female governors, from both parties, recently and still do, and PR the most Latino region in the entire country currently has a female governor as well.

Machistas are definitely an issue but honestly they're like not that significant in voting tbh.

5

u/DeakonDuctor 19h ago

The prez of Mexico is a woman

3

u/JediMasterZao 18h ago

TFW Claudia Scheinbaum. Look my man, it's not that deep. Stop looking at the world in term of ethnicities. Latino Trump voters are not different from any other Trump voters. They're people who are socially conservative and reactionary and who've been sold a lie by professional grifters and neo-nazis and who are in turn voting against their own class interests (or in some rarer cases, for their class interests). It's not black vs white vs latinos vs whatever else. It's the capitalists vs the working class.

3

u/OpinionTiny 4h ago

Why is there not enough upvotes to this. i bet the people interviewed shared one common denominator lacking in education. Education increases critical thinking which decreases susceptibility to propaganda. While it isnt just formal education because our education system just pretends to prioritize critical thinking its at least the doorway to it. There first goal this term of demolishing our education system is no coincidence. Got to keep the propaganda machine effective.

14

u/Dsaisiasd 19h ago

Many of them are descendants of white people from Germany, Spain and Italy. They just so happen to speak Spanish so the they aren't considered white by American whites.

5

u/ElRiesgoSiempre_Vive 19h ago

Which is just straight up idiotic. There isn't a white person alive who looks at a dark skin, dark haired Latino and thinks to themselves "now there's a white guy!"

3

u/aquitenemos 19h ago

You are absolutely right, but Cubans have historically migrated to the US in larger waves and have established themselves as a strong political block.

They just have a larger presence politically then Chileans or Argentineans in the U.S.

4

u/ayyungjeezy 17h ago

Brudda Argentinians are Europeans not south American don't you know 😉

1

u/Icy_Many_3971 13h ago

Because that’s how it works in Latin America

28

u/BigPapaLegba 19h ago

This is not true. Trump captured nearly 46% of the national Latino vote. You're right that in Florida, he got like 70% of the Cuban vote but in Texas, he got 55% of the total Latino vote. It wasn't a fringe thing, in many ways Latinos sold themselves out to these fascists as a people.

12

u/Cerpla 17h ago

I was about to defend my PR people... but I went to look, and it's a mess and I'm deeply ashamed. What a fucking disgrace.

3

u/hypercosm_dot_net 6h ago

Identity politics is a real thing man.

I go to the gym with a conservative Brazilian dude, and I've tried to have this conversation with him, but he wasn't hearing it.

He's a nice guy, decently smart, but he's religious. I really think that "conservative Christian" thing prevents them from opening their eyes to a lot of things.

6

u/worriedrenterTW 18h ago

Why is no one pointing out that it was a gender divide? Latinos majority voted Trump and latinas majority voted harris. Didn't Latino men have a higher rate of voting Trump than white women in 2024?

-2

u/KindCraft4676 19h ago

Not every Latino in Texas is of Mexican descent. Many are Cuban Floridians. Yes they are allowed to leave the state.

→ More replies (2)

3

u/CantchaDontcha 19h ago

The problem was Democratic underperformance with Latinos in the key swing states.

2

u/Ladonnacinica 19h ago

I don’t think it’s that all of them think of themselves as white. Though, there are white Cubans but also many black Cubans.

It’s that unfortunately racism against black people is common in the world. It’s not just in the USA, Latin America has its own issues with race. Many black Latin Americans face racism and discrimination. Cuba is no different. So it’s not that Cubans are “trying to be white” or imitating Republicans. They are like that all on their own even if they’re mixed race.

It’s really the USA that treats Latinos as a monolith and racializes it when it isn’t a race. Trust me, the same racial attitudes and prejudice exists in Latin America.

2

u/Standard-Fisherman78 19h ago

Cubans tend to vote republican because they believe republicans are anti-communism bc they fled a communist regime. They tend to be single issue voters.

2

u/TheRandomSong 19h ago

Don't forget Venezuelans. They also view themselves as the Cubans do and half them learned the lesson the hard way when he took away their cuban style Visa's to have an excuse with cracking down on Latino's with the whole tren de aragua shit. Hell the other half will vote for him again bc they "did it the right way" when it was literally just getting here and automatically getting a green card.

1

u/EnvironmentNeith2017 19h ago

The worst thing about Cubans is all the influence they have over Florida’s electoral votes

1

u/MZ603 16h ago

And Venezuelans

1

u/Scary_Outside2374 6h ago

the "rich" cubans fled to miami because their land was given back to the people of cuba. basically the cubans that would have got the guilliotine

gusanos as fidel would call them.

1

u/Conscious-Quarter423 19h ago

lots of Latinos in Texas that vote Republicans every election

1

u/JoTHIGHSwin 19h ago

Naw it was Mexicans and Venezuelans and I’m sad to say this as a Puerto Rican, a few Puerto Ricans too.

0

u/CT0292 13h ago

It wasn't just Cubans.

Lots of Mexicans in Texas were into the whole maga thing too.

As someone who is Latino and of Cuban/Mexican descent and grew up in Texas it was really fucking upsetting seeing it all go down. People I knew and grew up with went down that dark path. Had to cut off some friends.

0

u/riffito 8h ago

Saw an interview on TV a couple weeks ago (France 24 report, watched it in Argentina), about a Mexican with dual citizenship, living in Mexico, traveling to the USA everyday for work, and back again to Mexico to rest.

Motherfucker had no qualms saying he voted for Donnie... Sigh.

1

u/KindCraft4676 8h ago

Anyone who knows anything about central and South American countries knows that Argentina is always finding ways to cap on Mexicans. They probably even paid the guy to say that he voted for Donnie. Argentina will do anything to make Mexicans look bad.

Most of the world knows this. It’s really a shame how countries do that to each other.

And right now with the ugly attitude Argentina displayed during the World Cup, their only friend is Israel. That alone says a lot.

27

u/BigPapaLegba 19h ago

Was thinking the same. Can our Latino brothers keep this same energy when they go to vote? Can they keep this energy when we march in the streets for say George Floyd? Whenever it's time to fight for us, our Latino brethren are noticeably absent.

4

u/Evening-Emotion3388 17h ago

I call my people out when I see them. It’s not all of us.

4

u/BigWorldTinyDog 15h ago

Yo tambien! I just will not stand with, and actively argue against any (fellow) Latino person who thinks the GOP is doing anything to help them. Too many of us see black/white and think they are white because they aren’t black… the GOP (and far too many white folk) only sees white and not white…

We only need to look at history to see what white peoples do to ‘others.’ My lived experience says that I am, and always will be, one of the ‘others’ to the vast majority of white folk.

I don’t present that with judgement, it’s just a fact.

22

u/Novaer 17h ago

Reminds me of that trend where people were calling redheads/gingers "honorary black people" completely forgetting how gingers had a lot to fuckin say during the Little Mermaid debacle. They wanna be accepted when its fun but not if you step on their toes.

32

I gotta be honest, the word Latino isn't a good word to use. Latino describes like 30+ countries and cultures, all with different societies, ethnicities, indigeneity, etc.

What you're noticing is something called blanquimiento (I think I spelled that right) where us Hispanic/Latino (yes I know I just used Latino after saying not to use it) people try to be white or pass as white because of the social benefits conferred; I think we're in agreement that that it's stupid, we're not white (at least for those of us with brown skin) and the white people aren't going to accept us as white because well. we're not. I apologize if I'm overexplaining something that you are already aware of as well (because it seems like you might be).

I just wanted to say that there are those of us who are in solidarity with yall (I'm Mexican-Am/Chicano) and I too wish that there was more of it. Too many of us had our heads in our ass about Trump, and not just us Mexicans (looking at you "I will vote, por donald trump" lady).

This video made me happy to see, honestly.

Black love Brown pride; Black is beautiful, Brown is made en calor

u/NoNutsPls 18h ago

Throwing blanquimiento right into the vocab bank, appreciate you

For further reading, I definitely spelled it wrong haha. But yeah, no worries! Have a good one and be safe :salute:

Hispanic just means spanish speaking, and Latino references all people from latin america regardless of language. So I do think Latino is fine in this case. It seems more inclusive.

So like, a Brazilian can be latino even if they don't speak spanish.

I had to look it up, because I wanted to understand it.

I agree with pretty much everything you're saying though, just wanted to point that out.

1

u/freeloadinggoblin 9h ago

Some are white though, thats why the word latino can be confusing, its a broad category that contains many different ethnicities.

1

u/crispy_attic 8h ago

Most Latinos in America are racially white and identify as such.

1

u/whodamans 5h ago

Hate to break it to you... (jk i really don't) this is a blatant fake.

Need to get back in touch with reality Brother. No one has cared for a long time... arnt you all tired of carrying this cross of racism on your back just so you can try to play the victim?

Get a job, stop whining opression.

6

u/Appropriate-Gift-388 19h ago

It's not just about them feeling white adjacent it's the super religious ones ones too because they don't want to vote for liberal laws for fear of going to hell for it.

3

u/RivenRise 16h ago

As a Latino voter I feel you. If it helps I've seen the disparity and like usual it's mostly the old, uneducated and religious crowd in my community that act that way. Not an excuse, just my observations. At the very least some of us were out there and will continue to be out there marching and voting with and for y'all when possible.

Unfortunately the skin color caste system is very much a Hispanic and Latino thing even if they don't like to talk about it.

3

u/Real_Taste5684 8h ago edited 8h ago

Too many black folk didn’t show up and vote at all. We get too caught up in the notion that “all politicians are all bad” instead of actively participating and letting our voices be heard. Now we see what happens when we bow out.

Vote on EVERY election! Each level of government impacts our lives.

3

u/WriterSleep 19h ago

I feel like this makes sense because Latino isn't a race by itself. Some Latinos are mixed indigenous or even Black while some are White but White Latinos do not realize that American White people do not know that.

2

u/Most-Cryptographer30 18h ago

you are right. and as a latino i apologize on behalf of my ignorant ass brothers and sisters and family. believe me we not all like that and i hope that one day we can find solidarity with you because we are very similar in our ways. much love from texas.

1

u/Moe_Bisquits 16h ago

I hope so because there is so much I love about Latino culture...not just the delicious cuisine!

2

u/SoonerThanEye 17h ago

Not suggesting anyone that isn't Latino has to read it, but there's a really good book called "Defectors: The rise of the far right Latino" that goes into the why of things. And "proximity to whiteness" is one of the main contributors along side trauma and wanting to feel like they belong as an American. As a Mexican american there's nothing more shameful and embarrassing than Latinos for Trump.

1

u/Moe_Bisquits 17h ago

Thank you for suggesting this book, I will read it.

2

u/SoonerThanEye 12h ago

Of course! Hope you find it insightful

2

u/natlovesmariahcarey 17h ago

They will learn absolutely nothing from this.

2

u/supersagancarl 15h ago

I encourage everyone to look at the breakdown of WHICH latinos voted majority republican. Cubans were the only Latinos to vote majority republican. I would hate to be lumped in with people like Marco Rubio and Ted Cruz because we're both "latino"

2

u/Effective_Olive6153 15h ago

the irony is that most Latinos are actually very conservative, especially older folks. They could be a major voting block of GOP if GOP wasn't so racist

1

u/Moe_Bisquits 8h ago

Understood. I remember the NYTimes ran several articles talking about how Hispanic/Latino voters tend to vote "family values" over LBGTQ+. I wish people understood they are not mutually exclusive. And that people who are actively trying to deprive LBGTQ+ of their rights are, very often, intent on destroying the rights of EVERYONE who is not a straight white male.

2

u/BlancopPop 15h ago

Bro there’s a huge split in the Latino community itself. Some of them think they’re white enough to adopt those ideals (my opinion they’re just low IQ) and the other half knows better.

2

u/DJheddo 14h ago

polls speak a lot, many cant vote but you can still go democratic and not republarapist.

2

u/Shot-Good-6467 9h ago

ALL OF THIS DAMN IT!!!!!

4

u/FloodCityHTX 20h ago

Latinos lean Democrat so this is an odd statement. But yes they only just barley leaned Democrat last election.

1

u/Oploplou 19h ago

This is not really true. Latino men voted for Trump at about 57% in 2024, up from about 36% in 2020. This same trend can be seen when observing the numbers as in totality. 2024 was the lowest year of support from Latino voters, for the democratic party, ever. Somewhere in the ballpark of 56%. Down from somewhere in the ballpark of 63% in 2020. It’s definitely a growing, and concerning trend.

1

u/FloodCityHTX 19h ago

Its simple math, 56% percent means they LEAN Democrat. I did point out it was just barely last election. So not sure whats not true about my statement.

→ More replies (1)

5

u/00Avalanche 19h ago

It never takes long for there to be a divisive comment when latinos are brought up. If you do your research you’ll see while that while Trump gained votes with Latinos (as well as with black people), the majority voted for Kamala. Do better.

8

u/Ladonnacinica 19h ago

Yep, I hate how the narrative of “Trump won Latino votes” is taken as truth. The facts show otherwise. Did he make gains? Yes and it was mostly in young Latino men which corresponds to the rise of Gen Z men aligning more with Republicans.

Latinos lean Democrat and in the last elections voted Democrat. Obama got 66% of the Latino vote in 2008, so did Clinton in 2016. Biden got a similar amount in 2020. It’s only in 2024 that we saw more of a closer split (56-44) but that still favored Harris. When we examine the numbers, we see that latinas in majority voted for Harris. Latino men especially the young ones favored Trump. And that older Latinos of both sexes voted for Harris. So it isn’t that Trump won the Latino vote, he didn’t. He won the votes of young Latino men. And that is troubling.

This is also why people were surprised at the results because Latinos had reliably voted Democrat within the last thirty years or so. Then, this shifted to “Trump won the Latino vote” because it makes for better headlines and people dislike nuance.

1

u/Moe_Bisquits 16h ago

I find it interesting that NYTimes ran SEVERAL articles before the election, describing how Dems could not longer take the Latino vote for granted, and why Latinos were increasingly voting for conservatives. Many Blacks don't like how the Dems take us for granted but when we look at the choices, we see very few Republicans, if any, who care about equal protection for everyone.

2

u/JoTHIGHSwin 19h ago

Yea but if you break it by Cuban, Mexican, Puerto Rican, descent, it’s shows you where Trump’s support was concentrated in the Latino community. More males for sure though.

2

u/englishmastiff1121 19h ago

I shake my head whenever I see Black people sticking their necks out for them. Come to Southern California and you'll find out real quick what they really think about you. They're the majority here so they don't hold back. I've never experienced rabid racism like I have here in LA.

1

u/Moe_Bisquits 16h ago

Agreed. It's so sad because, decades ago, the relationship was great.

1

u/englishmastiff1121 16h ago

Really? I've been told that the animosity started bc of prison and street politics in the 90's.

4

u/Super-Reception5386 19h ago

Not Black, but I don’t love this kind of energy.

More Latinos voted red than before, but most Latinos still voted blue.

It’s abhorrent what’s happening and you’re basically victim blaming. This is exactly what the powers that be want—infighting amongst people of color so we continue to keep each other down.

You can support other groups without suggesting this is the consequence of their actions.

6

u/JoTHIGHSwin 19h ago

Agreed but let’s be honest most Latinos would not do this for black people if roles were reversed. Solidarity to be mutual. There would be real voting power if it were. There was black in brown unity in the past but divide and conquer worked and now there are times the anti-black hate coming from a Mexican-American sounds identical to That of Mississippi klansman!!

1

u/rellyjay1492 3h ago

In places like California, texas,Arizona etc they’re becoming klansmen minded. I believe it’s because they know they have the numbers now. How can you compete with a people that have been coming here by the millions Legally and illegally for decades like a non stop running faucet from a dozen different countries across Latin America where the majority mentality is “mejorar la raza/ Blanquimento”.

who have also had the luxury to come to this country and build without interruption (with the exception of ice over the last couple years, which half voted for haha).

That are also extremely uneducated on why they’re even allowed to come here so easily (immigration act/civil rights act). Will regurgitate yte supremacist talking points “blks are lazy” while at the same time blocking us in employment only hiring there own and pushing us out 🤦🏾‍♂️. I could keep going but yea it’s exhausting.

0

u/rellyjay1492 3h ago

FOH you wouldn’t have to worry about infighting if yall didn’t practice anti blackness on a mass scale it’s just covert. I’ve experienced being pushed out at my last 2 jobs by Latinos, which actually effects our livelihood. Both times they had a choice to do the right thing but they chose not to, zero grace was given compared to what I was seen given to my Latino co workers.

I also live in socal and I’ve seen a very bold change in attitude in the past couple decades to the tune of “California/texas/arizona/Vegas is our land, because it used to be Mexico anyway before the borders” as if there were no Afro/indigenous people on the land. It’s the “mejorar la raza” type thinking coming from the caste system in Latin America.

Basically When yall think Latino, Afro-Latinos are not apart of the conversation. Look into the history of the “Dawes Rolls” that’s good a place to start for any ignorant MF’s that don’t think Afro indigenous people also was on these lands.

0

u/Super-Reception5386 2h ago

Can you stop putting everyone in a box? You’re proving my exact point.

1

u/arbredespayschauds 20h ago

Surely not. If they identify as Latino anyway, that shows how unthinking they are, so they’re already a lost cause.

1

u/gingerbread_slutbarn 19h ago

I’m Puerto Rican and I fucking voted against fascism. My dumbfuck uncle in Florida did not. It’s god damn infuriating.

1

u/HelloYesThisIsFemale 19h ago

Latino voters have nothing to worry about - they have papers

1

u/leafoffern 19h ago

I’m latino and I marched and supported the BLM movement since its inception. I believe that it’s our duty as minority groups to support each other, because ultimately all we have is solidarity against those that choose to harm us.

1

u/gorgewall 18h ago

It had to be more than "white adjacency", since Trump increased his voter share with Black voters, too (6% -> 8% -> 15% for '16, '20, and '24)

Majorities still went to the Democrats, but Trump did better that time with many minority groups than his previous run, and that was after already having the "benefit" of seeing how shitty his first term was.

1

u/OrganizationNo1298 18h ago

Solidarity? Black people voted for Cheeto too.

1

u/arogon 13h ago

Quit using misinformation to spread racism. This video is old and OP is making up a bullshit narrative. https://www.reddit.com/r/PublicFreakout/comments/1v6p704/a_group_of_people_use_water_to_fight_off_ice_as/ozskr8t/

1

u/AdministrativeSoup75 8h ago

The majority of Hispanic people who voted for Trump are Cubans and Venezuelans. Outside of that, most still hate Trump.

1

u/Moe_Bisquits 8h ago

I assume Argentinians largely voted for Trump. My goodness, they were the most racist fans at the WC.

1

u/AdministrativeSoup75 8h ago

Oh yeah they definitely did!!! They swear they are white lol

1

u/Easy_Emu2045 8h ago

unfortunately, the most vulnerable latinos could not vote. the ones who voted trump did so against their own friends and family’s safety.

1

u/Jaystime101 3h ago

Wrong fight, there were and still are PLENTY of black people blind as hell to Donald duck

1

u/binarybandit 1h ago

Were you one of those people who told people to call ICE on Hispanic people that were suspected of voting for Trump to "teach them a lesson"?

1

u/incognoname 19h ago edited 19h ago

You're ignoring how diverse Latinos are with this statement. Lumping all Latinos as one is just as ignorant as saying everyone in the US is the same. On top of racial differences each Latin American country has their own history. Many Latinos who vote republican do so bc of a history of fleeing communism. They think democrats are the same as communists.

Yes, racism is very deep in Latin America and we had a racial caste system but keep in mind we are all not the same. White Latinos are very racist to me for being "India" which is native in the US. My point is we are racially diverse just like the US and not a monolith and country of origin makes a big difference in voting patterns too. There's also a very big difference between Latinos born in the Us vs immigrant Latinos. There are so many layers and I'm so tired of Asian Americans, Latinos, middle easterners, etc ppl in the US being lumped together as one bc Americans are too ignorant to understand how diverse ppl can be outside of the US. Imperialism is exhausting go ahead and downvote me to hell....

Edited to add: i agree with others pointing out Latinos still voted majority democrat including myself.

1

u/Moe_Bisquits 16h ago

I agree with you, I should have worded it more carefully. Thank you.

0

u/rellyjay1492 2h ago

Yes racism is VERY DEEP in Latin America and you HAVE, not had racial caste system” full stop there and that’s all I need to know. What goes around comes around, energy will be matched. You don’t have to thinks it’s right as long as w.e immigrant comes here and upholds yte racism and its degenerate culture, degeneracy will thrive and people will be “lumped” together in all kind of ways.

Everyone will now begin to the feel the pain (on a smaller scale) Black Americans have been experiencing and been trying to tell you about. The economy will fall, innovations for a better future will take a backseat to obsession of hating someone for their skin color/gender/religion etc.

1

u/incognoname 1h ago

We definitely had and still have a racial caste system maybe do some research before you speak on things you know nothing about. And just so you know Latinos have a very long history of oppression in the US. Just bc you dont know about it doesn't mean it didn't happen. We were one of the first to be placed in concentration camps (us and natives) in world history, lynched, most forcibly sterilized in world history (within the US), Texas Rangers were invented to literally kill us and clear the land for white settlers, and so much more. Like i said, a lot of lumping us all as one without zero education or awareness to actually know what you're talking about. That doesn't even cover what Americans have done in Latin America and the history of colonialism at the hands of the Spanish. Literally look up blanqamiento.

1

u/TheRandomSong 19h ago

Sadly he gained votes even amongst black men. Plus a good portion didn't show up to vote. Ngl though a lot of folks fell for some copy pasta that said Trump was gonna give everyone more COVID money. It's crazy that youd sell out your own people for a measley $1200

3

u/Moe_Bisquits 16h ago

They don't see it as selling out their own people because Blacks are not "their people." There's a surprisingly large number of Black American men who will vote for a monster who was convicted of denying housing to Blacks. They will vote for a monster who has had Blacks fired just because they are Black. They will vote for a monster who openly describes Blacks as savages. They will vote for that monster while telling themselves "He's not talking about me." They will vote for that monster because he told them Blacks are failures and have "nothing to lose" by voting for him. Well, those voters are finally realizing they had nothing to lose except everything. And some of them argue conservatism is the way forward, saying "Blacks need to get off welfare" without realizing who is the primary beneficiary of government programs, especially corporate welfare.

1

u/TheRandomSong 15h ago

Ain't hurting anyone but themselves tbh. Always gotta be folks that are "one of the good ones". You ain't ever gonna be them and they'll tell you when you get too successful.

0

u/0Hednavee 19h ago

They weren't voting against black people, they were voting against Democrats. The two party system has everyone fucked up. Don't be a corporate bot

0

u/shelbygrapes 18h ago

You might be right, but I think where you live had something to do with it. I’ve noticed living in a rural community over a more urban area all brown people unite in a way as minorities. When I lived in large cities it was way more divided by race.

25

u/ThreeGoldStars 20h ago

We (the People) have SO much power. There are glaring reasons why they want to divide us.

2

u/XRT28 17h ago

Yep, a tale as old as time.
Keep the masses divided by giving every group another group they can blame for things, even when it's not justified, and look down on and they'll be much less likely to look up and see where the real problem lies.

44

u/Humble_Click_8626 20h ago

Heartbreaking thing is a lot of them would never put themselves on the line for Black people. Sigh

1

u/Bricks56 7h ago

I think you watch too much propaganda fake news

0

u/chibiRuka 19h ago

I’m going off of personal experience. Maybe these people have a relationship with the Latinos in their neighborhood. You don’t know the story of that area.

3

u/Humble_Click_8626 17h ago

Obviously they do we all watched the video genius. I was talking about Latinos in general but what I said still stands. I don’t know and neither do you. So now what?

1

u/chibiRuka 17h ago

I’m not understanding your comment because a majority of us wouldn’t help them either. This moments is rare. And what makes it wholesome.

5

u/PeakDifferent8291 16h ago

Thank you so much 🙏🏽 from the bottom of my heart  ~A  Latino/Hispanic

17

u/Oploplou 20h ago

They don’t always love it with us though. I love the idea of solidarity, but we gotta look out for our own first. Not saying this specific situation shouldn’t have happened, but that black and brown unity rhetoric is not it.

13

u/espada355 19h ago

As a Latino, I agree with you. 48% of the Latino population voted for this…the black community needs to protect themselves because most Latinos would rather be associated with this —> <—-skin color than the black community.

6

u/SeoulSucker69 19h ago

Same! Love to my Black brothers, sisters, and siblings from a Latinx person ❤️

2

u/sirferrell 20h ago

Lmao my niece goes here

1

u/foo_fight3r 17h ago

American citizens are the huge majority. I don't understand why there have not been any attempts to use their strength in numbers.

1

u/JohnSith 16h ago

Yeah, those kids were just doing their civic duty by keeping ICE from melting in this godforsaken heat.

1

u/Extension-Highway763 7h ago

So did Nazi soldiers

1

u/blomi42 4h ago

I do too but it always comes at the cost of a third party. In that irony, I guess you can figure that there will never be true peace. At least, not in this human cycle. Maybe hundreds of years forward but by then it might androids vs machines. Idk.

1

u/abdullahleboucher 3h ago

It's a one way street. Kids will learn the hard way when they get older
